Has Michael Babatunde Justified His Inclusion In Nigeria's Squad?

semid4lyfe:

With his performance against Bosnia and Argentina, has Michael Babatunde justified his inclusion in the Super Eagles World Cup Squad?

Personally, I think he has. . .he's extremely hardworking, marks, back tracks & support the midfield, shoots and crosses very well and is unselfish.

For me, he's been the revelation in the team and his absence will be felt against France.

What do you think?

This post highlights a typical Keshi. A player all criticised turned a revelation. Give the man his flowers and stop disrespecting him.

Pls what was Taye Taiwo performance prior to 2013 Afcon and 2014 WC,was he better than Elderson Echiejele……Why not accuse Rohr of taken totally off form Echiejele to WC and one match wonder Idowu and Simy Nwankwo to WC but you guys keep on accusing Keshi of taken Shola Ameobi,Babatunde Michael,Uchebo and Nwofor to WC but despite that he still reached second round.

Pls paste where Taye Taiwo accused Keshi of taking bribe.

So he was stripped cos he was late to camp knowing fully well he went to bury his mother?lol!
Going by your logic, Olise must actually be a devilish individual? I will never want him near our team. His disposition on social media towards the team shows he has not change--unprofessional for a former professional!
TheGoodJoe:

Vincent Enyeama was stripped of his captain band before he arrived camp. So how is it that it was a clash of egos that led to him losing his captain band? That is a ridiculous statement. From the news, Oliseh stripped Enyeama's band for arriving late to camp, when he was burying his mum and returned a day late. There was no clash of egos. Enyeama left the camp after being stripped of his band irrationally. Not clash of egos.

How is picking Ikeme a clash of egos?

How Taiye Taiwo launched mutiny, rebellion against Stephen Keshi – Sylvanus Okpala

A band of Super Eagles players led by Taye Taiwo during the AFCON 2013/14 qualifier staged a discreet rebellion against their coach, Stephen Keshi, less than 24 hours after the Eagles played Rwanda.

Former Green Eagle and Super Eagles assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala in an interview with Nneka Ikem Anibeze, dismissed bribery allegations in the Super Eagles team of 2013/2014.

“I also read about Taye Taiwo’s outburst in the papers. After our experience with him, we never invited him again, Okpala said.

Okpala further stated that Taiye Taiwo created an imaginary bedlam in the squad vowing to get Keshi sacked as Super Eagles coach.

“During our AFCON qualifier against Rwanda, Taiye didn’t play well in that game, continued Okpala. Keshi complained after the match but the players went back to their rooms and started plotting how to remove Keshi. They never knew that Keshi’s room was the next to Taiye’s room.

“Taiye was telling other players that Keshi was shouting on him on the pitch and that he will do to Keshi what he did to other coaches and ensure that Keshi was sacked.

“Keshi was in his room listening to all their conversations. Now, most of them are now coming to talk about money. It wasn’t about money because I knew about these two issues involving Taiye and Uche. Which coach will like to invite a player who wants him sacked in his team? It’s not possible I am telling you what happened as an insider.

Sylvanus Okpala's response. Taiye Taiwo cooked himself. He felt too big.

Taiwo did not know Keshi was monitoring him and stayed in a room where he could listen to his conversations with other players.

WHEN YOU TALK OF SUPER EAGLES, I AM SUPER EAGLES...BIG BOSS STEPHEN KESHI.

Keshi was actually a man that had foresight which counted as being corrupt to many. I openly criticised the callup of Michael Babatunde for instance but when he played, many of us shut up. Just as many criticised his call up of Oboabona and Mba, and they delivered.

Some flopped and some performed. Even when he called Amoebi the first time, it drew criticism, but in the game against Italy, many shut up. He even got recalled to the starting lineup of Newcastle.

Keshi's vision and view of the game was beyond the thinking of many.

France had to cheat us to win. That was how good Keshi was. Leave the negativity and respect the LEGENDARY BIG BOSS.
One of the few instances where I agree with you.

Omo...I'm enjoying this discussion. Never been interested in argument like this in a while.

On Keshi taking bribe, I condemn such act. I don't have an evidence to show whether he collected bribe or not. However, his action is justified as he put his bribe collection into good use. Let me add that some of the players he brought into the team played a decent game. He got us an Afcon trophy and a RO16 finish at the world cup. I think he won bronze with the home based too.

Make una free the big boss abeg. Those coaches wey no take bribe, what have they achieved?

On a different note, in the U17 WC, Senegal were unlucky to face France in the 2nd round and lost out via penalties, very good team. However, Africa is guaranteed of a spot in the semi-finals as Mali faces Morocco. I hope the real African team wins.

I'm not defending Keshi, but I've seen that it's easier for Nigerians to accuse a local coach of collecting bribes once certain players start getting called up, but they hardly do the same for foreign coaches...
I remember Rohr calling up Uche Agbo almost every match but hardly plays him... Solomon Otabor from Bulgaria was another case... And there's Peseiro sticking to a bench warming goalkeeper in Cyprus....

Keshi had his flaws, but he was definitely a better tactician than most coaches that have coached the team after him...

He has had 5 or 7 friendlies against big teams and small teams and he hasn't won even 1. His best have been draws against Algeria team b, Saudi Arabia and 10 man Madagascar. That says a lot in my opinion.
