You're actually right op, if your parent owns a house or a leave you a landed property behind for you then you have no idea of what God has done for you especially in this Lagos, I'm still feeling the heat now.

Only God knows when last I tasted home made food last, but surely there is light at the end of the tunnel!
You mean you cannot cook in your house?

It's a crazy situation, my friend.

Life deals with everybody from different angles with its many tentacles. Some are lucky to be dealt with soft, lovely, and gentle palms, while others struggle between the claws, fangs, and teeth of life.

This thought will make you start developing minute hatred for your family and lineage by the time the thoughts lead to a series of questions upon questions.

This disadvantage has an all-round strength and capacity to wither your dreams and ambitions. It's a sad one.

But you can't continue to murmur and lament about your family background and situation. Your family too has their trials and temptations; they have their mistakes and poor decisions, and you can't blame them forever if you see yourself as human as them. They too never wished for the lives they are living.

Henceforth, what you should ponder on is how to upheave yourself above the mess you are in due to genetic concatenation + the cesspool of a nation/continent due to the geographical distribution of nature.

Think of how to leverage.

There's unfairness, prejudice, inequality, and injustice in the land. However, look for the advantages in all of them, in any situation, and endeavor to push yourself out of it.

It's not an easy journey. But don't exit without a trial.

Thanks.
+1 bro.. I love how spot on and concise your write up is.. hope to see more of this type of stuff here.. cheers

Maybe you should tell that to Solomon...

Ecclesiates 4:2-4.

I envy those who are dead and gone; they are better off than those who are still alive. 3 But better off than either are those who have never been born, who have never seen the injustice that goes on in this world.

And of course, verse 4 supported some of your postulations...

4 I have also learned why people work so hard to succeed: it is because they envy the things their neighbors have. But it is useless. It is like chasing the wind.

To each its own.

MasterTeeUSA:
You know what is crazy...I never wish to be from another family not to talk of rich people's family. The fact that you think that means you are ungrateful that you are alive, healthy and mentally sound. It is when you see life as half empty that you think that way when you should also look at life as half full. Some were aborted, some were born with illness, some got paralyzed, some have been killed and lots are in positions that cant be changed. You have a life that can be filled of hope, purpose and can be the beginning of a change in your family...and all you see is the meal others have finished cooking...that is greed. Face your life, give thanks, and watch yourself become the changemaker and olu-omo (blessed child)...which is all you need.

I’m sure most of us here can relate, you’ll be considering if you should run away and you will be asking God why you didn’t come from Otedola’s family.

When you see your friends with rich parents and you will be like God why me 😢.

It’s crazy !!
I'm sorry to say this. If it affects your pedigree, pardon me. For me to have both parents alive, alone, is enough.

Some of my too well to do parents are either single parent, divorced, apart...by and large sha, the scores...

Please, I'm not typing this to stir up emotions sad Forgive me.

Appreciate them, okay. That's why they both gave birth to you and I to birth the possibilities they couldn't attain.

Remember their sacrifices for you... from mum refusing to buy wrapper to get you provisions back to boarding house. Salary came, she still used it to buy provisions. You didn't have body spray; she sacrificed hers.

Dad, prefered to wear a shirt till the collar wears out so we could have all the text books.

Although, poverty is a spirit.

Oh God! I remembered how my Dad was in the rain on bike with our textbooks in packo bag, years ago... He took bike from his work place to bring me a textbook he bought in less than 24 hours of my making a request.

My problems with this Indomie generation is that: They don't reflect, so stubborn, senseless, ungrateful, lack discernment and so much dishonour. They won't relate, at all.

You hear them say, " Is he not my father. Was'nt he the one who gave birth to me?" Ask the almajiris for newsflash.

Kai! My Dad, my Dad...Iam changing that Venza to a Range Rover Velar. God!!! cool That man.

Continuation to what spirit of poverty does...

1. It either eats up all your investment whenever you want to do something meaningful; something, somehow and somewhere will come and gulp these monies that you can't gainsay HOW COMEShuh

2. It keeps you perpertually in debt, loans, borrows. You can borrow millions, yet, be feeding from hand to mouth.

3. Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly: some persons assume and believe that wealth and riches are not meant for everyone. I don't know who bewitched some people, though with such a dying mentality.

4. Poverty could be a pattern. So, is riches, wealth and abundance. As wealth spreads over families, so does poverty. Check well.
Especially your father's house. You can someone with masters, Ph.D, yet they are borrowing ₦5,000. Nothing to show for it.
The spirit of poverty has a way of rmaking the victim go in repetitive circles.

5. Issues of environment, again. There are environment that your mindset can never out grow there in your own. You need a high spiritual clime. I'm sure when Terah, Abraham's father settled for Haram whereas the Promise was in Canaan.

I'm sure even God told Abraham the promises at Haran; tendencies are there that he will never believe.

And God said, "Come out of your father's house to a place I will show you..."

I hope you're not in your father's house as I type thishuh

God told Abraham, "Get out of your comfort zone!!!!"

Back to where I was...

Whereas, the only thing that adds up in their life is age. After 365 days? Yes! And this is a curse.

