In simple terms, the $30billion reserve as at the end of last year was actually $17billion as the $13billion balance was actually a secret loan meant to beef up the reserve so as to be able to defend the Naira at the fixed exchange rate.

One thing is clear though, we can’t continue to fix the exchange rate. We just don’t have the foreign exchange to keep defending the Naira. The Naira must find its level going forward except we can find a way to earn more forex or spend less forex.

Again, this is another reason why we can’t return to the subsidy regime. In fact, Nigeria might collapse economically in the next 8 years if the reforms introduce by Tinubu are not fully implemented.

I really pity Tinubu and other policy makers who have to deal with this mess. It’s going to be a very rough and tough ride going forward.
First of all, I must congratulate you and your likes for the barefaced hypocrisy of "pitying" Tinubu and other policy makers. Instead of contrition and penance from your likes, what we get is a doubling down on beating the drum of support for misgovernance even when you can see the fruits of your earlier misadventure right before you.

Pre-2019, it was clear to the unselfish and the true patriots that Buhari had no business anymore with governance. I daresay, even to you and your fellow journeymen. But your endgame wouldn't let you see what was before you then.

The biggest damage done to our national economy occurred between 2019-2023 and who were those who ensured Buhari presided over the affairs of state in that period? You sir. Operation next level sent the country to the dungeon. It wouldn't have been possible if bullion vans had not nestled in a mansion in Ikoyi at the eve of that election.

So, the reason we can't return to subsidy regime is not because CBN borrowed. CBN borrowing is not a new thing. It is the reckless borrowing that's a dangerous thing. Goldman Sachs and JPMORGAN are both bankers to our CBN and a good portion of our reserves is banked with them. So your latter day alarmist stand is total nonsense. What you should be more concerned about is what this present govt will do to rejuvenate the economy because accept it or not, removing subsidy or devaluing naira will not shore up our reserves. Our reserves will continue to plummet as long as our economy is not producing any thing other than oil.

After the joyful announcement of 1trn savings in July, the reserves still tanked by a good number of millions of dollars. Not only that, CBN had resorted to defending the naira; same policy you just claimed was wrong under Buhari. No national govt leaves his currency to be beaten and battered by "market forces". It is the job of CBN to defend the naira. How it does it and to what end is the real point to look out for.

Finally, any time you feel the need to flog the past administration of Buhari, always remember to keep the thickest part of the horsewhip for yourself and your fellow hypocrites.

Thank you

Collapse in 8 years? You're spending all your revenue on debt servicing and you're still talking about collapse. How much more broke can you get?

As for Tinubu, I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He was smart enough to know what a disaster Buhari was going to be but he enabled him. Well BAT has inherited a mess. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.
