I don't blame some clients we come across saying;

- Install panels outside their roofs as carport/ swimming pool ports to avoid roof leakages , fire etc

- Install batteries , inverters outside the main building for similar fire reasons .

I've also come across several indoor installations running over the years without issues. Battery temperature sensor connected to ESS charge sources also need to be considered in most power system designs .
Guess lithium chemistry needs to be seriously studied especially now we've refurbished cells, substandard BMS et al hovering around the market esp in Nigeria . God help us

I don't think it has been established that it's the LFP "fault". What they have are hypothesis. There are several unknowns that need to be looked into. However it appears that's not going to happen anytime soon bc the scene is not safe for investigation to occur.

But you're right. For grade 1 safety conscious folks, eliminate any risk will supersede mitigating any risk. Unfortunately reality is that a lot of Nigerians have many constraints that make eliminating risks unviable.

Eg, i received a batch of lfp cells from china, that were improperly packed..and this resulted in one of the cell terminals getting slightly depressed and puncturing the cell...with resultant leakage of few drops of whatever liquid the cell is made up.

However the cell didnt have an obvious damage.
A greedy person or seller could have simply wiped off the leakage and used or sold that cell....

That cell when then used to build a pack could be quite unpredictable. So i simply laid it aside...and its gathering dust in my store.

Nb: nobody shud ask me to gift them the cell...cos i won't

Tubular batteries does what they call voltage sagging. It goes to fully charged at 27.1~ 27.5v floatation. After the sun goes out it start dropping to 25.3v (still fully charged) stays there for a while and when you put load on it, it further drops to 24.8v. it can say on 24.8v for hours depending on the load before it continues its voltage drop. So for a firm response what is your voltage at 75 or 85%?

I'm planning on getting a 5kwh lithium battery for my setup and have 3 battery options.

1. Deye lithium battery with EVE cells.
2. Dyness lithium battery with EVE cells.
3. Nruit lithium battery with CATL cells.

The seller recommended I go with the 3 option as he said they are made with good quality cells, but I'm not familiar with CATL cells.

It is supposed to both waterproof and can handle sun too. But I'll advise you mount it in such a way that the solar panel provides shade to the light from both sun and rain.

They're meant to work outdoors and should be waterproof. I got 2 earlier this year and from personal experience, I replaced both the same week I bought it. One did not last till dawn even after indicating full charge and both were not as bright as the other 100w I have been using for over 2 years.

I'd usually use silicone sealant on all edges before mounting these.

Most of these lights imported here aren't the best quality

40 c is well within the storage and operating temperature range for LIFepo4.

Below are storage and operating temperature specs directly from EVE. Furthermore there is a video on YouTube where will Prowse places a lithium battery outside in 49degree heat and subject tTo rain, winter and the elements for 2 years and nothing happened to the battery.

The article mentioned the cells were supplied from China. If the batteries are the cause of the fire, I suspect defective batteries were used. perhaps a poor grade rejected cell sold on as storage batteries. The one thing with lithium batteries is that they should not be stored or operated in high humidIty environments (see item 9 in last picture) so we should all bear this in mind because Lagos is a high humidity environment….often 80-90% humidity.

To me there is a level of spending where he “F” batteries makes no sense for what they are. I am yet to see any review of any “f” battery where the tested capacity matched the claimed capacity.

From what I understand CATL do not sell certified automotive cells to the public (that means Alibaba resellers too), all the Catl cells in the storage market are rejected cells that have been auctioned off. of which just like the Eve grade B, you will get good cells. The difference between eve and Catl is that you can buy certified automotive cells directly from Eve.

CATL is not superior to EVE cells, the issue is will you get the real EVE cells? Many sellers sell fake EVE cells. Better you buy an original CATL cells than a fake EVE. But if you are sure of your plug, EVE is better