God bears me witness. I never envied a friend for once to wish my parents could be like theirs.

Of course, present conditions could be from the poor choices our parents made (I won't back them in this). Perhaps, they played it too safe.

Maybe when the rich parents were buying bushes (thinking long-term) our parents were like "who will see and buy bush talk less of living here (thinking short term).

As the saying goes, if you come from a poor family; a poor family shouldn't come from you.

Why? God put you in that family to change the situation. Check the story of Jabez. I'm sure the poverty ravaged his family, yet, no one seems to do a thing or two about it.

He prayed, "That thou wouldest bless me and enlarge my coast..."

Do you know why he prayed for himself first? Before you think of changing the lives of others, yours should be first. You can't help the poor by BECOMING one of them.

And we learnt that the he was more honourable than his brethren. Meaning, that he exalted them to a prestigious level; but they were less in honour.

The less is blessed of the greater.

So, if, especially you're the first born, first male child or first bread winner or first to assume to take that quantum leap to break out; get ready for physical and spiritual battles.

I'm sure of this; YOU WILL WIN!!

Please, don't give up! If you do, who will help them?

How thrilling will it be when your purchase cars for your parents??

Poverty (abject) is not our portion. I pray God gives us the wisdom to create ideas with the graces to follow suit and be a blessing to many and to the ends of the earth.

May God do us good.

PS: Hope you're being productive at the moment??. Because wishful thinking, alone, will only make you grow weary and tear you to the bone marrows.

Can't wait for your turn around testimonies.

Cheers! Go. Run. Your family is waiting.

To each its own:

We do all our work just to get something to eat, but we never have enough. 8 How are the wise better off than fools? What good does it do the poor to know how to face life? 9 It is useless; it is like chasing the wind. It is better to be satisfied with what you have than to be always wanting something else.

10 Everything that happens was already determined long ago, and we all know that you[a] cannot argue with someone who is stronger than you.11 The longer you argue, the more useless it is, and you are no better off. 12 How can anyone know what is best for us in this short, useless life of ours—a life that passes like a shadow? How can we know what will happen in the world after we die?

first of all understand where you are and know where u would like to be and u will be amazed how your body system align with that vision..it might take a while but u will surely get there. Don't give up and don't try to do what ur mates are doing know where u are going.
I have discovered who I'm, what I love doing, and I am existing with vision. But lack of financial support is really bringing me down and getting me depressed.

If my parents were middle class, I would have gone far in life. I mean, I love music since my secondary school days, I told my dad and he couldn't afford to send me to music school and couldn't get me a guitar. I saved my SS2 feeding allowances, starved myself and registered myself in a music school (RPMC at Mushin), and got a guitar. Today I'm good at it.

I love programming and they couldn't afford to get me a laptop. I begged some relatives to help me out, and I got my laptop and I'm still learning web development.

What about academics?
I do beg my friends, extended family, and even unknown people just to feed in the university, I suffered a lot and I'm still doing well academically. My parents don't even care about how I'm feeding and faring in school. To get any material is war..

I do imagine that what if I'm from a middle class or rich family, I would have been better than this. Despite coming from a very poor background, I'm still pushing myself to success. Honestly I'm depressed at the moment. I will be resuming for my final year next 2 weeks and I haven't pay my school fees yet.

Music has been giving me little money I have been using to feed for the past few months. Thanks to my guitar skills.

If I have a better support system, I know what I can achieve. And some people parents have money but they aren't serious with their lives. They don't know what God has done for them.

Exactly. Money can solve 98% of my problem currently. If I am financially ok, I will be one of the most happiest person in this country. All my problems are tied to money. School fees portal will close soon like this, I have been thinking since morning and my dad is ignoring my calls. I'm really depressed.
I have the zeal, vibe and ambition for success and lack of financial power is dragging me down. It is well.

A thief is one who takes that which belongs to someone else.

What makes OP a thief in this case for wondering why he was born into poverty by his parents and not into abundance like other kids were? undecided

Una go just dey use all forms of emotional blackmail and lies to cover up for all the wickedness you dey perpetrate against your own flesh and blood. Yet with the same mouth una go claim say na love when in fact it is all emotional gaslighting. undecided
Gaslighting is a form of psychological manipulation in which the abuser attempts to sow self-doubt and confusion in their victim's mind. Typically, gaslighters are seeking to gain power and control over the other person, by distorting reality and forcing them to question their own judgment and intuition.

You forgot to mention that the vast majority of those born in poverty never escape it and end up passing it on as a legacy to their children and so on. Only a handful who are born into poverty are able to escape it in the end. undecided

2. Putting on your thinking cap is what the majority of those born into poverty attempt, some until the moment of their death, but you forget that putting on your thinking cap cannot magically provide for you the opportunities and advantages necessary to help you rise out of poverty. So many out there have great ideas that could save the world from hunger and maybe even from global warming and so many other problems but being stuck in poverty keeps them and their ideas away from those who are able to transform them into reality. undecided

Let's stop pissing down the backs of people and telling them it is raining abeg. Stop gaslighting people for speaking up against even the obvious evils perpetrated in society by parents against their own children. lipsrsealed
