It will be be better if we actually have Nigerians building these business. I wonder what the craze about foreign investors all about when they are all gonna take the dollars out to the parents companies anyways. Mtn moved over 1billions dollars last year despite the country suffering one of the biggest FX shortages in history. They all just pretty much establish assembly factories without adding any value to local supply chain for raw materials. Imagine establishing tomato paste plant in Nigeria only to be importing tomatoes from Cameroon instead of investing in local farmers to plant more tomatoes for your plant. A Nigerian that will get most of the raw materials for his industry from locals should be the one running the economy. Imagine the like of gsk and p&g quitting because they couldn't compete with importation. Isn't that madness? If your drugs are cheaper than imported one, won't people buy them? They want government to ban importation of drugs so they can control the price through some lousy drug manufacturers unions. |

opamoses1:Actually If FG increase taxation or even ban importation like Buhari did previously Cost of the product will be higher for the consumers because demand will be more than supply The key factor is that APC due to poor Economic policies since 2015 have reduced the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians The Government should find solution to the Economic situation they created The truth also is that if they don't find solution Present dire Economic problems will continue getting worse till next election Then Nigerians will have no other choice Of voting out APC So FG have a very big problem before them till 2027 Time is ticking |

Racoon:An intelligent investor will put his money in Nigeria; the trick is to invest in an industry that requires low foreign input, such as low-scale mining, agriculture and software engineering. The labour cost is low, and the returns are very high if the product is export-orientated. You can employ five university graduates for as little as $10000. |

Regardless, I know Nigeria will be great one day. The doggedness, can do and the never-say-die attitude and spirit of her people will not let her fail. Some will go, others will come. The foundation is being set and a new generation is rising that will bring these things to pass |

Evil is evil, either it's coming from your brother or a stranger. Same with goodness, it's the same either from a stranger or a brother. Voting Tinubu not because of his competence, but of his ethnic affiliation will not exempt his voters from the systematic suffering therein. Agbadorians layed their bed, oya, please lie on it. |

opamoses1:What has the same government done about the brave business owners doing local production in Nigeria? What are the parameters required for an average business to thrive in a country? Is there efficient and reliable electricity which is the lifeblood of any business? What have the government done about unifying Taxes for companies instead of the multiplicity of taxes they are painfully subjected to? Can we confidently say there is reliable security in Nigeria? Let's even get to the importation that you want to stop! Is your phone made in Nigeria? Is it not imported? Are any of your equipments locally produced? The government and leaders whom you are even defending are the biggest importers! They import mostly cars when we have local car manufacturers! If you are intent on the government stopping importation, where are the locally made alternatives? |
| Re: Why Investors Are Running Away From Nigeria — Peter Obi by sulaak(m): 4:05pm On Dec 08, 2023 |
IgOga:P & G has always been an importer; the majority of these so-called FMCG products are entirely dependent on imports. It is cheaper to import into Nigeria than waste funds production when all the local supply chain is aboard. |

They are running away because it is too uncertain, very volatile, and lacks trust. Just to name a few. Right now na currency dealing with Nigeria and other countries dey rain. You buy dollar low, convert to naira when high, then cash out, and rebuy dollar low. That's 20k to 200k depending on what you put in. Nowadays, they have made it a frequent cycle. |
