So even Paul was not sure if his Journey to the 3rd heaven was a physical experience or if it was his spirit. Yet he was humble enough to say, 'I don't know.'
He did not need to lie that the 3rd heaven was on earth or was a thing of the mind.

Now to some English class

From Paul's statement, it's clear that the 3rd heaven is a place outside your mind, and not a state of mind.
If it was a state of mind there wouldn't have been a need for him to talk about whether in or out of the body.
You do not go to a state of mind in or out of your body because your mind is within you.

To add to this, the extent of the condition of the thief heart and the plea to Jesus that he should be remembered in his kingdom can only be ascertained by the same Jesus who made the promise that the thief will be with him in Paradise
