This is actually fallacious. Focus on data, not beer parlour talk. Let's list the ten all-time highest-grossing Nigerian movies:

1.Battle on Buka Street
2.Omo Ghetto: The Saga
3.The Wedding Party
4.The Wedding Party 2
5.Chief Daddy
6.Brotherhood
7.King of Thieves
8.Sugar Rush
9.Ijakumo
10.Christmas in Miami

Nine of these films are by directors of Yoruba origin. The main stars of all of them have been persons of Yoruba origin. Of the top 100 Nigerian movies, 72% are by persons of Yoruba origin.

And it is historical. The Nigerian movie industry started in Western Nigeria. Specifically, it was pioneered by Chief Herbert Ogunde, who started making movies in 1944. And if you adjust for inflation, Aiye, which he did in 1972, is probably Nigeria's biggest-grossing movie.

If you say film piracy is controlled by some people, you will be factually correct. Let's leave it at that.

As for the Hausa and Fulani, they run the most critical industry. Agriculture. Something like 75% of the food grown in Nigeria comes from the North, of which the Hausas dominate the North's agricultural sector. And almost 80% of the livestock consumed in Nigeria is controlled by the Fulani. Without food, no music or movies.

Competition is actually and can bring positive outcome if it is healthy but in Nigeria, it is always filled with hate.

The worst nature a man can have is not having self restraint. Reno Omokiri a hungry, dejected and rejected political jobber wants to have a bite of the national cake and has been parading naked in the cyber space ever since. He knows the idea of Tinubu presidency and ronu movement is born out of inferiority complex and in order to get political patronage he must boost the collective self esteem of the ronu and stroke their ego with unfounded claims.

To be sure, belong was same Reno less than three years ago saying unambiguously that Igbos dominate nollywood.
Note that most of the movies he referenced have been produced then. The fools will still cheer him.

Reno is very myopic and full of envy for Igbos. The Igbo movie culture represents the black race all over Africa and the world. "Igwe!" is the most popular Nollywood word among non-Nigerians.

Yorubas don't understand business. Quality is good but affordability and penetration is better. This was how China beat Europe. Yoruba makes quality movie but igbo "mushroom movies" is the face of Nollywood all over African villages
Re: Reno Correct A Fan On The False Statement About Nigerian Movie Industry by IDENNAA(m): 9:15pm On Nov 27, 2023
Igbos are not into professional movie making that's a fact. The movie listed by Reno are mostly done by true professionals not your typical Igbo movie maker nor Yoruba movie makers.

For instance, the Igbo has more accomplished football clubs than any part of Nigeria. Reno is just bitter over the beatings inflicted on him by OBIDIENTS.... grin grin

lol Asgard, you are still living in year 2001.

This is 2023, who gives a feck about other smaller African countries when men are now taking their film to the movies, YouTube, Netflix, and other streaming platforms.

You think we are still in the era of home video or what? How much will you make by selling your CD in Congo for example when you can take in millions instantly by premiering on Netflix?

Go and check the highest grossing movies out of Nigeria, that lies your answer.

You know what gave Yoruba the edge in movie industry? It is technology and fairness. If you remove fraud from any system, it will be hard for an Igbo man to compete.

Before the outburst of Kunle Afolayan some years ago on some Igbo pirates who use fraud to game producers, pirate their CDs, and then try to gag them even at the producing side, it used to just be business as usual. When movies started to digitize, it got really hard for those fraudulent pirates to steal people life investment so things flourish coz people now go to streaming platform and movies and money get to the actual producer removing the menace of piracy.
