Talk about the height of idiocy.

This was your Lord and Saviour demanding for 7.5bn naira. Unlike Wike, Fubara himself has never come out to tell you Wike asked him for money.

Look in the mirror, the useful idiot is you.

I mean, are you really for real?

What strong serious respect-commanding, no-nonsense, force-to-reckon-with-in-international-spaces president will be doing Twitter space or attending Brekete Family show?

Does interviews replace policies and a working administrative members?

It seems as if you tweeted this just to be dragged, and we have a Yoruba term for people like that. They're always called "eran iya," lmao.

At some point, you start looking forward to the interventions.
As they present the perfect opportunity to convert saved naira.

In the medium to long term, the rate goes in only one direction.
As such, these interventions are the informal reverse contract forwards for anyone who earns naira from a job or business.
Dollar earners can sell high and buy low.
Because you know the Nigerian addiction to cheap FX guarantees CBN/FG action whenever there's a massive drop.

As for the scarce $ used to prop up the naira.
If they don't spend it on this, they'll use it to service loans that have been or will be squandered.
Besides, Nigerians cheer using borrowed $ to temporarily inflate the value of their battered currency backed by vibes, corruption, and Inshallah.
So it is my solemn civic duty to buy at 850 and sell at 1500. At which point, I'll join the chorus to get them to intervene again to bring it back down to 1000.
Let us finish the country kpata kpata. If you don't have a second passport...

All u've done is to tell us is that MDA's can always pad the budget because the ministry of finance is too negligent in their duty of preparing and managing the annual budget of this country . The bucks of all of which stops on the GCFR's table .

No wam!

Me I no get problem with it at all .

Budgeting is a complex and multilayered process

You have zero based budgets and incremental budgets

Almost all companies use incremental budgeting as you can spend unjustifiable amount of time on a zero based budget

All an incremental budget needs to see is an uplift on prior year in line with inflation. If there was padding in prior year, it will flow through into current year quite easily if all levels of the budgeting process have not done their diligence. That's why Osinbajo was making noise about zero based budget when he first came in because he wanted to clear out the recurring padding from previous years.

I oversee budgets for my organisation. I compile 10 entities into Group position. It takes me only 1 month to complete our entities with a combined revenue of circa £250m annual. I cannot and do not get into line detail except for the material cost lines, and for every other cost line, as long as the YoY growth is in line with inflation, I do not drill further, my variance analysis will simply say "in line with CPI uplift" or "in line with sales volume uplift" .

This year we have a new entity we are starting from scratch with revenues of only £29m. It took me 6 months on the matter with countless sleepless nights because every line has to be built from costs, quotes, conversations or modelling rather than simple YoY extrapolation. It's a zero based budget. Until you have sat in the seat of a budget compiler, you would not imagine how little of the detail a budget compiler will be able to articulate. In a budget of nearly N30 trillion, I assure you the Minister will not look into a N5bln expense which when grouped with other expenses into an expense object code may equal N200 bln. Minister may only see a N200 bln line for "Maritime expenses" which includes that N5bln yacht and may not drill further. It is up to every level of the budget process to exercise due diligence before it gets to the top dog. The top dog may only look at Maritime expenses 2022 and see N190bln and Maritime expenses 2023 and see N200bln and satisfy himself that it is inflationary uplift.

I saw a post on FP today with someone in Government saying every year Press like to pick out and sensationalize line items in budget and I agreed with him. I am 99% certain Tinubu did not have details on that Yatch and 80% certain the Minister did not either. It's the lower rungs in the budget process that would know about that. Infact most of the fraud occurs in the line items the press do not pick out, especially Payroll and Capital lines. The N2bln renovation press like to shout about here and there is just a distraction from the main koko where money is stolen. It's usually wife or cousin of President stealing miserly N1bln from that N2bln whereas the main thieves have written hundreds of billions into lines you can't easily call out and has been recurring for years.

Sure, I'm watching everywhere like a hawk. I'm even able to predict to some extent what direction it's going by following the news plus a little inside information.

The plan is to hold for 15+years. Short term pull backs don't bother me except that they present an opportunity to buy more.

The time for blind patriotism is over.

Wike has always been wike. he has been like this as long as he has been in the national spotlight

and he was celebrated for being a thug

Wicked Wike is what everyone called him. he is a product of rivers politics.

you should have seen enough by now to realize that politics in rivers is not for the faint hearted.

Fubara is not a saint he was in Wike's camp for the length of his administration. he never spoke out then against any profligacy he observed .he has simply pulled his own wagner move.

you have been following politics and you are not a neophyte so all this is very rich coming from you

Your grouse with wike and your laser focus on him is about the 2023 election and his role in them.

but the hard fact of the matter is what wike did in the election, he would have done for whoever he chose to support APC, LP or PDP.

for engineering projects a bill of quantities/materials is prepared. this document should contain everything that will make up the project. those concrete roads umahi goes on about - a boq will include sections like preliminaries, demolitions, clearing, earth works, road, drains, service conduits, electrical. if the people preparing the boq decide they are going to chop from inside it, it is almost impossible for you to tell. as ibime said, you will be looking for the overly large items. but the money is tucked away in smaller items. electrical engineering is particularly arcane for project managers, and for years colleagues used to assume i had padded my BOQs because i an anal retentive and obsessed with detail, and most people are simply too lazy to start going line by line through excel worksheets

now take my case and multiply it. as you have said, the system depends on the assumption that everyone who has prepared the lower levels of the budget is honest and diligent. no oga at the top has the time and resources to say i want to see the budget in its entirety.

