I don't think you need to worry too much about this. I think you must just include as much evidence as possible that the relationship is genuine and legal. You can also include an LOE as the reason why your parent couldn't attend the wedding. Worst case scenario is that you will be called for an interview, which I doubt. Goodluck.

Hi everyone, I need some good advice.
I am a Canadian citizen who relocated back to Nigeria in December 2022 and I started a relationship January this year.
We got married in September and currently about to apply for spousal sponsorship.
I am staying in Nigeria until the sponsorship is approved although we are also planning to apply for trv after we get AOR for the spousal sponsorship.

I am going through the forms now and I am in some kind of a dilemna ... I found out in form imm5532e that I am supposed to indicate if my parents(sponsor) attended the wedding.
Due to some differences and misunderstanding, my parents did not attend the wedding (they were not in support) but my wifes parents were in attendance and fully supported the wedding.

Can someone who has some experience about this educate me on how to handle this area ? I am a little worried that stating that my parents did not attend the wedding will be a red flag and I am not sure how to handle that.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your reassurance. Including ample evidence and a Letter of Explanation (LOE) to clarify the genuine and legal nature of the relationship is indeed a good approach. While the chance of an interview seems unlikely, I appreciate your well wishes. As for a wedding gift suggestion, perhaps consider a thoughtful and sentimental item or an experience that resonates with the couple's interests. It adds a personal touch to the celebration. Best of luck!

No. You are eligible to sponsor someone if you were not sponsored to get a PR. However if u were sponsored it takes 5 years to get eligibility.

There is nothing like that. You can sponsor your spouse almost immediately you become a PR, provided you didn't get your PR through Spousal Sponsorship in the last 5 years. Although to sponsor a spouse or dependant, you will need to prove that you have a source of income, so you need to have a job first. If you have a job, please put in your spouse application. Goodluck!!.

You must not necessarily have a job. Just show you have means of staying alive!

Hi any update?

Makibarbie:
I learnt they refused someone whose spouse is a PR at niagrafall border and asked her to wait for ircc to complete her online application but i am not sure if she applied online for the work permit and still went to flagpole. But another person of this same situation was approved. I think it depends on the border officer. As for me, i am going to flagpole but after my medical appointment, once that is done, i will head to the border to try my luck.

Good day, I am a new Canadian PR. I want to go for the spousal sponsorship but i heard i need to have spent a year minimum as PR before i can initiate spousal sponsorship at all. I would love to confirm this.

The one year minimum refers to getting tax filing document to use for the application (Notice of Assessment or Tax Income statement). You don't need to wait to file tax as you can use proof of income (bank statement) if you have lots of funds available (best to be combined with a job).

If you are new couple (meaning your spouse was not included in your initial PR application), I will advise you to wait till after you filed your tax next year or go ahead with showing other proof that you can take care of yourself and spouse (to be sponsored = bank statement+job and payslips).

For me, I waited till after I filed tax as I was newly married (the time space also allowed me to travel back home to see my spouse=relationship evidence (boarding pass, passport stamps).

Key point: look at your options and go with the one that provide more documents/proof for your SS application.

Hello everyone
Happy new year
I am a PR and i want to apply for spousal open work permit for my spouse.

The idea is to apply for the spousal open work permit pending the time the spousal sponsorship gets approved

Does my spouse need to be living in canada before the spousal open work permit application can be made ?

Any help on this will be highly appreciated
Re: Canada Spouse Family Sponsorship Visa/appeal Process by 11elleo: 9:34pm On Jan 02
yes your spouse should be living with you in canada. You should try to apply for visit visa since it is easier now for spouses in the process of spousal sponsorship. then when your spouse arrives then you can apply for the work permit

Happy prosperous 2024 everyone! Please guide me. Application submitted May 28 2023 and was returned July 11 and got it resubmitted july 13. AOR Sep 14, BIL Sep 20, SA sep 25, MIL December 12. I had my medical December 18 2023 and i called IOM yesterday Jan 3 2024 for my medical results, i was told it was mailed to IRCC same yesterday but checking my tracker i saw a ghost update but the result wasn’t updated as pass yet. I had an elevated BP of 163 which as a result i was graded B and the other results i had A grading. Do i need to be worried about my bp being high? when will IRCC update my result on my tracker? What is the next thing after medical? God bless you all! Your swift responses will be highly appreciated!!!
Re: Canada Spouse Family Sponsorship Visa/appeal Process by 11elleo: 3:16pm On Jan 04
no need to worry unless you are requested to do further exams. Medical usually takes between 1-4 weeks to be updated as passed. after that if you are in accra office, it can take between 1-3 months for the process to finish and receive passport request, some people wait longer.

Good day house,
Please has anyone experienced this yet? COPR's have been generated since Dec 11 2023 as shown on the tracker, but no PPR letter yet. Should I be worried? I have sent webform and emails but still nothing.

Re: Canada Spouse Family Sponsorship Visa/appeal Process by 11elleo: 4:52pm On Jan 04
they are very slow and there is a lot of backlog with stamping passports since october, they are clearing this now in this week. considering the holiday as well, you should try to be calm and probably within this month of january, it will happen.
