Even before and after this period, people still travel for their businesses. These companies usually lay out buses for these trips from other parks in the North to take care of this surge. They can never run empty. Their only condition is that the FG should honour their agreement so they can slash the prices and you're here defending the scamming of Nigerians.

This people self... You attended a meeting where price slash was discussed. You refused to discuss modality, how the balance with be paid. You are expecting government to pay you in advance. How will the government know how many people will patronize you.

Even private companies don't pay their vendor immediately not to talk of government. If you are not okay with the government terms of payment, reject immediately and you will be excluded from the list.

You accepted in the meeting, your transport company is shortlisted for people to use and you are complaining govt have not paid you first.

Because capitalism is the only way to motivate large scale productivity. Human beings are greedy as eff. You have to let them make money, and the government provides a legal framework to allow them make money safely.

Socialism was tried in the USSR, Eastern Europe, Cuba, China and some other countries. Today, most of them are heavily in debt, or capitalist. And the USSR and many former socialist countries collapsed because it costs too much money to maintain a socialist economy.

Meanwhile , a proper capitalist economy with a socialist government provides opportunites for the government to get enough tax revenue, which it can use to make things better.

Nigeria is a poor country because at the end , we rely on one source of income, and then we try to run socialist programmes that cost more per annum than that one source of income can yiled. Cue debts.

Subsidy might work, just that corruption must be tackled..

Like now, look at subsidising fuel. Assuming Tinubu wants to bring subsidy and subsidise fuel to N300 per liter....

1.He has to determine how much fuel would be consumed in 2024, which is basically impossible to do

2.Has to find the extra money...which on top of high debts, loans and low income from oyel is impossible to do. And which is going to worsen our defcit if he takes it from other parts of the 2024 budget. (There is a cold reason why IBB, Abacha, Obj, GEJ and Buhari ..or their financial advisers...all wanted subsides gone...).

A sane government would let the petrol sector run free of subsides, and by the same time collect tax from them. Which is what the UK does, for example.

Yes we are good...but even then, your average medical student still has to buy textbooks, and equipment because subsidy on education means fees are too low for the universites to buy them. Hostels are shitholes, the faculty buildings are worn out, and the wards are a mess.

Yes, we good, because we have to rely more on clinical skills than the average European doctor.

I don't like the idea of removing education subsides, but in the future, universities may have to be freed to set their prices. In fees. Our education sector is suffering badly. We may not even have enough to keep on producing fine doctors, nurses, and pharmacists anymore.

All these passengers forget to know that; free things are not good and good things are not free.

Airline business is very different from road transport business because they are scheduled and well regulated. However, they still can never run at a loss on return trips. The reason is because airlines schedule trips on daily projections for each airplane. What they lose in going, they cover up for it in return. However, this is not for road transport companies that are not well regulated. This is why Tinubu's 50% reduction can't accommodate airlines. So stop comparing the two. My point generally is that this government was hasty in announcing a poorly planned program or maybe there was literally no plan for it. No feasibility studies carried out. They only announced it to gather cheap accolades just as they did with the students loans, Ghost foreign investors, Dubai visa clearance and soon the PH and Dangote refineries. It's very bad for a government to keep announcing execution of policies before actually planning the programs. It shows how unprepared they are and how much they don't rate their citizens. Seem Mr President always forget he is in Nigeria... Anyway I think they should have just had designated stations along the road to supply diesel or petrol to the transporter and give them a voucher ... At least if you cover the fuel cost , they would use the balance to maintain their vehicles and you can monitor the activities that they were at those stations with CCTV or put DPR(their new name is long) staffs on supervisory role .

I just checked GIG website, they've commenced the 50% reduction nationwide.

But it seems they're the only company that are organized and serious about this government scheme.
