I think the board wanted him but since they needed (or were desperate for) Ten Haag more and Ten Haag doesn't Ragnick, I think that's what resulted to their decision

No they didn't. I know what the conversation was in certain quarters before ETH was appointed. Mark Goldbridge did one morning show and ranted about leaks Rangnick would be let go at the end of the season. This was before ETH was even appointed o.

He was always going to be let go. Man was consistently ranting about a total overhaul. United fans foolishly didn't like him because of his performance as an interim manager.
