Edo Governorship Aspirant Engages Interpreter To Declare Ambition Before kinsmen.

An Edo State governorship aspirant, Asue Ighodalo, hired an interpreter to announce his intention to his kinsmen at a ward in Ewohimi, Esan South East Local Government Area of the state.

A video clip of the aspirant meeting with his kinsmen surfaced on the internet and other social media platforms on Sunday.

In the few seconds video, Ighodalo who is seeking the nomination of the Peoples Democratic Party, spoke in English Language, soliciting the support of the people while an interpreter translated to Esan Language.

Ighodalo said in the video, “I want us to stand as one. If we stand as one, the whole of Esan will take us seriously and we will be the pride of Edo State.

“I want everybody to go and register so that we can all vote as one body for the goodness and greatness of our land.

“You must have water, road, jobs and light. By the grace of Almighty, if we get this governorship, we will get everything, and Edo State will be the greatest state in Africa.”

The development, has, however, drawn divided opinions among netizens, with many criticising the engagement of an interpreter to talk to one’s kinsmen, even as they added that it’s a sign of age-long disconnect from the people.

“I bet, this is the first time he is coming home. He was brought by persons in the Government House. He does not even know the road to Ewohimi,” Divine Greatiess wrote on his Facebook page.

Others, however, came to Ighodalo’s defence saying local language would not bring investments, adding that the focus should be on the progress he can bring to the state.

“The official acceptable and most proficient language of communication in Edo is English. Stop the unnecessary brouhaha,”

The book "Stumbling on happiness" on my mind right now wink

The reality is that Edo is not monolingual so there may be no furore if a candidate turns out to be like LP's Chinedu in Lagos who can't speak Yoruba in a monolingual Lagos and had to get an interpreter during campaign too.

Asue and his siblings were born and raised in Ibadan where their parents lived, stayed and worked. They are Omo Ibadan.

Their late mum was Yoruba while their late Dad was Esan. If they were females married to Yoruba men, they could even aspire to be the Governor of Oyo state. It's the names of the boys that affiliated and restricted them as Edo, aside that, they could pass for a Yoruba family and seen as such by their Yoruba kith and kin.

Their late mum, a Yoruba woman, was particularly phenomenal and popular as well as a role model to many people in Ibadan so much that her name was a household name in Ibadan those days. Their late Dad was a Senior Staffer at the University of Ibadan.Check my signature for free stuffs!

Lol
His mission is dead on arrival
Like someone said, it's a sign of age-long disconnect from his people.
People like that feel because they are rich or educated, they no longer have any business with their kinsmen, until the day they'll be in dire need of something money can't easily. Because in politics no matter how much money you have to buy votes, you still have to go out and meet these people

This guy major problem is that his ugliness is not too pronounced. He has missed one of the major criteria of being a governor in Edo state.

If you've been to Ewohimi where this guy hails from, you may understand why he can't speak the language fluently and decide to employ an interpreter for clear communication.

Their own Metaphysical science na daytime them dey dance am o. Is either you belong or you are stewed. For the fact that he is successful means he nor get energy for science so na to run away.

Most Ewohimi christian are strong spiritually else they will use you to count scores.

Now, that's one unserious aspirant. He could, at the very least, have asked the hiree to teach him a few phrases instead of embarrassing himself.

Not knowing how to speak his language isn't supposed to be an issue after all those who can speak their language and knows every road in the state has done absolutely nothing to be voted again

I think it's a lesson for parents who are too blinded by foreign language. To some parents,it's an abomination to speak their dialect at home.

I am very sure the man together with his parents (if they are still alive) are regretting his inability to speak his dialect now. I trust Naija, they would use that to push his to the dustbin.

Adunni Ade, a Yoruba actress that she is not only half cast but also born in America, thank God for her ability to speak yoruba language, maybe she won't be a celebrity today.
