Chairman of the Presidential Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee, Taiwo Oyedele, has said Nigerians should pray that the country’s refineries do not work. Oyedele, who spoke at The Platform’s Independence Anniversary event, held in Lagos on Monday, said should Nigerian refineries produce petroleum, inefficiencies in the management might make a litre of petrol the most expensive in the world. “Nigerians would say if only our refineries were working, then we’ll be fine. Nothing can be farther from the truth than that. In fact, Nigerians should come together and say please make sure that our refineries don’t work. We should sell them. “If Nigerian refineries process crude oil, unless we deal with our inefficiency, one litre of petrol will be the most expensive in the world. You would have succeeded in replacing the subsidy at the pump with subsidy of the refineries,” he added. “The National Assembly said we have spent over N10tn maintaining our refineries even when they have not produced anything,” Oyedele said during the event tagged ‘Africa Rising Continent – Nigeria’s Strategic Role’. This job comes with a sad story. The owner who ordered and customised the job couldn't live to see it built and delivered to her site. It's just sad and sober knowing how much little the time we have in this life 1 Like

Roofing myths in Nigeria can sometimes lead to misconceptions and poor decisions when it comes to building or renovating a roof. Let's debunk 10 common roofing myths in Nigeria to ensure you have the right information: 1. Myth: Roofing is a DIY Job Reality: Roofing is not a suitable do-it-yourself (DIY) project. It's much more complicated than it might seem. Professionals are trained and experienced in working on roofs safely and effectively. Here's why it's a good idea to leave it to them: Roofing can be dangerous: Climbing on a roof without proper safety equipment is risky. Professionals have the right gear and training to avoid accidents. Quality matters: A well-installed roof can last for decades, while a DIY job might lead to leaks and costly repairs down the road. Legal issues: In many places, there are rules and regulations about roofing work. Professionals know these rules and can ensure your project complies with them. Overall, hiring roofing experts ensures your safety, the quality of the work, and compliance with local regulations. 2. Myth: Roof Color Doesn't Matter Reality: The color of your roof can have a significant impact on your home's comfort and energy bills. Here's how: Light-colored roofs: These reflect sunlight and heat, helping to keep your home cooler in hot weather. This can reduce the need for air conditioning and save you money on energy bills. Dark-colored roofs: These absorb heat, which can make your home warmer in the summer. While this can be cozy in cooler climates, it may increase cooling costs in hot regions. So, choosing the right roof color isn't just about aesthetics; it can affect your comfort and energy efficiency. Consider your local climate and your home's insulation when selecting the color for your roof. 3. Myth: All Roofing Materials Are the Same Reality: Not all roofing materials are equal. Some can withstand harsh weather, while others may not. It's like picking the right clothes for different weather – you wouldn't wear a thick sweater on a hot day, right? So, choose roofing materials that match your climate and requirements. 4. Myth: Roofing Is a One-Size-Fits-All Solution Reality: Roofs are like shoes; one size doesn't fit all. Just as you wouldn't wear running shoes to a formal event, you shouldn't use the same roofing for every building. Consider your building's purpose, local weather, and style when choosing your roof. Each one needs a custom fit! 5. Myth: Roof Maintenance Isn't Necessary Reality: Regular roof maintenance is crucial to prevent leaks and make your roof last longer. When you don't take care of your roof, leaves, dirt, and debris can pile up, causing problems. If you ignore maintenance, you might end up with big and expensive repairs. It's like taking care of your car – you need to change the oil to keep it running smoothly. Similarly, your roof needs some love and attention to keep it in tip-top shape. Don't skip roof maintenance! 6. Myth: All Roofing Contractors Are Equally Skilled Reality: Roofing experts aren't all the same. Some are super good at what they do, while others might not be so great. It's like picking a soccer team – you want the best players. When choosing a roofing contractor, look for folks with a history of doing great work. Ask for recommendations from friends or check online reviews. The right roofing pros will make sure your roof is solid and safe. Don't settle for less – choose experienced experts for your roofing job. 7. Myth: Metal Roofs Always Make Homes Hotter Reality: Some people think metal roofs turn homes into ovens, but that's not true! Metal roofs can be cool because they can bounce away the sun's hot rays. To make it even cooler inside, you can use good insulation under the roof. That way, you keep the heat out during hot days and keep the warmth inside during the chilly times. Metal roofs can be your friend in both hot and cold weather. 8. Myth: Flat Roofs Are Prone to Leaks Reality: People sometimes worry that flat roofs leak a lot. But guess what? If they are designed and built correctly, they can stay strong and dry! The secret is having a good drainage system that makes rainwater go away quickly. So, if you plan your flat roof well and choose the right materials, you won't have to worry about leaks. Flat roofs can be sturdy and reliable, just like sloped ones, with the right care and design. 9. Myth: You should replace your roof every 20 years. Reality: The lifespan of your roof isn't a one-size-fits-all 20-year rule. It varies based on different things like the type of roof material you have, the climate where you live, and how well you take care of it. Some roofs can last way longer than 20 years if they're well-maintained and made from durable materials. Others might need replacing earlier, especially if they face harsh weather conditions. So, don't just assume it's time to replace your roof after 20 years; get a professional opinion based on your roof's unique situation. 10. Myth: All Roofing Sheets Are Hurricane-Proof Reality: While some roofing materials can handle strong winds better than others, there's no such thing as a completely hurricane-proof roof. Hurricanes can be incredibly powerful and destructive. What matters most is how well your roof is installed and reinforced. Professionals can make your roof more resistant to hurricanes, but it's crucial to understand that even the toughest roofs can suffer damage in extreme weather. So, focus on proper installation and safety measures to protect your home during hurricanes or other severe storms. Pros in the house. I got this quotation for a 3 bedroom ensuite (with a visitors room). Rooms around 12 x12. Is it fair? Quotation for internal plastering ✓Cements= 50 bags, ✓Sands =3 loads, ✓Workmanship for internal plastering=#220,000. |

nurd: Workmanship is expensive for just the internal plastering. Always get three quotation for any job. I just did plastering for six flat, three down and three up for 750k for external and internal plastering excluding decking, bathrooms wall and kitchen walls. |
