so what has stopped Nigeria from achieving this fit

Lack of funding. The space agency currently uses half its govt allocation to pay salaries.

If they are funded properly, they can do it.

We just lack the will, for now.

India got independence in 1947, so they are a bit ahead of us in terms of technology, hence their recent moon landing.

But we are catching up.

Most importantly, we have the manpower to pull this off.

We have capable Nigerian scientists at the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Abuja, and also numerous Nigerian scientists working at various space agencies all over the world, including NASA.

Nigerian scientists have built satellites which have been launched into space, and are currently hovering the Earth in outer space.

Fully designed and built by Nigerians.

''NASRDA has, over the years, shown a pivotal role in its deployment of expertise in the design, building and launch of Nigerian satellites. These include NigeriaSat -1, NigeriaSat–2, NigComSat-1R and most importantly, the NigeriaSat-X, which was designed and built to flight standard by Nigerian engineers and scientists.''

So Nigeria is a notable player in the Space Industry.

Certainly right up there among the African nations.

We must take the next leap, and PUT A NIGERIAN ON THE MOON.

Space Launch. Oct 1st 2037, Abuja Nigeria

You are dreaming.

African writing systems are numerous, and include the Hieroglyphs, the Nubian Script, also known as the Meroitic Script, Nsibidi Script, Ajami Script, Ethiopic Script, and many others.

The Europeans actually started by enslaving Indians. They proved unprofitable as they lacked the mental resilience and physical strength required. Then they switched to Africans.

But that history should not prevent us from progress.

All irrelevant.

India’s space program started decades ago when mass poverty was rife.

Stop using that as an excuse. That moon landing cost them 74 million dollars.

Is that not chicken change for one politician to pocket and clean mouth?

Insibidi and most of the rest that were discovered to be writing form was through archeological expeditions grin

Not here to contest our glorious past with you, but who are those using African writing systems today and how relevant is it to our day to day education? The ancient Ayurveda writings are in writing forms and many all over the world still get natural health benefits from it.

Do you even know when TATA was established or India policy on imported vehicles. When was our first local car manufacturing company established?

Growing up I saw blacksmiths casting cutlasses, knives, hoes and the rest. Where are they today?Generation of indian families have grown that inherited family crafts to million dollar businesses. All because they are guided by the writings of their forefathers

Chinese and India slavery to the west did not last 20 years before it was abandoned. Ours thrive for over 500 years.

No thanks to slavery, whatever glory we had was in the past. I am yet to see present day relevance of those archeological findings to our development. If you can point how useful it is to me as an average Nigerian let me know.

India past is documented and they get to read and improve on it.

Not true.

This nostalgia we always have about the past must end.

In the past, we had bloody military coups, leaders assassinated, and civil wars that cost millions of lives.

Back in the past Lagosians we’re fighting to jump on MOLUE.

Back in the past there was no phone, except for the super rich.

Back in the past, cities like Uyo, Awka, Asaba, and Abuja were mere villages.

Go to some of those places today and you will think you’re in London.

We have progressed.

Such mishaps are natural when you are venturing into the space as a developing space power. That’s how you learn.

Do you know how many Indian missions have failed prior to this success they achieved?

Ok, what is the current state of things like, employment, food prices, petrol, cooking gas, diesel, dollar rate, security and general wellbeing of the nigerian masses. Are these things I mentioned better now than they were in the past?

Bro, there’s never been a time things were ‘good’ for everyone in Nigeria.

Even in the 1980s people were complaining about inflation, NEPA, armed robbery, army brutality etc.

Fela was popular for a reason.

In many ways things have improved. Health care and sanitation have improved. Infant mortality rate has fallen steadily. GDP per capita has increased. Military boys have been pacified.

Telecommunications are top notch today. In the 80s, phones were for the super rich.

Daily Hustle: You would fight to get into a Molue (49 sitting 99 standing) and when you reach your destination, the person you went to see, they will tell you he has traveled.

Back into the Molue. A whole day gone, cos you’re stuck in traffic to and fro.

Today, you simply text the guy to see where he is, or simply call him, to talk business.

You people are just enjoying today but you don’t know.

Nigeria’s GDP is 1.15 TRILLION DOLLARS calculated by Purchasing Power Parity (PPP).

It is proportionally higher than India’s, considering they have a 1.4 billion population, more than all Africa (1.2 billion).

So money is not the issue.

And India has not “fixed basic infrastructure”.

Go on Google Earth and view their cities.

They just look like Naija.

Truth is it will take DECADES to “fix basic infrastructure” in Nigeria, even if we are ruled by saints.

220 million population is no joke. A LOT still needs to be built.

We cannot be waiting to complete the task of development while the world leaves us behind in TECHNOLOGY.

India understood this.

So should we.

PPP is only relevant to the domestic economy not internationally. Nigeria can’t even take care of the population or give basic amenities. Africa is a joke 😂😂

Absolute nonsense.

If India had waited to fix all their roads and power supply issues, they would not have achieved the moon landing.

Development is not linear.

You must simultaneously build your infrastructure and your technological capacity.

It is VILLAGE MENTALITY that says “let us fix A and B before we can do C.”

Development may not be linear. But you still obviously need the basics.

India’s Development is nowhere as bad as Nigeria. Just compare the HDI

Nigeria HDI-0.531

India HDI-0.633 HDI

Putting African and Asian countries on the same sentence when it comes to development is bizzare.

It’s like when you want to build a house. First thing you need to put in place is the foundation. You need a pretty solid foundation to start a home to prevent things like leakages, circuit problems and all that. With India, They can get the basics right to a certain extent. They have a solid foundation. In Nigeria, The foundation is virtually non-existent. NOTHING IN NIGERIA works.

Legal System doesn’t work

Epileptic power supply or none at all

Dilipadited or no infrastructure at all

Poor roads or none at all

There is no piped water system in Nigeria

Open Sewage

It’s an endless list of all the problems in Nigeria. If I had to post all of them. Nairaland servers would crash 😂

Nigeria and Africa in general is the biggest joke of the century. When I was last in Nigeria, I was leaving the airport at a terminal that was recently built by the Chinese not even Nigerians. Yet the country has somehow managed to Bleep it up. The lifts weren’t working and some of the escalators weren’t either.

What makes you think it can’t be done?

India has the same developmental issues as Nigeria. They have bad roads and power cuts in India. Plus corruption.

But they still have that passion for technology.

That moon landing cost them just 74 million dollars.

It was done on the cheap, compared to the multi billion dollar US missions.

We don’t have to break the bank for this!

India got independence in 1947, so they are a bit ahead of us in terms of technology, hence their recent moon landing.
What has the date you got independence have to do with development?? Did Black South Africans not get independence in 1990s, but are still a million miles ahead of us who got ours in 1960? Or were you told the European colonialists prevent the countries they're overlording from developing while they are there?? See what UK did in Hong Kong that they handed over in 1999 - they turned it to a world financial centre.
