Nigerian government prefers to buy imported vehicles because local manufacturers are still found wanting in terms of providing after-sale service, the Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite had disclosed.

The minister provided this clarification at a stakeholders’ engagement forum, organised by the National Automotive Design and Development Council in Lagos, recently.

The event had in attendance industry players who discussed the effective implementation of the Nigerian Automotive Industry Development Plan.

The Minister said the government’s stance on prioritising after-sale service aligns with its commitment to operational efficiency, reliability, and fiscal responsibility in managing its fleet of vehicles.

She urged automakers at the forum a renewed focus on after-sale support to ensure sustained business success.

“The auto industry is key to achieving economic diversification, and this is in line with the mandate of the ministry to ensure full diversification and full industrialisation of the economy,” stated Minister Uzoka-Anite.

She underscored the government’s commitment to supporting local manufacturers, stating, “Addressing customer complaints is not solely the government’s responsibility. We want to encourage local manufacturers to take some responsibility for business and operational risks.”

She advised industry players to “Develop partnerships with those producing parts, and urged them to try as much as possible, to have centres that are accessible to their customers.”

Emphasising the importance of market research, the Minister suggested, “Always do market research to know the number of service centres you should have.”

In addressing the concerns of buyers of Nigerian vehicles, Uzoka-Anite noted, [i]“I have engaged a lot of people who buy Nigerian vehicles, and the common complaint is that they don’t have a service centre

Hear the stupid thing a whole trade minister of a country is saying. NASS said the same thing. Minister said the same thing all to steal money.

They don't even believe in the country they are looting. She would have commit hakihari or be executed if Nigeria was China, Japan or North Korea.

They should shut up already.
Can you imagine the nonsense that a government official is spewing? These people don't rate Nigeria and Nigerians at all.

Imagine Japan's government said the same thing. Will we hear of Toyota?
Same with Ford and Honda and Kia.

This government is giving Buhari's a run for his money on the grounds of incompetence and insensitivity .

And they think dollar to naira exchange rate will happen by magic. No.

Tinubu, you have hit the ground running and you've caused an earthquake.

Failures.

Shame to you! When will you guys keep personal interests aside for national prosperity? How will this attitude help our economy? In China, even if the product is as weak as paper, they will still buy it. This will encourage improvement and productivity. If the government refuse to patronise our own, how will that encourage upcoming manufacturers to stay in Nigeria rather than japa?

Cursed nation of fools. This goat parading as minister still has mouth to talk.

A so-called minister of trade and investments is the one completely demarketing Nigeria and its few surviving auto makers. Those African countries that were looking up to Nigeria to lead the way in auto production will now do what after hearing this foolish minister?

I curse these fools and their supporters for damaging Nigeria.

FG, prioritize made in Nigeria vehicles.
It's for posterity.
This same foreign used cars aren't maintained. We still see different ministers owning brand new ones after end of one tenure. Where are the vehicles used by ministers under Buhari?
Are they worn out? Aren't they foreign made?
Is there no continuity of usage afterall they are official vehicles cos I can't believe all cars perished within 8 years afterall they are foreign made and durable ones.
If you are justifying why you must earn higher, get bigger emoluments and opportunities, why not justify why you must work hard to better the country?
Why is Nigeria's inflation getting higher despite the govt saying they are doing more?
Why is the dollar getting stronger against the naira? Shey it's not time to reduce cost of governance?
And one of them is by prioritizing made in Nigeria products. Even if monkey no fine, his mom should be proud of him.
FG should stop giving excuses cos these ministers don't have the final say. It should be a decree by govt to prioritize home made.
Do all things legally to strengthen the naira.

It's not a lame excuse as most of you are insinuating here, though I understand we've made it a habit of not believing our Government because all they is to lie to us year in year out.

I work for an outfit that got more than 20 pieces of Innoson vehicles especially the IVM carrier and IVM granite model . As I'm typing this right now 98% of these vehicles are parked in the workshop with no spare parts to repair minor challenges. Imagine relying on that kind of manufacturer to provide vehicles for your entire fleet , it would become a logistic nightmare and will disrupt operations and to make matters worst the Innoson man himself is just your typical irresponsible Nigerian businessman who's not ready to make any tangible changes All he wants is to be paid without adding value to his vehicles year in year out after all he's fully aware that with the local content policy , we will always come around to patronize his greedy ass.

Nigeria is complicated! Even me, I cannot be using Innoson until there is a Service Centre in around me.

Definitely buy naija to grow naija doesn't apply to you guys. However, in terms of after sale services and customer service generally, Nigerian businesses need to be more serious by training their staff to be more humane...they are often uncouth and outrightly rude...

Oga, if the citizens complain of service centres and parts, should government also complain of the same, so with all the amount of money they have used to import vehicles they cannot support local manufacturers with the same money to have parts and service centres that will benefit both the government and the citizens and increase local patronage....

So you are saying that the best solution for government on solving the problem for Innoson and other local manufacturers is to keep importing foreign vehicles....

If there's a wise man on this platform.

You will see opportunity in her explanation and statement.

You may instead of wasting your years, go and learn Automobile mechanics and Electronics.

You might do an excursion to or approach automobile companies to understudy them so you can be an After Sale Technician for them, and become their service center rep across the nation.
