Nigeria Police dismiss special constabularies who attempted to extort Dutch tourist

The Nigeria police have dismissed two special constabularies for demanding money from a Dutch power bike cyclist.

Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola pronounced their dismissal at the state’s Police Headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan.

The two special constabularies, Jimoh Lukmon and Kareem Fatai, who were on duty along Moniya-Iseyin road were seen in a viral video demanding money from the tourist who told them she was en route to Abuja.

But this dismissal is just to please the international community since the case involves a foreigner. Nigerians, on daily basis, suffer worse than that in the hands of the Nigerian police officers. The NPF pretends to not know the alarming rate of extortion by the officers at every checkpoint. Aiding and abating.

Someone said, "Na who dem catch be thief". Their modus operandi is, "Stealing is allowed, but getting caught is a crime".

Why nah? Am sure it worth sack, I didn't blived this new!

Going by standards and performance, the entire NPF needs to be disbanded and re-hiring should follow strict guidelines, with graduates included in the hiring process

Nonsense. Why will they be dismissed?.... The ones that have killed people and termed it accidental discharge, not all have been dismissed. The Apo 6 that happened years ago, nothing happened.... Nonsense people. They should call them back , they didn't kill anyone. The bambiala wasn't an aggressive one... So, why then will they dismiss them...
By the way we as Nigerians have been complaining about how these police guys extort drivers. But nothing much, just because they're Nigerians. But e reach Oyibo turn and they sacked them

You see, this is why I get problem with us in the south. If this happen in the North the police officers won't be dismissed. It is embarrassing indeed but there are other punishments which can be metted on them.

So will they still be hiring them from the current Nigerian population? Or will they be hiring people from outside the country who are not Nigerians?
The reason for the dumb questions is that - if they hire from this current crop of Nigerians regardless of education and orientation, they will still be corrupt if not worse.

I always laugh when a typical Nigerian knows that he or she is corrupt, her society is corrupt, and the family members are potential thieves if given the opportunity but they still turn around and expect their police, politicians, and other institutions to be corruption free. How is that possible?
Your institutions are a reflection of your society. corrupt society produces corrupt politicians, civil servants, politicians, mechanics, tailors, and the list goes on and on.

Until a vast majority of our society is ethical and moral, you will continue to have bad eggs like these.

I watched the video and was ashamed for the two. Dem no even use better English ask for the money. It’s unfortunate they lost their job now in this trying time

They should set up undercover agents to catch police that demand money from time to time .

They are many in the system, making scape goat of one or two without strong monitoring will not improve anything. It should be total monitoring and follow up. There are thousands of them collecting bribe and money on the road till now.
