Meaning as top goalscorer player in top 5 league in Europe will not be nominated, right?

Oga Yekini had the best season of his career in Europe within the period George Weah won the Balon D'or so that excuse is dead on arrival.

Where was he when George Weah won it in 1995? He was in his prime then, and couldn't even smell a nomination.

1995, Yekini, prime in Switzerland league at 33 years old? Okay. I understand.

Bros you are disrespecting Osimhen by constantly spelling his name wrong! Abeg take time to learn the correct spelling. Thank you.

Marjoribanks:
My point remains! They should stop disrespecting Oshimen cos their legend Yekini did not do much! Simple!

You are looking for the easy way out, hence resorted to distorting fact deliberately. Yekini's best was in Setubal where he scored 91 goals in 114games from 90-94, then in 95, Weah got crowned for his cumulative effort between 94 and 95. If Yekini was good enough, he would have at least gotten a nomination. He went to Zurich in 97 where he scored 14 in 28 matches.

Within which period? Was it opened to non European in 1993/1994 season?

Do you think Rick that scored 30 goals before it was opened in 1995 to non European wouldn't have been nominated as at 1992? grin

Nothing like excuse. It common sense that they weren't nominated because it wasn't opened to them as at the time they ruled a league.

Was the award opened to non European as at the time he scored those goals?

Was he still playing top flight football as at 33 years old? Zurich is top league in your eyes? grin

Because it wasn't open to none European until 1995.

It's just common sense. Even George Weah was never nominated until 1995 despite his previous achievements.

Nerdie returns on page 15,000.

Iconic. 🤗💥💥

Meliforme... thanks so much for your short yet beautiful analysis on the game. It was only yours that truly captured how we really played and approached the tie vs Sao Tome. It was indeed a 4-4-2 or let me say in its truest essence, a 4-2-2-2 approach because Lookman and Iheanacho operated more as false wingers and attacking midfielders through the half spaces.

Yes, It is Sao Tome... we were expected to win no doubt. So we should not scream "Eureka" because of the result. Like Joebie said, we beat Sao Tome 10-0 and felt on top until Algeria and co brought us back to reality.

But the difference this time lies in the personnel coming through for us and in how we moved forward in attack.

Ndidi's forward plays, Boniface's easy-on-the-eyes understanding of the withdrawn striker role (#cool. Iheanacho's false winger role from the right half space/right channel... Bruno Onyemaechi's understanding on the overlap and underlay... Lookman's inside forward swagger... Osimhen's dominant box performance and ability to shift outwide to accommodate a fellow CF in the middle and Chukwueze's hybrid role as a half space operator and true wing force.

The midfield still needs a few tweaks and the defence isn't there yet especially centrally but the Fullbacks options has fine depth now.

LB - Zaidu, Bruno, Collins and/or Bassey

RB - Aina, Osayi-Samuel, Ebuehi

JPes gotta just get the CB pair right and finally get the midfield balance that will instantly make the Super Eagles true Afcon Favorites.

Time will tell.

Appreciate the welcome.

Right now, based on JPes' selections ONLY (meaning players Jpes has invited/capped since his tenure started), it has to be Onyedika-Ndidi-Iwobi. Or on Aribo's good day, we have Ndidi-Aribo-Iwobi.

When JPes goes 442/4222, Ndidi-Iwobi pair takes it.

Onyedika comes in as an alternate, not far behind to pair Iwobi if Ndidi isn't up for it.

Onyeka to come from the bench. I love Onyeka's energy and his tireless runs but I have always said it times and again that he doesn't offer much in the ball playing aspects of the middle game. He isn't adept at receiving between the lines when he burst forward and he clearly doesn't receive well from defense.

Ofcourse this MF trio would look different if we consider all our options (invited and uninvited).

Then Tammy Abraham was being so hyped way above Osimhen. But today Osimhen is far ahead in everything.

He's now a hotcake in world football while the once hyped Tammy is nowhere to be found.

I'm not sure it really matters that much. Ghana once laboured to beat Sao tome 1-0 and 3-1 but we know the story when we landed on them. And besides under rohr whose goal limit was 4, we beat them 4-2 and 3-0. Now imagine what a Jpes team will do to them.
That Ghana 🇬🇭 team no be am again for decades now. Na only when dey hear naija their muscle go flex … Imagine, they labored to beat São Tomé recently 🤣🤣🤣

to hv more playing time and to be closely monitored for a possible call up to the first team when needed mostly when injuries hit the squad

Academy players called up to the first team to train as well as making the bench implies how good the snr team handlers thinks of such talents

Akin making inter’s first team training and bench last season after just few months with their primavera squad shows how good he is

Also he had offers to move out on loan this window frm mid table serie A and serie b clubs but inter decided against it
Good points thank you.
