I think the people in Government are not just ready to fight corruption yet. Maybe because they are benefiting from it. The oil imports and this dollars rate is one of the biggest factors affecting the economy of this country

Exactly!
They have left the major, they are looking for the alternatives or just temporary mopped up solution.
No agenda to fix refinery whatsoever. Dangote is the monarch of Nigeria.

My dear LoopHoles plenty.

Have often questioned why those who want to go on Pilgrimage / Mecca would have to get FX much cheaper than the average man doing business ?

Why don't they give FX at same rate to people of other RELIGION ?

I don't even want to get started about the things done by BANKs.

Over 80% of Us are way more corrupt than those we criticise. Na just opportunity we never get. As for less than the remaining 5%, they are Corrupt or Honest based on weather (i.e they would temporarily cut corners when in Need, else act normal). AnyOne else outside the above stated percentage, is regared as M-U-M-U.

That's the WORLD we've found ourselves

I think people going out for school too should or relocating abroad FG should stop giving them FX they should go sort themselves out at least they're doing it for there own future....

They should give out the FX to only people with business purpose....

Make others go sort themselves out....

The banks have a major fault here, not the FG as it seems. Nigeria is not a normal place and normal laws and economics don't work here like other places. Banks try to make dollars scarce to the people and make it available to their customer BDCs. The round tripping needs to be arrested.
The problem is that Nigerians need high handedness, and any high handedness employed by the government will meet with backlash.

By deliberately referring customers making FX withdrawal to Aboki's, who loiter the banking halls.

Which banks do that?

How does the bank make it's gain from such an arrangement?

most Banks are not buying.

Each time I go to withdraw in Fidelity, I always asked if they are buying but they will say no. So what do you expect?

Even most bank staffs are working with the Abokis.

We the masses are our problems Bankers(Masses) sell to Aboki (masses), Aboki sells at a high rate to buyers(masses),
Then the buyers hoard the USD for no reason and sell it back to Aboki at another high price. Most Nigerians are corrupt. The FG & CBN should stop funding BTA, PTA, and school fees payments but they won't bcs their children school abroad. Nigeria needs a strict hand, PBAT should take the bold step and suspend the activities of BDC and all this funding. Anybody that wants to japa should work for his/her dollars. USD should only be strictly available for the legitimate importation of commodities undecided
CBN have suspended BDC operations since the time of Buhari na. Don't you guys listen to news?

Most of you guys on nairaland are dullard who only talk about solutions to an economic problem without knowing anything about the economy itself.
They have suspended BDC operations for over 2years and that is the result of what we are suffering right now

A way has to be found by the Central Banks and international financial bodies to deal with those speculating on Tether [USDT] to distort the financial markets. How can people be using USDT to speculate in the blackmarkets? Enough of the greed! Confidence has to be given too to folks to be contented with the normal exchange rates and put their funds in fiat USD domiciliary accounts.

USDT and other so-called stablecoins/cryptos are NOT safe long-term. The founders of USDT have been indicted in financial infractions more than once in the past so those people who are busy gloating that the Naira to fiat USD is crashing should take note. The U.S. financial regulatory authorities and others in the West are NOT comfortable with these stablecoins that can easily go south AND PEOPLE WILL LOSE ALL THIER MONEY.

Well said!

I also just mentioned the same thing above about this USDT thing. It is a so-called stablecoin that the creators have been fingered in financial infractions in the past and have been investigated by the U.S. regulatory authorities. There is absolutely NO basis for the use of Tether to determine the exchange rate of a country tbh.

People should be made to exchange their hard currencies at fair exchange rates in the banks so that arbitraging will stop!

Verbal intervention will not work. The fundamentals are weak. The best he can get is a knee-jerk reaction that will be short-lived. Investors and speculators are paying more attention than he would admit. Naira is heading to abyss. Any appreciation in naira against US$ is an opportunity for people to hedge into dollars. They thought "Consumption to Production" is a joke. Reality is gradually taking over.

How do the banks make dollars scarce and make it available to their customer BDCs?

Are you a witness to such?

Do you have proof against such? Banks make it almost impossible for the people to withdraw forex. They also encourage you to go to BDCs, an there's usually some BDC guys/girls close by in the banking hall that they refer people to.

I thought Tinubus new forex policy was supposed to take care of all these?

Having same forex rates in the country is not Tinubu's forex policy, it is the normal thing all over the world. Like i said, Nigerians are not normal.

How is it now different from the previous forex regime?

The difference is that the Naira is been FLOATED, not "defended". That is the normal thing in most economies around the world. The governments don't "defend" their currency and run different rates that encourage round tripping. Forex rates are normally determined by market forces of supply and demand. Other factors are Inflation, Interest rates, political stability, confidence and speculation. In Nigeria, it is more of greedy speculation. Just to make gain at the detriment of others, BDCs continue to raise the price to maintain parallel market and the huge gains they have been enjoying. Even Ukraine and countries hit by war and disasters don't trade that way.

If Nigerians need high-handedness, what does the govt need? Pampering?

Hopefully, the FG should be strict against this sabotage no matter the outcry. That's one of the problem with democracy though, but we go manage am and overcome by God's grace.
You seem to lack the basic knowledge of what law and order entails. Go to your state governor's office to sow him some high handedness since you seem incapable of thinking.
