Good morning gentlemen and ladies.
The year is almost at an end, that means the annual Nairaland Football Fans Award is coming up. Last year, we couldn't organize the award because a significant number of people voted against it, largely due to the anger that emanate from the super eagles failure to qualify for the world cup. But I believe it's been a good year for our football this time.
I had sought, and gotten the permission of the pioneer of this award, icon4s to organize it again for a second time. Howeve, I'm seeking the full approval of this thread before proceeding, because ultimately, you're all the biggest contributors to Nigerian football discussions on Nairaland.

Therefore,if you are in support of the award taking place again this year, and me organizing it, please click like, if no, click share. Voting ends on Tuesday evening, 8pm Nigerian time.

Thank you

I'm no fan of Bashir. I think he's an ethnic bigot and looks for controversy where non exist. This however was bound to happen. Immediately I saw the post this morning I knew it could be perceived as insensitive by our northern brothers and I wasn't wrong. The aboki stereotype is something those of northern heritage do not take kindly to being called by Southerners, especially when used derogatorily. Of course I know Boniface was just being jovial, but I see how it can be perceived differently. It sadly gives room to people like Bashir to pounce,l. I'm.glad he took it down.
Boniface has to restrain himself. Banter of the sort he engages in is fine if it is done once in a while. Do it every time and you come off as pedestrian and you'd fall into pitfalls such as the one Boniface posted.

Agbero and Aboki are 2 different words with different meanings.

Agbero means thug while Aboki means friend.

If Hausas did not adopt arab naming customs and practiced Hausa naming customs there will Hausas bearing Aboki in their names.

Aboki is not an abusive term while Agbero is an abusive term.

the fact that bashir is interested in going after SE footballers means he is also on this thread and the way you respond to people is very similar to the way bashir responds to people so just use your real identity and stop hiding.
With language sometimes, it is not the meaning of the word that matters. It is the intention and context that matters. A good word can be used derogatorily. Light is good but it can blind.

But we are a generation of too much sensitivities. Small word, people start crying.

Agbero no be thug. The guy is right. Agbero are those NURTW guys, that give tickets to conductors a.k.a owo mi da
Agbe eru. Carrier of load. In Makurdi where I grew up, they are called Agboro. We didn't even know the etymology of the word just like many other ethnic derived words that litter pidgin English.

Sancho made me skeptical of him but I'm converted now
When I watched that Bellingham at the last WC, I knew he was a gem of a player.

I don't think Kickoff ever had a magazine. It was CompleteSports that had magazine. Kickoff was owned by South Africans. Icon4s, Forgiveness and one other person in this thread was there then. I flexed that site tire with Nokia C300 and Symbian phone.

Dem get kickoff magazine

Agbero is different from Agba eru(Alabaru).
the issue here is the use of the word. If someone says for instance " awon agbero wa ni adugbo mi" what it means won't be nurtw guys, it will definitely mean thugs. Like that guy said, others words used to describe thugs in Yoruba has collapsed into agbero. If you say it means nurtw ticket collectors you are right. If I say thugs I'm also right.

I still get a very old kickoff magazine for house self, Na my late Elder Brother bought it, he introduced me into reading dailies,

his best was Guardian paper then thisdayport,

before finally settling for complete sport
wow! I was introduced to reading papers generally by my dad. The man love newspaper like mad maybe due to his military background. He's always buying either complete sports or today sports.
Later the vendor started giving us for hire N10, we read and at the end of the day he come pick it up. I do read kickoff magazine and sportylife (this one to buy am dy expensive). I later register on kickoff site with my Nokia c10.

Looks like the 1985 U17 world cup winning boys.
It is only easier to identify those that progressed into the senior team. The one to the right looks like Victor Igbinoba, though.

It's the 89 set.

Benedict Akwuegwu and Babatjide Oguntuase.

The both look truly U 17.

You are actually worse than Bashir! Just wow! @Emmy450 see this hypocrite! Your posts below actually confirms my previous assertion, if Boni sub Aboki for Agbero Yorubas like yourself will infact do more than what bashir did.
You are such a disgrace to the entire Yoruba tribe! @lovewins
