Front loading is so basic in pretty much any action so I wonder why they would have made such a mistake. And it wasn't settled in the pre-trial conference??

It is basic but wasn't settled as at then.the new electoral act makes frontloading of everything mandatory but petitioners thought subpoenaed evidence were exempted so starting from obi and atiku,they started bringing subpoenaed evidences in the middle of trial.unfortunately,the pepc and apex court overruled them
