Back in the days when selection of our national team players was strictly based on merit and patriotism. When there was no favoritism and nepotism. Then white is white and black is black. Nigerians loved themselves irrespective of where you come from. Till began falling apart when we acquired democracy thinking it was going to be better off but our evil leaders chose to be worse than the military leaders who we thought were evil.

Only God can help us in this country
Nigerians never loved themselves, dey play, football was just a means to forget misery momentarily. The rot started long time ago, when a section of the country was sworn not to be allowed to excel, if you mention the section, na u sabi

Great! Most of our players today are busy chasing money. I loved the profile of these men. You can imagine one of them rising to be come his state's AJ. These generation of players doesn't want to go to school. Education remains invaluable.

That degree will be needed someday and serve as a ticket to places where money can't place you. Same applies to all these musicians today. Tomorrow, the likes of Davido will become minister while the likes of tuface will be clapping for him.

The 1980's Eagles was almost dominated by players from Enugu Rangers International - Okalla, Chukwu, Isima, Atuegbu, Okpala and Onyedika. Adokie, was playing for Sharks of Port Harcourt. Adiele was in Spartans Owerri. Odegbami, Owolabi, Ogedengbe, Lawal, Bamidele were in IICC shooting stars. Ikhana was in Bendel Insurance. I don't know where Nwosu was playing, New Nigerian Bank?

Nostalgic.

But at no time do the National Stadium at Surulere had 85,000 as Spectators.

Paragraph 6. Should be revised.

Great team comprises the likes of "Quick Sliver" - Emmanuel Okala and the "mathematical" Segun Odegbami. But the 1994 crop of the Super Eagles and the cracks squad of Atlanta 1996 Olympics are the most memorable senior national team Nigeria has ever produce

"Quick Silver" is Sylvanus Okpala

O lord you can heal anyone. Heal the land. If i am your servant, lead us not into temptation.

O lord give me the power, mantle, to liberate Nigeria into a Smart Nation.

O lord in your kingdom let it be done on earth.

You mean Charles Okonkwo ( aka Charlie Parker)? He was later invited to join Eagles alongside Ademola Adesina.

You lived at Amaobia Street, where Amaobia Girls ( 2 storeys Hardcore Brothel hotel) was located?

Football players have always chased money. Or why did the late Pele of blessed memory move to the US to play football? Money. The man even stated it in his autobiography.

Yes, there is a lot of greed and yes, footballers earn obscene salaries. But in the good old days, many footballers used to earn very scanty salaries. If not for years of legal fighting, they would have still been earning low salaries even in Europe.

Former Nigerian footballers when they retired, some of them fell on hard times. The younger generation saw, and took counsel.

Oga, you are a very little child. A very little child. cheesy

Merit and patroitism my foot. grin

Infact under army rule, that was when we started having cabals and cliques in the Super eagles....to the point that they were selecting the team, and hiring bodyguards, and so forth...

As for daily life, tribalisim, nepotism and so forth has been a part of Nigerian life since independence. That;s why we ended up with federal character commission in the late 1980's, because too many complaints of nepotism. That is why Biafra collapsed, because the Igbos began mistreating minority tribes, to the point that many of them started thinking that a united Nigeria was better for them. That is why we ended up with Middle Belt vs Far north since around the 1970's, intensifying around the 1980's....

Infact the same old nepotism and corruption and company have been there for decades.

Like common entrance. Think that the whole North vs South cut off points wahala started in 2010? LOL...it was there even in the 1980;.s..... Indeed some of us Southerners were told even in primary school that we had to work our asses off to enter universites of our choice outside our state of origin...lol.

Better not make me laugh. I am angry and dissapointed with our democratic rulers...they haven't made things much better, but army rule....if you went back in a time machine, spent some time, and came back you will be saying Nigeria the same yesterday, today and forever... cheesy

I learnt that they needed a draw in Lagos against Tunisia to be in the 1978 world cup but Godwin Odiye's own goal ended their world cup dream

Please dear Daddy and Mommy, forgive me for bringing this here. am doing this because av run out of options and I don't have any other choice. My name is Kelly, I give birth to my boy Ayomi 2 years ago and since then it has been a rollercoaster of one event to another. My fiance abandoned us and I move in back with my parents taking care of my son all alone without any assistance even though he was always falling very sick all the time. I notice that he always feels discomfort when his trying to breath so I looked for money to take my son to the hospital. He was diagnosed with congenital heart defect, a hole in his heart, as the cause of his breathing problems. I've cried my eyes out but if only crying can solve problem. I can't stand to see my child in pain.

I've gone almost everywhere I can possibly go but no hope except for hospital. Doctors say that he will need to undergo surgery at UCH for N4.5million and my family with the help of some very kind hearted people have been able to raise part of N3 million. We have sold off almost everything valuable to us but it's not yet enough, that why I am appealing to well meaning Nigerians, if you're touched to save my son's life, please find it in your kind heart to extend a hand of help to him. Nothing is too small in the sight of God. Please am also calling upon any NGO that can accept my sons condition please. May God almighty bless you immensely and wipe away sorrow from your eye. Amen.
