A civil society organizations, Citizens for change and transparency (CCT) has commended the introduction of new camouflage uniform for the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), saying it would not only boost morale of personnel but shows the Commandant-General's efforts to rebrand and reposition the Corps .

The group while welcoming the initiative of the The Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, said it will go a long way to strengthen the resolve of officers on the field of operations especially those in the taxforce who always work with other sister security agencies.

This was contained in statement by the spokesperson Evangelist Nwike Steven and made available to journalists.

He said the introduction of this brand of uniform is long over due, noting that the CG has also shown commitment to improving the welfare of personnel through trainings and retraining.


He said, "The camouflage uniform will add to the Corps effectiveness, efficiency and improvement in the discharge of their duties to Nigerians".


According to Steven, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi's action clearly indicates his passion to rebrand the Corps.

"The commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi is a man who has passed through the rank and file of the Corps, no wonder, his high love to reposition can't be compared to any".

"It is on records that his transparent leadership has distinguished him among his other security agencies in the country especially in the area of protection of life and property of Nigerians".

Steven also applaud the CG for making all commanders of units to have the requisite tactical, special force training in all ramification to be able to lead their commands or units.

According to him, Audi's dream is to empower commander's to demonstrate their capabilities and also displayed the much-needed synergy and cooperation that is required to overcome contemporary security challenges.

I really don't know their job description but I think more responsibility for them. Instead , they should be the trained as rangers to man our wildlife reserve, forest and other ungoverned spaces

But I think they are too under-trained and comfortable to be turned into our Marine. Nigeria don't even need the Marine Corp. It's the U.S expeditionary force and we don't have interest in fighting in foreign lands, except for peace keeping missions.

I believe the nation will benefit greatly security wise if Mr Tinubu transforms them into National Guard, and modelled after the United States'.

There is no way we can defeat BH, IPOB Terrorists and Fulani terrorists without a National Guard equivalent. We should stop over stretching our Army.

Their mandate includes protection off National infrastructure of which crude oil pipeline is among, these guys follow army dey fight militants o.

If there are areas in the north where there duty mandates, they'll be drafted to fight Boko Haram, they're a para military organization, higher than your regular Police, the only arm of police that can match them is the Mopol and some special units, dey pass your regular Police.

I agree that the Marine should be under the department of the Navy, but their training is far from regular naval training, they're more infantry than naval.

Just like the Army has both frog men and airmen, the Air force have infantry men and Naval men, and Navy have been infantry and airmen, the Marine is like an amalgamation of all three into one.

Some one commented that they could be used as National Guard and that makes sense.

On being undertrained, I think it all boils down to the role they are assigned to play, bigger responsibility calls for bigger preparations.

I like the Idea of a national Guard.

Ogbeni! Their mandate no pass security. They are guards nothing more nothing less.

Absolutely no doubt, I think National Guard makes sense... they only need to go for more combat training before considering changing thier name and duties

They are not higher than police in terms of training and duty there is regular police as there is regular NSCDC officer( non commissioned) officers. But the police is the primary body in maintaining law and order in a nation so their scope encompasses all affairs including security, threat both external and internal , crime, disaster, etc.
The army was the first security outfit know to man but as time and civilization progressed specialized outfit add to be developed since man conquered the sea he created the navy unit and when they conquered the air quite recently they bore out an Air Force unit. But in the days of old when the ordering began along civilization, rule of law and order for a specific nation or colony an outfit had to be created to maintain the laws of the land, peace and rule of law then came the police. most of the services and corps are born out of the police function, NSCDC, Fire Service, FRSC, EFCC, NDLEA in essence they are a subset of the police charge with a specific mandate where as the para military is a subset function of the military such as the Customs and Immigration. That’s why they are more concerned with Goods or people coming into the country basically external threats.
Lastly the police is not under an Act it is a creation of the constitution and it is called the police force even it’s called NPF there official website is Npf.gov.no. The Act is only police reforms law carried out by the National Assembly which the NSCDC is a creation of an Act. Please have your facts before you argue with me
