I have seen pple say rubbish and unreasonable things with confidence. And the were perceived as intelligent or good because the said something. One thing about introvert is we don't speak if we don't have reasonable things to say. We even find it difficult to say out reasonable things we have in mind becos we fear that we might make mistakes or get rejected. Just do wat u have to do regardless, it's ok to be anxious cos even some of the staff audience can't even be free being in that same shoes.

You still have a chance, so need to panic. I always tell myself that there are alot of private schools even if this reject me, I move.

Now the main thing:

(1) Gather your neighbour's children or siblings and start micro teaching with them.

(2) The lesson should be student centered.i.e allow them to speak by asking question about the topic b4 giving your own definition or explanations.

(3) Start from the known to unknown ( from simple concept/things found in the environment to complex).

(4) Choose a topic and prepare thoroughly.

(5) In the course of teaching if students (staff ask a question on areas yet to cover/out of scope - assume they are students) politely tell him/her I'm coming to that area or its out scope. Some times they want to see how you will handle those exceptional students.

In my opinion, micro-teaching is all about assessing classroom/time management, clearly and orderly presentation of knowledge/idea and composure. Not a place for in- dept knowledge assessment.

The school would have given you written test to assess your knowledge before this time. Some teachers & busy body....

I guess you applied to teach Chemistry or Basic Science, since you choose "Matter"

I'm introverted but teaching has exposed me, and now people see me differently.

Parents look forward to meet me (because there children they talk plenty things about me).

Good luck.

U can't face an audience and u applied for teaching of all jobs?

Introvert doesn't necessarily mean that u are not smart or bold

It just means u prefer to stay indoors

That word is the most abused

I get your point that introverts aren't necessarily timid, but introversion also doesn't mean preferring to stay indoors. Even that would be an abuse of the word. An introvert is a person who prefers to focus on thier inner thoughts rather than interact with people or engage in social activities. They either prefer to be alone or spend time with one or two people so as to reduce external activities. While some may prefer to be indoors, an introvert could also like the beach, cinema, parks, libraries, bookstores, coffee shops, etc. provided they're either alone or with a few people. Likewise, an extrovert could like staying indoors for some reasons provided his legion of friends are always there to party with him. So in summary, the indoors and outdoors can be enjoyable to both introverts and extroverts. It's less about the location, and more about the surrounding.

You are right

I was an introvert, I spend most time indoors

I also prefer being alone

Do you know I once went to a waterfall all alone? Nobody else in sight

I enjoyed myself thoroughly, something some other people can't even dream of lol

My previous post about a big school that called me for an Interview, Well I actually went there, did my test and when I was asked to come in for Micro Teaching where I was faced with Staff of the school and maybe the principal, I flopped and panicked heavily.

The fear was well written all over my face and I was just saying rubbish despite choosing to teach "Matter" as my topic. Immediately I came in and they asked for my name and few other questions before the micro teaching, my voice was already shaking as if I have never taught before in my life(they noticed and told me to calm down).

Although I am an introvert, I hardly face audience talk more of strangers and the quest to ensure that I performed, those things enveloped/swallowed me completely. I have never taught in such a big school before, I think my qualification was what made them approach me in the first place.

One of the staff kept throwing questions at me, I mean confusing questions just to know my depth of knowledge in the particular topic, and guess what? I flopped totally and became disorganized. But luckily, there was a man among the panel who gave me the option of coming back and prove myself that I am a qualified teacher as stated in my CV or I should take another topic I'm more comfortable with. So, I opted to leave and come back so I can regain my confidence.

Now, I have been given enough time to go and make research and convince them on Monday.
How do I conquer that fear and what are the things they look so I can prepare hard.
Thank you.
The truth is... it is normal to be unsettled a little in the presence of a crowd, but you must promise yourself not to lose your composure, you must prove your point. At least, everyone in that room also panicked at some point in the past too. So be calm always, speak slowly and take your time before you speak to compose yourself. See the audience as your students, "never see them as people who know more than you" and try to teach them. I experienced this while I was doing NYSC but now I have made presentations on behalf of my company at different programs.
So you can do it.
You will be just fine.

