MY COMMAND PHILOSOPHY AIMS AT ENHANCING NAF CAPABILITIES FOR FUTURE WARFARE - CAS

The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar has stated that his command philosophy which is, “To transform the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) into an agile and resilient force that effectively meets the airpower demands of national security in all operational environments” is critical towards building the capabilities of the NAF for future air warfare. He also noted that any armed forces that fail to prepare for the probable future will always be reactive rather than proactive in its approach to national security issues. The CAS made these statements earlier today, 21 September 2023, during his paper presentation as a guest lecturer at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji,Kaduna State. Speaking on the topic, “The Future of Air Warfare in the Nigerian Air Force – My Command Philosophy,”
Air Marshal Abubakar went on to note that the nature of future air warfare would be determined by a number of factors, including internal and external threats to national security, the national economic fortune, and the air power capabilities of the Service.

Relating the significance of his command philosophy to NAF involvement in future warfare, the CAS reeled out the key enablers of his philosophy and how they would impact on the Service. In his first key enabler which focuses on “Optimising force structure and establishment for enhanced operational effectiveness,” Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the NAF under his administration is acquiring more platforms including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for real time Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance and precision strikes, as well replacing its medium and heavy airlift capabilities for more effective and rapid mobility. Additionally, he continued, efforts were in the final stages to conduct the first-ever capabilities-based assessment of the NAF, which would enhance the operational effectiveness of the Service in current and future air warfare.

In analyzing the significance of the second key enabler which is on “Deliberate training and mission-oriented force development” the CAS stated that human capacity development in the NAF under his watch, is consciously tailored towards achieving assigned tasks and bridging current and future gaps in NAF capabilities. He also noted that in order to address NAF's present and future air combat needs, about 1,476 personnel are currently enrolled in several training programmes, both domestically and internationally. He was also emphatic when he noted that, "All selections for course will be merit-based to ensure that only the most qualified are selected to give the NAF value for money."

While discussing the relevance of the third key enabler on, “Proactive logistics support and strong maintenance culture” the CAS stated that the NAF is implementing a holistic aircraft maintenance planning system which entails that all the spares and consumables requirements for future aircraft inspections for the next 4 quarters are compiled in advance and processed with immediate effect. This, according to him, would invariably ensure that aircraft were available for quick combat against enemies in order to meet national security objectives.

Speaking on the fourth key enabler which focuses on “prioritizing research and development leveraging cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships and lessons learnt,” the CAS stated that the NAF *was* making significant gains toward domestic manufacturing of required capabilities through Research and Development activities in addition to utilizing cutting-edge technologies. According to him, "The NAF has been manufacturing various military equipment to support counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency operations through the Air Force Research and Development Center."

Regarding the last key enabler that entails “Maintaining a highly motivated force by enhancing welfare and infrastructural renewal,” the CAS maintained that to ensure that NAF personnel accomplish personal and organizational goals, the Service, he said , has a role to play in providing the enabling environment. This thinking, according to him, led to his decision to convene a committee of officers to ascertain the accommodation deficit of the NAF with a view to addressing the lingering problem of accommodation shortage. New uniforms and accoutrements, he continued, would also be issued to all personnel on a yearly basis just as payments of all entitlements are now being paid as at when due and without delay. These efforts, according to the CAS, would put NAF personnel in the right state of psychological readiness for air warfare now and in the future.

In concluding, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that if the challenges militating against operational effectiveness in the NAF persist, they could hamper its combat readiness for future air warfare. Prominent amongst these challenges, according to him, are; dwindling economic fortune, low technological base and inadequate strategic alliance. He, however, stated that it remained incumbent on the Service to surmount these challenges and build the NAF combat readiness for both current and future battles.

