It is not a matter of tilumbu, ogbeni.
Nigeria is currently broke, the fight against bandits and boko haram has already drained enough of our resources both human, material and financial.
Imagine adding another drain to it?
A broke country like Nigeria shouldn't be doing things that won't benefit them materially, at least at this period.
This is my major reason.
2,the coup seems to have some level of acceptance by the citizens, why not allow them sort themselves out,or engage in long drawn negotiations with the junta first instead of jumping into a fight immediately?
Anyway, una no go ever see anything wrong cos you're already viewing it from the tribal prism.
May be you don't have knowledge of amount of money Nigeria govt committed to this Niger especially During Buhari. Leave story and ECOWAS nation's decide on it. The head of the junta betrayed the President all because the president was planning to remove him as the presidential guard commander. Even without attacking Niger d sanction alone drain starve them. Over thousands of trucks loaded with good couldn't cross to Niger due to border closure

It's ECOWAS no longer an economic community?
Why can't Tinubu and ECOWAS allow Nigeriens carry their cross?
Why cry more than the bereaved?

Unfortunately. Life doesn't go the way you want or think…This is not Tinubus war. He's only doing what is constituted in the Ecowas law….what any president would do.. Even you!

Tinubu is only the chairman of ECOWAS.

He can't take decision alone. You guys should let him carry his assignment as ECOWAS chairman.

Why the noise?

This is sanction not war.

Something is wrong with ECOWAS, how can they place sanctions on an already impoverished country just at your borders, if wave of migration begin to flood through those unprotected borders into your country can you manage it? You're perfectly aware how corrupt law enforcement is in this part of the world, they will take advantage of this border situation and start smuggling arms & people across this borders which will ultimately defeat the purpose. Moreso, what exactly do they want to achieve with all the sanctions & embargo? North Korea & Cuba have been sanctioned for more than 50yrs yet no change in leadership. Why do our leaders choose actions that goes against the interest of the entire region?

There has never been reaction like this to military coups in West Africa.
Tinubu’s desire to entrench himself as president of Nigeria is the reason for this reaction against Niger coupsts; Tinubu’s desire of use of ECOWAS force to outs the Niger coupists may cause million or more deaths in West Africa.

The useless heads of states of ECOWAS are afraid of what becomes of them if they didn't impose sanctions on Niger coup plotters/executioners and their supporters. This is the West African "Arab Spring" brewing.

Sorry o! ECOWAS that have been unable to stem the tide of incessant arms the so called jihadists have been using to wreck havoc in the block. As they stopped those trucks, trucks loaded with arms are still finding their ways to their desired destinations

Thislifesef:
it is True tribes in the majority are not happy with the minority being president, this has been ongoing before the coup, tribalism is rife in Africa and the same thing is currently happening in Togo.

That the people are happy with military takeover is inconsequential in ecowas intervention, because if you can justify Russia"s invasion of Ukraine just because they don't want an enemy"s foothold in their neighboring countries why do you think ecowas countries shouldn't also bother about the juntas in their neighborhood.

I am against military intervention by ecowas, though it is not wrong but I feel we have too much problems in our hands than sponsoring wars. But if we were stable enough economically I would have supported military intervention.

And lastly, if you believe the Niger people are happy with the juntas and should be left alone, don't you think they should be also be happy enough to sustain themselves?
This is your neighbors saying, "we are not comfortable with your choice of military rule but since you want to have military rule over you and you are happy about it, no problem, I can no longer trade freely with you, I can no longer bear the risk of an open border with you.
There is nothing wrong here.

Watch out for Togo, if ecowas doesn't handle these incessant military takeovers in West Africa I see Togo going the same way soon,i mean very soon.

Well said!

I like how well you articulated your points.

I still choose to differ on some points, however one major positive i got from this conversation is that I have finally seen someone with a different stance that I'd engage on this platform that doesn't resort to insults when a different opinion arises.

Please more of this!