You are lucky they asked u to choose a topic which most schools will do. Use 15mins to prepare lesson note. Take the lesson note inside, use the board well by writing subjects, topic, date etc. Make sure u rule the board. As u teach move round the class. Don't just stay in a spot. Ask them questions and engage the panel but control them so it's not rowdy. They never born any one not to employ you. I have even gone to a micro teaching that they will give u topic to teach impromptu and I go still dust am. Me way de present seminar within a day and everyone must applaud. Micro teaching is the least of my worries but salary. Teaching is easy for me but the salary is the koko. A particular year I had 4offers and hard to go with highest and flexible bidder. I do go one school way after my micro teaching, they sack the subject teacher because they saw that I was so good.
Matter is a very simple topic to teach from basic science or chemistry point of view. U Don go school way they give u kirchoff application to current electricity. Some school yawere gan. Their teacher see u as competitors. I went to a school for micro teaching and they told me to solve questions on latent heat. The physics teacher solve the question tire e no get am, e con give me for micro teaching. I solve am and he applauded me and was sacked next day

I myself was also preparing for a teaching interview too and that's my first time, so I went through the comments, saw so many insights and I took points and went to the interview on Saturday and made it.
So it was his thread that helped me passed the interview and succeeded in the micro teaching.
So today they called me and told me I've been offered and employment as a Subject Teacher

I don't want to teach again.. I realized I didn't flop at first, they didn't just low me calm my nerves and I don't want to teach again forever, only if I later own a school.

I was already flowing today with the students and even the students cannot tell me what chemistry is all about, they hardly could answer a question I asked. But there were two staff there who kept throwing questions at me, at least u let me flow first and settle myself.

He asked d first question, I answered it and even explained it, then in few minutes he threw another question, and another and trying to confuse me.
At some point I forgot the answer to his question and it wasn't like I don't know it. Next thing, in the front of the students I wasn't even allowed to take the topic I prepared for, I was still making revision when I noticed that they weren't responding to my questions just to pick them up.

Immediately they asked me to switch to Mathematics, and teach offhand like tf? I don't even know mathematics that much, and even if I'll teach it, it'll be with a lesson note or textbook to flow well.
One was asking me to take simultaneous offhand and I just told him, where should I get the question ? Cz I am not a math teacher.

When I noticed that the staff were already leaving I just carry myself and left jeje.

Afterall I can succeed without having to teach with their meagre salary. It might be a big school and they still wouldn't pay well.
I'm actually done.

I had once gone for an interview like this in a school when I was job hunting. Tho I had no experience with teaching. I was faced with micro teaching all of a sudden, as I studied Bsc computer sci I chose to teach computer components. I was nervous but had to hold it and still said reasonable things to them and the commend me for my performance. I didn't get d job cos I didn't do education and had no teaching experience and it's a big school with good pay.
Even currently where I work as a jnr IT officer, am to report to mgt during IT committee meetings. It also feel nervous but I still don't have to shy away from it. Just do it anyway with your best.
We all feel nervous during interview not becos we are unintelligent. It becos we are facing uncertainties and fear of not performing or flopping. U re not alone, do it with ur best and prepared.
Why would they deny you a job all because you didn't study education? Maybe the teaching experience you lacked but you should have lied that you have at least a one year teaching experience.

I studied computer science as well but I just got a job as a computer teacher in an average school but I had to lie that I had a 2 year's experience teaching computer in an imaginary school grin
Las Las I got the job cool

I completely understand the feeling. In fact, I replied that message because of my own personal experiences. During the summer, I like spending my evenings watching birds at the park or taking a walk near the waterfront while others are out partying. I'm not shy/timid, but I easily feel crowded. I just don't like people drowning my thoughts.

Judging by the subjects they want you to teach, I can say that they are keen on cutting cost. You may be selected since you obliged on being able to teach these subjects. I just hope they don't overwork you and underpay you. You should have asked further if you would teach each of these subjects at all levels ( jss1 to ss3) or just a level. Either way, I wish you the best!

That's hard, but why would a big school pay 20K! Thats ridiculous. I will suggest that you learn something, or if you already learn, you can ask family members to raise something for you to start a business.
I used to have my own business as a graphics designer and I tell you brow, 20k is what I make in a week or even lesser.
If you would be interested in framings, throw pillows, sublimation, borderless printings, I can teach you this things free here on Nairaland.
