Congrats on your move!

By the way, let me give you a piece of my mind.

Firstly, you fumbled by belittling people's father land. What where you expecting the reaction to be? The torrents of backlash you got wasn't suprising to me. It's a natural reaction. You ain't the first to tread this route. We've seen many here, a classic example was a Nigerian student in Germany with the monicker ilovemunich. We knew how it ended.

I think you could take some humility (and even
communication skills) lessons from a great nairander who did his masters in France with the moniker mrphysics, man was damn wise and tactful. Emulate him!

Secondly, I would like to point out that though Chile is doing relatively well compared to its peers in South America, infact, few African countries could match it's quality of life,it's far from the Garden of Eden you are trying to make it seem. It's mired in constitutional crisis. Not to mention structural inequality.

I kid you not, the 2019-2020 national protests that rocked Chile were terrible and nearly plunged the country into anarchy. Followed the events and it's still fresh in my memory. I guess you would be shitting out your panties if fate got you trapped there then grin cheesy ( kidding)

Lastly, few here realized how brilliant your strategy is, I have seen many did the same and succeed , I hope you do too.

The moment I saw Chile , I presume it's a stepping stone to a final destination. Good luck.

Your head dey there. I also followed the protests as my research on south america started in 2020 and that's when my mind was made up. I love Nigeria and really wish it gets better but that appears to be a pipe dream as millions of Nigeria don't want Nigeria to get better at all. Imagine voting for a cocaine drug lord and expecting miracles.

An Adult made a decision to go to Chile,Some Adults in other countries want to crucify him or just to show that they are Resident in better country and some other Adult still stuck in Nigeria are still crucifying him when some are not even sure they will step outside Nigeria the way the exchange rate keeps soaring up. For the Adults in other better country as they believe why don't you bring the OP to where you are living when he was still struggling in Nigeria? Let allow the man to rest and share his experience peace please,if you have suggestion to make Chile pleasant for him tell him and not all this unnecessary bashing.

To be fair, they have the right to oppose his choice of Chile. However, they should not lie about it. That has been my stance. It is unrealistic to expect everyone to support or like a decision you made. However, they should bring superior reasons for opposing it rather than lying.

I outlined how to get a visa and I think I spoke about costs in the earlier threads. Budget 10 million for everything.

I met a Brazilian and a Venezuelan and asked them about Chile when OP was processing his visa.

They both said Chileans rarely emigrate because they are rich. The Venezuelan girl accused Chileans of being too proud. The Brazilian lad said Chileans rarely associate with other South Americans because they are rich, and even when they emigrate to nearby countries, they move to Argentina and Uruguay. And once they finish what they do, they move back to Chile. He rarely sees Chileans whereas he sees Venezuelans daily. These are fellow South Americans who know better than anyone else on this thread, share the same cultural and racial ties.

Chile is wealthier than Nigeria, even omitting GDP per capita. Nigeria, not Chile, has the highest number of poor people in the world. If you claim it is because of population, Brazil does not have the highest number of poor people in South America.

https://www.statista.com/statistics/1287649/poverty-rate-latin-america/

The dude and I went out for lunch earlier today. I got to ask him a series of questions about South America.

- Chile is wealthier and has the highest living standards in the region. But he believes Brazil has more economic opportunities due to the size of the economy. Let's not forget that someone commented on another thread saying "Botswana has more economic opportunities than Brazil. Thus, Botswana is better for a migrant from West Africa than Brazil".
- Chile is way safer. No questions about it.
- Chileans rarely mix up with other South Americans except Argentines and Uruguyanas. If a Chilean is to emigrate for work purposes, s/he is off to the US, Europe, Japan or Australia. The same applies to middle-class Brazilians.
- Chile does not receive much illegal migration due to the Andes mountain range and harsh desert climatic conditions. However, due to the deterioration of the Venezuelan economy, many moved to Chile. But Chilean authorities have stopped the movement and changed her visa policies for Venezuelans.
- Education is expensive in Chile, free in Argentina and Brazil. But Brazil has a national exam every applicant must take to be admitted.
- Uruguay is also prosperous since the population is smaller, ditto land mass. Uruguay has less influence in the region. They export a lot of agricultural products to Europe and China.
- Due to colonialism which made South American societies to be unequal in wealth distribution. Many politicians promote socialism and leftist economic policies as ways to solve the problem. However, in the long run, things tend to be worse. He believes the inequality in the region can only be solved through a "China-style" government where one party holds power for at least 50 years and solves the problems head-on using different ways.
- Argentina's economic problems are beyond his thought process. However, Argentines rarely emigrate illegally.
- Peru, Ecuador and Colombia have gang problems due to drug trafficking.
- Paraguay is not actually bad as I thought, but Bolivia is terrible.

Due to ancestry relations, he got naturalised as an Italian and even voted in the national election. But if he ever moves to Europe, he won't go to Italy since it is much poorer. Either Switzerland or Germany. On the other hand, no educated Brazilian or Chilean goes to Spain and Portugal because the employment opportunities are extremely lower. Rather, Spaniards and Portuguese move to Brazil and Chile for employment opportunities.
