According to news reports, on Nov 24, 2023, Japanese multinational Pharma Co., Otsuka (listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange) broke ground on a $50m factory in Sagamu, Ogun State, to manufacture a product called Pocari Sweat (an “ION Supply Health Drink.”)

Said to be the first ION Supply Drink factory in Africa, will create over a thousand jobs; and ~80% of raw materials will be sourced locally.

Japanese and Indonesian Ambassadors to Nigeria attended the groundbreaking.

As part of its $50M (fifty million United States Dollars) business investment in Nigeria, Otsuka Nigeria Nutraceuticals Company (ONNC), a subsidiary of Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company Japan performed the ground-breaking ceremony for Pocari Sweat’s manufacturing factory in Sagamu, Ogun State Nigeria on 24th November 2023. Otsuka Pharmaceutical company, a publicly quoted business in Japan and one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in the world has been in business for 102 years.

Pocari Sweat is an ION Supply Health Drink, a high-quality product of Japanese science with a composition similar to the body fluid. It replenishes ions lost to sweat, rehydrates the body faster and hydrates the body for longer.

Ogun state is gradually becoming the industrial hub of Nigeria. Almost all conglomerates have their factory there. Thanks to proximity to Lagos.

Ogun is the most industrialized state in Nigeria after Lagos and Abuja, you will still see one factory Job to do in ogun if you have the skills.

Some people are boasting of having indigenous companies if not for the sake of not making too much noise even the number of Indigenous companies in Ogun state beat them.

If our politicians don’t treat us well, then why should Asians treat us well?

Are we not letting our politicians steal money from us instead of employing workers to do everything federal, state and local governments are supposed to do? Government services and utilities like free education, water etc?

Not that far fetched.

Lagos is congested and Ogun is close to Lagos and the ports .
While it does not have the infrastructure that Lagos has , it’s just some minutes away