But I thought we all agreed right on this thread that Nigerians have a duty to hold their leaders accountable and not blame the west for every of their economic and political woes .......Why are we now suddenly accusing the press of sensationalism when all they did was ask questions ? I believe asking the government why they are spending N5bn on a yetch while we are in an economic crisis is part of holding our leaders accountable . No ?

The Tinubu led Federal government proposed a supplementary budget that included an item " Preaidential yatch " which the press didn't see any mention of in the initial 2023 budget . They pointed it out and the people started asking questions which the government was unable to provide reasonable answers to for a couple of days .

A certain Temitope Ajayi comes out and starts yapping balderdash about sensationalism when in fact all the people need is reasonable answer to why the federal government that stopped payment of subsidy on PMS due to paucity of funds is spending N5bn not on a warship but a "presidential yatch " .

At this point it feels as if the people (which the press is their mouth piece ) are just cursed to always get the blame for everything in this country . If they talk and ask questions they will get insulted by the political elites and those who speak for them; If they don't speak they will be mocked for their docility and inability to ask questions . 😔

It is well. At least the good thing is reason finally prevailed on the House of assembly members as they claim the N5bn has been added to the student loan ( which is obviously due to the sensationalism the yeye Temitope Ajayi was yapping about )

Is it not the obvious anomalies/abnormality in the budget the press will call out ?

If they start asking "why is N10 billion budgeted for a road that will not cost more than N3 billion in other countries ? " ..... Shebi it's this same spokespersons that will gaslight the press and shout them down .

I remember Babatunde Gbadamosi Ponting it out that the cost of Lagos Blue line far exceeds what was spent to construct a rail track from Ethiopia's Port to Djibouti ( That is a rail track that run from one country through another ). Maybe one can excuse BAT for not being able to see that #5bn yacht nonsense because of his schedule and the fact he has a minister for it but the minister for budget and national planning is inexcusable.. What else is his job if not going through details and numbers..

If not for the uproar, that #5bn would have been in someone's pocket by now..But since no one has been sacked or queried for such "error", then it's probably intentional and it's truly aLOOTa continua in full force..

slightly offpoint, but social media/the internet has killed journalism. Reduced advertising revenue means newspapers will not invest in subject matter experts who can properly analyse budgets. the climate of i must post first , we want the clicks and engagement means there is more interest in farming outrage than facts. so what we have are laymen who are counting on outrage

i am saying this because arguments about construction of road and rail are a recurring decimal where dodgy comparisons are thrown around

What Ibime wrote about budgeting process is true what the bosses are concerned about is the %YOY increase going further into details may cost you time that will lead to missing the deadline. Budget Circular usually arrive late due to bureaucracy so it's left for the desk officers to do a proper job under the supervision of his superiors

Whether newspapers or the press in general invests in experts or not is immaterial in this matter .

The fact as of today is that the press called out the unreasonableness of paying for any presidential yatch at this period of time and the political elites (the house of assembly in particular ) doubled down on the request by moving the funds requested for the yatch to the students loan provision .

The only times my legs feel like jello is when I've not worked out for a while.
But once I get up to speed, I just breeze through it.

These days I try to maintain a certain weight because it's easy for me to bulk up. So even when it starts feeling really light, I switch to cardio. After a while, I come back to leg press and feel the burn.
That way I maintain the same weight and look.

What's your workout routine like?

Do you think sim is acting alone or is it PDP behind him? Considering that in the last 8 years it was effectively rivers carrying the bulk of pdp financing and with wike in control that is unlikely to continue?

The sultan is the head of Islam in Nigeria right?
Because this is what he had to say about the man that was invited and it's a bitter pill to swallow as he knows what influence he holds and how fragile things are.

Man is reaping the dividends of muslim~muslim ticket. BAT is ready to take all d insult & abuse..muslim airforce..sultan head of state.

If I were to put two and two together from things that have been said and not said, agreements have been made as to who will succeed SIM. Looks like SIM is no longer comfortable with that arrangement, wants to build his own structure and install his loyalists.

Wike however knows too well that if that happens, he's politically dead. With the way he was sounding in that video, SIM will be lucky to go beyond this first term. Looks like the bridge has already been crossed. Another Ambode situation is loading.

WIke is too powerful politically in this state. All the HOR, Senate, most HOA, local government chairmen are his boys. How do you win any election without him? Even the Labour party HOR member is quickly aligning and followed his colleagues to see him. cheesy

SIM is obviously not acting alone. Even if he was initially, he now has people backing him. As for the financing, I'm not sure Rivers State is still financing PDP, at least certainly not like they used to.

LordAdam16:

I don't understand Nigeria.

Aboki will adjust. Give that market segment time.
Since the current wave of naira appreciation started, aboki rates have lagged behind p2p.
This will not always be the case. But for now, that's how things are shaking out.
