80% Of Illegal Structures Demolished In Lagos Owned By Yoruba - SOWPROF by Omoawoke: 3:17pm On Nov 30, 2023
The South-West Professional Forum (SOWPROF) has said that the majority of illegal structures demolished in Lagos are owned by Yoruba people.

The SOWPROF, in a statement signed by its Assistant General Secretary, Lateef Kayode, which was made available to journalists in Ado-Ekiti, yesterday, dismissed insinuations that the demolition was targeting a particular group.

The professional group said attempts by a few people to ethnicise the environmental issue is self-serving.

We have done diligent checks. We have a compilation of all the victims of the demolition in Lagos. We have done extensive compilation of the victims and the issues involved. Some 80 per cent of the victims of the demolished buildings are from the South-West region.”

The group said it is a pity that ethnic politics is being introduced to the attempt by the Lagos State Government to deal with serious environmental hazards that have led to flooding, deaths and that even threaten the future of the people of the state.

It, therefore, urged the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, not to be deterred by parochial critiques introducing ethnic politics into a purely environmental issue.

SOWPROF said it started the compilation of names of the landlords five months ago and that the names of owners of the demolished buildings are available for the public, adding that demolition of illegal buildings is a nationwide issue.

It takes place in all the South-East, North-West, North-East and South-South. It has happened in Port Harcourt, Kano, Enugu, Onitsha, Owerri, Aba, Kaduna, Ilorin, Makurdi and in many cities across the country.

“It is unfortunate that some people are exploring the fragile political situation in the country to cause disaffection using the demolition of illegal buildings in Lagos State as a pun in the game.”

SOWPROF said property owners should ensure they do not invest in land and property that infringe on existing environmental laws.

News from aligned interest group should not be trusted especially if there is a benefit to such propaganda. Social media is king.

All of a sudden an imaginary group springs up and start defending the government Sponsored ethnic profilling going on in Lagos. You destroy what you cant build, thats the definition of retrogressive spirit.
The so called Yoruba professionals should save their explanations, this is no longer the era of Lagos-Ibadan parapo press, when you write trash Propaganda and the unsuspecting public will digest it. The Social media,Ereporters, witnesses armed with their phones and cameras have been recording the selective demolition of properties aimed at Igbos, going on in Lagos,as a fallout of the flawed elections.
I can assure you, whatever cannot kill a man only makes him stronger, our antagonists are our helpers. The South East is fast turning to a massive construction site. We shall all see the fallout of this Yoruba tribalistic agenda.
The Lagos state govt demolishes a few shanties and cubicles own by Yorubas and a few distressed buildings erected pre Awolowo and colonial days and these vagabonds are telling us that 80 percent of the demolished buildings are own by Yorubas.
Sanwolu's govt attempt at image laundry failed completely.

They are stylistically using damage control to change the narrative.

Yoruba people are destroying houses belonging to the Igbos. We have taken note already.
And what are you going to do about it?

Even, when an Eze Ndigbo got slapped by Akure Youths, he still had to come back and beg the Deji of Akure just as Ohaeneze and your governors are begging Sanwo Eko and Tinubu.

Destroying properties is bad. These are people's years of hardwork. Doesn't matter the tribes they are from.

Lagos could have handled this better. Also, it's ill-timed.

Greater Lagos is rising. Any obstacle on its way to 21st century standard would be demolished.

When Lagos flood due to ilegal building blocking drainages, una be the same people that would come and laugh at the state.

Anyway, what Lagos is doing is not strange, it's being done in the so called sane climes too.
