It is the school that pays most non-academic staffs not federal government. Nepa bills of student living in hostels who depend more on hotplate to cook amount to millions. When school show you their day to day expenses you go understand better.

Don't mind the ignorant ones here saying what they clearly do not know. Many universities are currently running on a deficit even with what they manage to generate. Unilag's VC mentioned the other time that their monthly electricity bill was over 100m.

So na Salary University dey take run their affairs?

Do you know how much it costs to power generators for students to use and read at night?

Abii una no dey use generator for your side?

Not just hostels, faculties and departments have to be run daily, or they expect lecturers to sit in their offices without electricity? How about water? How about equipment required for academic work? Such naive comments here honestly.

they should pay for the 40% to the federal government instead of paying money as bride to corrupt politicians
Re: ASUU, VCs Fault FG’s Demand For Varsities 40% IGR by femicyrus(m): 10:29am On Nov 08, 2023
This government is not serious
It should be 90% instead of 40%
That is the only way ASUU will stop the university from increasing school fees and exorbitant charges on the poor masses.

What are the Universities using the money for, when staff are still been paid by the FG?

The corruption in university compound is synonymous with the corruption in the larger Nigeria.

Cronies become billionaire just inside university compound alone via embezzlements!!

Investment in campus facilities, research, scholarships etc. Note that the income they generate through user charges are not even nearly enough for these academic institutions to be run properly.

Who pay Lecturers?

Who fund TETFUND
Is like you want form country for the same country abi

The government doesn't fund Tetfund. Go and enlighten yourself by reading the Tetfund act before displaying ignorance in the public.

You clearly have no idea what it takes to run a university. Let me list some of the items that gulp a lot of money.
Printing paper
Maintenance of buildings and equipment
Fuel and Diesel for generators
Electricity bills
Chemicals and reagents for laboratories
Other laboratory consumables
Stationeries
DTA for external examination, SIWES etc.
Production of other materials like ID cards, examination booklets, SIWES logbooks, boards etc.
and many others.

Note that there's part of the school charges that goes to the government already. The rest is for the things I mentioned above and I'm telling you that in most schools what they get from the charges is not nearly enough to take care of these things I mentioned.

Have you demanded from these schools to account for how they expend their revenues and they didn't?

Even if they are not paying their staff, don't they build campus facilities, conduct researches, and many other things using these revenues?

No one is against accountability. If the government is ready and ABLE to take on all the other running expenses, they should please proceed. They can then demand for the full revenue the Unis are generating.

But of course, you and I know what typically happens to money that goes into govt coffers, more SUVs for instance. The N50 stamp duty they deduct from millions of bank transfers daily, can we see what impact it's had on the citizens? Infact, don't let's get started.

Also, how exactly is govt going to generate FREE ELECTRICITY? How?

Stop acting dumb just because you support the current administration. Is the Federal Government fully funding the Universities to demand or want 40% from them? Are Universities supposed pay IGR to the Federal Government that is not funding it fully?

You see now.
Whipping up sentiments against the Government
The Students and their Parent knows that Universities are generating money.
Most of them established Ventures that runs bakery, table water, radio stations, Lock-up shops, collects money from campus shuttles and many more, hostels that they are not even maintaining, some even make the equipments in their engineering dept such as lathe machines available to artisans for use. What about the tractors and other equipment in their works department that they have leased out to companies.
Make dem dey play.

And they already said they're paying tax on all those. Or if you open bigness and pay tax, should the government come and demand 40% from you again?

Hatred for rich people is how APC came into power and that's exactly what you're displaying. You hate and envy people making money.

it is possible bro.unless they don't want to do it.if ExxonMobil can supply a whole community free electricity, universities won't be a problem.

All the govt universities in Nigeria.

They cannot at all be compared. So I am really keen to understand HOW exactly you think that's going to be done.

Yes ooo. Most people here speak out of ignorance. Some universities actually make a lot of IGR but they still spend it in running the university. There's infrastructural deficit in every federal University in Nigeria, instead of Government to look for ways to ensure that university managements utilize these IGR appropriately in solving some of the problems, they want to collect it. In some universities, lecturers don't even have offices. Some have offices but no furniture. There are classes without adequate furniture. Lecturers teach hundreds of students without public address system. Issues plenty well well.

The question is not about possibility, the question is how FREE ELECTRICITY will be generated for all public universities.
The Exxon mobil you mentioned, I hope you realise it is the revenue they generated from the community's resources that they used to provide that electricity. The point is there is nothing FREE in this world in running a country, someone somewhere pays for it. We can't just be making postulations online when we don't even know how something currently operates or how what we are saying should be done will be done.

...the university use it to run the university. Use it to buy disel to power their generator to provide light, to buy laboratory equipments, to maintain equipments and infrastructures , department s, in the university, use it to build hostel, auditorium , classes for students...you know the federal government does not fund universities again..so the university have to seek for funds to run the university through the school fees and other charges students pay

Students pay for everything in their hostel fees especially in the Southeast that I know.

Non-academic staff are also paid by FG under the salary structure called CONTISS.

The talk about universities funding and maintaining laboratories, equipment & co are all avenues for corruption. All those facilities are in shambles.

Yet, they fear NUC whenever they come for inspection and accreditation!!

Pls do your findings; I know very well about FG Yorofasities.
