Lots of Nigerians are fraudsters.

You can't employ sales girl, anybody in peace.

64 million as at 2012 is a whole lot of money.

Good thing these businesses are now using technology to reduces theft.

The challenge is its of recent a lot of these transactions are done through bank transfer, POS etc.

Five years is not commensurate to the degree of fraud perpetrated, 50 years would have been a little ok.

They were paying in cash and they collect the goods, the owner was not checking her banking records in details.
You can't possibly check hundreds of transactions daily na,remember they're in the open market as busy as oke arin with hundreds or thousands of customers.
At some point, you bring in a consultant for audit, say 3 months periodically.
That's when the myth was busted.

Helping the down trouded often is harmful. The best thing is help from far off. It's very sad. Same thing happened in ShopRite a femal cashier made over N500million till she was arrested by the company after it was discovered she uses her POS to collect money from heavy shopper's. If you notice in ShopRite the POS is stuck to the table.

I know how fast paced trade is in Oke -Arin as my mum once had a shop there for many years where she sold bales of stockfish with customers from different parts of Nigeria and weekly, she had my eldest sister who was then studying Accountancy at Unilag, to be reconciling the books, it gave little room for the about 5 people who worked in the shop to steal from her because records was always up to date.

Sadly, most traders doing high volumes find it unnecessary to engage accountants in their businesses as they believe as long as the shop is stocked and they are able to restock when due, the believe the business is going on fine until they crash.

That's why they are called Afonjas 🥸🥸🥸.
They are too lazy to think about how to genuinely make income. Once you employ them and they start milking you dry the next is to marry a new wife.
Not just new but a new dirty wyf with big ny*sh.
Although not all but majority of them.
Na their way.
In Abuja, you will hardly see them where genuine and stressful Labour/business is done.
You Only see them where you can steal with pen .
And this is a Yoruba man stealing from Igbo.
If it were d other way round ,they would’ve turned it into a tribal thing

It took thirteen good years for justice to be served .
Nigeria courts are too slow in dispensing justice.

The fraud was discovered in 2012, he was arraigned in 2013 and the case has been on since then. He was eventually sentenced last Saturday.

So since 2013 he has been in the prison

And the court sentencing in 2023
I don't think he has been in prison since 2013, the offence is bailable. Coming from home to court, if he had been in Prison, there wouldn't have been any sentencing then. He should have served his jail term.

That company is suspicious. How did they not know they were losing that amount of money? That is almost 400 to 500 thousand dollars in 2012.

The judgement has just been delivered!
The case has been going on since 2013 but the judgement just came down
What in the report makes you so sure the judgement was just handed down? You are going on pure assumption... is that reading between the lines? ... or is it because the Punch just post it?... same as because NL just post it one should read between the lines and jump to the conclusion that the trial went on for ten years? Explain to us mumus how you figured it out ... we are here to learn. If you can't then you be bigger mumu.

You obviously don't know what it means that a story has a dateline.

Also blame the employer for not doing due diligence before on boarding him in his employ. He would rather use a cheap labour than employe someone with skill and proven record of integrity because of how much he will pay as salary

But "competent accountants" go to jail all the time for defrauding companies!
It is actually a smart move on the employer's part.
She is an Igbo woman doing business in a tough agbero market in Lagos. She hired someone who knows the agbero world very well. I bet he's a big part of her success. And she probably "allowed" him to steal until he started stealing too much and wanting to start a rival company. I bet there was no "anonymous tip" - she knew all along!

Because only a capital MUMU will see a story in a major newspaper with the date it was reported clearly stated, and think it is from 10 years ago!

Of course he hasn't been in prison or he'd have been sentenced to time served.

And I don't know why no one else has picked up that he was actually sentenced to 2½ years - except yours truly
