He's being groomed as the next governor of Ekiti probably after BAO.

That's all they care about not Nigeria or the effectiveness of the ministry bt his next appointment after destroying the economy further with nepotism.

Solid minerals ministry should go to a geologist or science and engineering background.

This temporary government has nothing to offer.

I believe ministerial position requires more of administrative skills rather than technical skills. One of best Nigerian petroleum ministers, Tam David West, was a virologist.

That clown who said Buhari would make petrol to be sold at N40 per litre? shocked grin

Solid minerals such as cobalt, lithium, copper & graphite are expected to fetch a fortune in the next decade. China is currently exploring the opportunity to acquire assets in this area to support the global demand to produce EV batteries and they are known to give a lot of egunje in hard currency. This is why Alake requested this portfolio from the drug baron as against his core competency of information ministry.

With the exception of attorney general, the only requirement for ANY ministerial portfolio is intelligence and patriotism. A lake is clearly a very intelligent man.
Really? Why don't we make a doctor minister for finance then and make a botanist minister for health?

When you know there are lots of mineral resources in the country, you need someone you trust to ....... Anybody can post update online but not everyone is trusted to.....

Brilliant choice! Solid minerals and mining is the most underrated now in Nigeria and you need a PR strategist like Mr Alake to help position it in the frontier. It's really brilliant! God bless Asiwaju Tinubu and his team. God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs!

Even Kayode Fayemi who is a global propagandist failed as a Solid Minerals minister under Buhari.

It takes being rooted in geology or some engineering related fields to understand the technical aspects of solid minerals affairs.

A simple visit to Ajaokuta Steel and mills will make you weep for this country.

For me, I've always said the ministry of solid minerals in Nigeria should be the third strongest ministry in Nigeria, but reverse has been the case,
Nassarawa
Zamfara
Niger
Kogi
Kwara
Kaduna etc all have mass deposit of solid minerals, but we hear little about the exploration and exportation of theses minerals... rather, this solid minerals are personalised... back then, in one of the above mentioned states, Chinese minerals were brought into the state to mineral Gold specifically for some Alhajis and politicians in the state.

How do we get foreign revenue into the country? Crude oil won't do the magic alone.

Germany
South Korea are not naturally endowed, yet they are placed high in global markets and economic index rankings.

I want to see his work in Zamfara state where few people are dominating the Gold resources in the state. I don't know what the federal govt is doing and allow just a few people to make money in gold. I believe if the federal government can take over the gold resources in the state, the atrocity of the bandit will reduce in the state
his work there is to join in the loot also.

solid minerals especiallly in the north are not being accounted for and even the chinese are having a field day.

so its actually a juicy opportunity for him

You're just butressing my point with your example. A school teacher as minister of finance. Adamu Adamu spent eight years as education minister and ended up apologising for wasting the nation's time. Are you drunk? How was Alake Special Adviser to Tinubu from 1999 to 2007?
MrTed:
Dele Alake is a Nigerian journalist, media consultant, and politician. He was the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu from 1999 to 2007. He is also the publisher of TheNews magazine.

His appointment as Minister of Solid Minerals Development is a surprise to many, as he is not known to have any experience in the mining sector. However, he is a seasoned media professional with a strong track record of communication and public relations. He is also known for his political savvy and his ability to build relationships.

It is too early to say how Alake will perform in his new role. However, he has the potential to be a successful minister if he is able to leverage his skills and experience to promote the development of the solid minerals sector in Nigeria.

Here are some of the pros and cons of Alake's appointment as Minister of Solid Minerals Development:

Pros:

* He is a seasoned media professional with a strong track record of communication and public relations.
* He is known for his political savvy and his ability to build relationships.
* He is a close ally of President Tinubu, which could give him some political capital.

Cons:

* He does not have any experience in the mining sector.
* The solid minerals sector is a complex and challenging one.
* He may face resistance from vested interests in the sector.

Overall, Alake's appointment as Minister of Solid Minerals Development is a mixed bag. He has the potential to be a successful minister, but he will need to overcome some challenges in order to do so.

He will use his expertise as a journalist to sell to investors and international community, the solid mineral sector.
I think it's a good one

Go back now and ruminate on who is daft between you and I

We also had Nnaji and Babalola who were renowned experts in power, how did that go?

Like I said you are daft. I should also add that you are ignorant and uninformed. With the exception of attorney general, a minister is a political post, all that is required is intelligence and patriotism. Anyone with those skills can handle ANY ministry except justice.

In the countries we copy, the Secretaries of State or ministers have no professional affiliation to the ministries they are assigned. The role of a minister is simply one of a manager. The reason why we fail in Nigeria and look to the professional leanings of the minister is because we had emergency governments in the past without an articulated, thought out manifesto, development plan or policy. When a government has a policy document, as is the case with serious governments, the activities of government are dictated by the policy not the minister.

Please educated yourself.

I suggest you research past and present ministers in the US and Uk to compare their professional qualifications with that of their ministries. I also suggest you research past Nigerian ministers and their portfolios at the time when Nigeria had national development plans. You will find that when we had national development plans the national development plan dictated the direction of the ministry not the minister. The problem is we have not had governments with policy documents or national plans for a while hence our focus on “technocrat ministers” to save the day.

If a government already has a plan to build 6000km of roads, increase power to 20GW, reduce unemployment to 10% in 4 years, increase the number of graduate doctors engineers and teachers to X, increase no of hospitals to X per 1000 people for example, you don’t need technocrats as ministers to implement, what you need are people capable of managing and achieving the stated goals. All the technocrats you need are in the ministries or as special advisers.

Like I said educate yourself and deliver your self from your ignorance and backwardness.

For every Fafunwa you give I will mention 10 Nanjis that failed woefully and equally10 ministers under Balewa, Gowon or Shagari whose ministries performed well under a clearly articulated national development plans.

The job of a minister is to implement the plan that has already been clearly articulated by the government not to alter the plan of the government or do his own thing.

The time for technocrats is in the policy formulation stages not implementation. A special adviser is more Important than a minister but ignorance will not allow you to see road. The special adviser is THE technocrat!!!!! The special Adviser is the one the president appoints of his own free will without political interference, the SA is the one the president listens to and many times the SA can be more influential than the minister.

Finally, was Amaechi who was the best minister under Buhari a railway engineer? Was Kyari who negotiated the Siemens deal the minister of power….did we not have a minister of power? Was Fashola a civil engineer? Is NOI a trained economist? Is Christine laggard the head of the ECB an economist or a banker? Stop thinking and talking like ignoramuses.

The history of Nigeria is that technocrats tend to fail in political office and are best in back office roles like SA.

No one has a monopoly of wisdom.
I believe that he can do well. He is one man that is very close to the president and must have known in advance. In other words, he must have been told what is expected of him.
