The physical fitness state of the Nigerian army is very deplorable. At the depot or NDA stage, most soldiers are trim and fit. But once they pass out, that's where the ballooning era commences. The directorate of physical training (DAPT) needs to work out a training regimen and weight standard for the officers to adhere to. This should form a major part of their evaluation, before being considered for promotion. Once you see an officer reach the rank of Captain, you can't help but notice the protruding potbelly and fat cheeks.
