You should have gone for solar, use energy saving bulbs and you good to go. Forget about A . C for now, there are solar powered Fans that will do well, what is most important that your laptop is working if you say you really work from home

TheOldGods:
Nobody is talking about the big Elephant in the room, which is lack of electricity. This week I've spent 58,000 naira on fuel for my generator for work, that is full tank for alot of cars every week, and the car owners are complaining, what about us that need Electricity to work.

I barely get 6 hours of electricity, I tried buying solar, but the conditions are too much, turn off this, turn this on, don't use this bulb. Mehn, plus I can't turn on AC while working.

Since my work is from home I decided to buy a laptop worth 1million here on Nairaland (thanks to Nairaland) just to ease my work, atleat I get 4 hours of break in severe heated room with my laptop.

How else can someone survive in this country with this low electricity, is there any state that is better? Or is it a must I have to travel to another African country just to get simple electricity to work. My generator just went off and my fuel gone, that why I came here to rant. I'm going to buy feul at 615 naira per litre cry

One day you people will stop lying to yourselves

Give them till late January or February next year. By then the rainy season would taken its leave and the rivers and lakes will be dry - there'll be no water then to power a few dams and preserve the illusion. The coolness of harmattan (if we are lucky) would also have come and gone by then.

The usual heatwave we dread would have started working its wonders by early February and we'll all be very black and proud. wink By that time it will become clear that a country hundreds of millions strong cannot, and I mean cannot be serious if its national grid is still in the 5,000 MW range.

Till February.

Fixing solar that will work with AC is 430k n he can use d rest to buy system n have rest of mind

But people will decide to act stupid n later blame d government

The only thing u can’t use with a 430k solar is hot plate

Some people here just want to do stupid things n look for who to blame

Even ordinary sunking solar fan na 80k n u will use it for 12 hours comfortably

I spent less that 500k for my solar n I am good to go

Can you share details of your setup? What kind/capacity of Inverter, battery etc? + When was it installed?.

It's funny to see how people are asking the op to relocate on account of power supply. Nobody seem to consider the cost of relocating, what if the op has a family and maybe the wife has a good job? What about the children's school?

As for those who are blaming the op for using a 1m laptop, but is complaining about 165k fuel, I guess you have forgotten that the laptop is a capital expenditure, a one off thing. Whereas fueling is an operating expenditure a reoccurring expense. I've also seen people say that a 1m laptop should last for more than 4hours, have you considered the processing power and what the op is using the laptop for? For instance running a video conferencing app drains battery more than streaming videos. And I know for sure that if the op is a 3d animator his power consumption will be more than a regular graphics designer or a content creator.

To the op, the reality is that solar remains your best bet, you can buy the components in bits, but don't go cheap if you want a system that will last and good return on investment. A 5kva installation should be enough for most homes.

PS: Currently, I stay in a location where we get 20-40 hours of power supply in months that we're lucky. But I prefer the place for a lot of reasons, security topping the list, I can move even by 2Am without harassment from criminals (including those on uniforms)

I am interested in this solar setup.
I am particularly interested in it because of the fact that it can power AC.
Can you kindly help with the contact of your plug.
Thanks.

Nairobi has been in my to-do list,
common nariobi dy enjoy power 24/7 while Nigeria dy mumu dia sef. For where I dy stay for aba,we never see light for four days now..as a matter of fact we barely account for 48hours aggregate of power per month..

check the state you live very well, there are areas with at least 20hrs of power supply. try to move to those places and you will cope just fine. where I stay in ph electricity cannot be your problem because the light is almost 247. four days without interruption and if it goes off in less than 20mins it back again. my ac runs almost 247 and I refill every four months.

which area?

OP must be living in a place with a peculiar problem. Either it's one 'bush' or one area with serious issues of power theft or technical problems.

Light from public electricity supply is now so so good now that if there's an outage, in less than 5-10minutes, it is restored! Except when we had a major comprehensive engineering works which lasted about 2 weeks, I can safely beat my chest that I have enjoyed public electricity supply for average of 20hours per day for minimum of 3 years now.

Except if the OP is giving lamba to deflect his lamba to solar , this is a lesson to everyone about choice of where you live. Someone who can afford to buy N1 million laptop should not be living in a very poor residential area that are regarded as the lowest class on electricity classes.
If he is really wise, he doesn't need solar but relocation!

You'll just open your useless mouth to talk nonsense. If you have good electricity where you stay, does it mean it's same for everywhere? Nigeria has terrible electricity distribution and you know this, but you must defend this useless government

Na that poor electricity situation gingered me as a freelancer to leave Nigeria early 2017 for Nairobi, Kenya. Rented a bedsitter (self con) same day I arrived. bought a mattress, camp gas, 3 pots, cutleries and a bucket, used one of my mama wrapper I came with as the window curtain, the other as bedsheet...days of humble beginnings but did achieve so much there. cheesy cheesy cheesy cheesy

Electricity in Nairobi is 24/7, people don't own generators in their homes....enjoyed my 4 and half years in Kenya before moving on.

I watch Kenyan Youtubers online and I would love to live in that country for a while. Where do you stay now?

Solar is still the best for u. U roughly spent 160k/month on fuel which is equal N1.9m+ /year.

I have been using solar for the past 3years, I cannot even remember that I have generator. When using solar, with power management and more power banks, it will serve u for almost 24hrs every day.