TURKISH AMBASSADOR SEEKS ENHANCED DEFENCE COLLABORATION, READY TO TRANSFER TECHNOLOGY TO NAF

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Turkey, His Excellency Mr Hidayet Bayraktar, has expressed the readiness of his country to heighten the already existing defence collaboration between the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and the Turkish Government, through the transfer of defence technology. The Ambassador stated this on 3 October 2023, while on a courtesy visit to Headquarters NAF, Abuja. Speaking further, the Ambassador noted that Turkey has, over the years, collaborated with the NAF and would not relent in ensuring that the partnership is taken to a much higher level. He also assured that his country will not only sell defence products to the NAF but would be happy to assist the NAF develop its capacity to manufacture and maintain some of the products. On the execution of the already existing TK-1 helicopter procurement agreement with the NAF, Ambassador Bayraktar promised to ensure the delivery of the platforms as scheduled as well as ensuring their sustenance through an effective maintenance strategy with the NAF.

In his response, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, thanked the Ambassador for his assurances and noted that the NAF will leverage on the opportunities presented to improve its Research and Development (R&D) drive. He further stated that the offer of technology transfer aptly aligns with one of the key enablers of his Command Philosophy, which prioritizes R&D leveraging cutting-edge technology as well as lessons learnt. Speaking further, the CAS noted that the support of the Turkish Government is key to sustaining the ongoing counterinsurgency operations in Nigeria and implored the Ambassador to use his office to help fast-track the delivery of the 6 TK-1 helicopters to Nigeria. The CAS then used the opportunity of the visit to emphasize the painstaking resolve of the NAF to capitalize on the prospects presented by key partners to develop and enhance NAF’s capability to effectively secure the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

Highlight of the visit include the symbolic laying of wreath by the Ambassador at the NAF Memorial Arcade in honour NAF personnel who paid the ultimate price in the defence of Nigeria.

TERRORISTS IN TUMBUN FULANI AND TUMBUN SHITU AT RECEIVING END OF NAF FIREPOWER

Terrorists hibernating in the Tumbuns on the fringes of Lake Tchad in Borno State were at the receiving end of NAF’s firepower as air strikes obliterated their hideouts, destroying their structures and strategic logistics base. Specifically, Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu were struck between 27-30 September 2023, when activities of terrorists in the locations were confirmed to have constituted a threat to military formations and law-abiding Nigerians residing within the locations.

At Tumbun Fulani, terrorists were observed loading jerricans in 2 guntrucks concealed under shrubs. Subsequently, NAF aircraft were scrambled to interdict the location, believed to be a major logistics base. After the strike, Battle Damage Assessment revealed several terrorists were neutralised and the guntrucks destroyed. Similar strikes were also undertaken at Tumbun Shitu after structures believed to be terrorists’ hideout were observed tucked under thick foliage. Additionally, 3 guntrucks with terrorists were sighted moving into the location. The need to strike the location thus became imperative. The aftermath of the air strike revealed several terrorists were neutralised and the trucks destroyed.

The determination of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to significantly limit the activities of terrorists in the Northeast and indeed other parts of Nigeria remains on course. Operational gains by the AFN are indicative of improved synergy and cooperation by all security agencies as well as the unwavering support of all Nigerians.

The videos from Israel are unprecedented in the country's history.

Palestinian terror group have entered Israel from Gaza and are massacring civilians on the streets and in their homes

Israel will strike back harshly. Prepare for months, if not years, of heightened instability. Israeli troops where totally caught unguarded, there are reports of some military FOB and police stations being overran.

This is a war the Palestinians and HAMAS has brought on their selves, trust me the Israelis will bring down all their hammer wrought on them this time around.

Al Qassam Brigades (Hamas) destroyed a Merkava Mk4, perhaps the same one we have seen from the ground, with a drone-dropped PG-7VR tandem HEAT RPG projectile, easily piercing the armour from above.

The future of modern battlefield is rapidly changing, can't believe an MBT like the merkava can be destroyed from the top.
The Russian-Ukraine war is rapidly changing the dynamics of war, A piece of RP7 warhead and cheap drone would take out a million dollar hardware.
