In this previous thread with the link below, we reported a bridge collapse that happened at Kilometer 1, Enugu - Port Harcourt Express road

This thread will be used to review the happenings since the bridge collapsed, the near silence from every government authorities about any planned repair, and the degradation being suffered by the inner city roads as heavy trucks invade the roads, causing damage in many parts of the roads. The pictures I showed below are the current state of the bridge as at today.

Now, this is what is happening, very heavy trucks coming into the city in a bid to avoid the collapsed bridge, to find their ways back to the Expressway to Port Harcourt............

Every heavy truck should have been moving on the expressway.

This was not how it was planned to be, we didn't think there will ever be a time when heavy trucks will pass through the inner parts of this city.

Trucks dey move inside your Enugu town and you dey complain. That means if Enugu gets 1/10 of the infrastructural pressure a city like PH gets, you go protest. cheesy

Although for some months now, Tinubu subsidy removal policy has eased vehicular pressure on road infrastructure.

The soil (base) under the bridge plus overweight vehicles (trailers) are the reason for the collapse.
From the picture, the base has been washed away by erosion.

The SE needs to devise a way of building roads given the type of soil condition in the region. With all the Civil Engineering Dept all over Nigeria, they should have been able to figure out something.

The soil conditions in the East is much better. Very firm hard soil. Stony in most places. What caused the collapse of the bridge is overuse, it was obvious that it will collapse because there has been no maintenance works on it it started showing signs of distressed many years ago.

Enugu has very good roads and it's one of the coolest place to be.

Soil condition has no effect on bridges because it's sitting on pile foundation which goes down to the bedrock
