A40:Birthrate, number of birth per household, early marriage/ birthing, near absence of family planning and polygamy! These factors are not comparable to the south. Truth is, population in the north has been weaponized. |

Roland17:Who is calculating and measuring these rates and supposed births per household? Why are we pretending like census figures have not been in dispute since the days of Tafawa Balewa. This is not new phenomenon and census figures have been routinely rejected in the past. If we ask for a proper census today everyone knows the people and region that will reject said census. When people say polygamy I chuckle. What is the ratio of women to men? If a man has 3-4 wives that means 3 other men have to use Jergens cos no woman for them. A lot of these places sef there are more men than women so you have a trailer load of men that don't reproduce. The only thing polygamy guarantees is that there will not be enough women to go round ![]() |

A40:I am not so much referencing the history or data available even though those will support my argument. I am talking mostly about lifestyle, culture and religion and how it affects population when there is a comparison between the North and the South. The factors I mentioned are immensely consequential to population distribution across the different regions in Nigeria. Can a legitimate argument be made that the numbers are exaggerated? Yes, I believe so but you can’t claim the South compares to the North in terms of those factors which invariably affects census. A lot of people here served, lived or are still living in the North and they can testify. This isn’t about land mass or arable lands, this is about factors that has continued affects population distribution in Nigeria. I have not even added illiteracy and high perinatal mortality in the North and how it triggers increased child birth. These factors are intentionally weaponized for political purposes by the North. I mean, how often have we seen children involved in early voting? During campaigns to the North, we see the turnout rates when compared to the South. |

Roland17:https://nationalpopulation.gov.ng/census-enumeration Kindly peruse this link. Mind you not a single factor you listed there is unique to Northern Nigeria btw. But I will unlook that one. You also realize high perinatal mortality dey one side, maternal mortality also na Siamese twin of it. E get why them dey gather child voters come election. Campaigns lol? Wetin consign average Southerner with campaign? You will leave your spare parts shop in ASPAMDA because of one lamba politican on a work day afternoon? |

Roland17:Boss. We do not have the faintest data to have any idea what the population looks like in the north. The data is neither robust or updated enough. More energy is used down south. More cashflow. The economy of this nation is basically south. The south is closer to the sea. Honestly? How? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 7:45pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
liveLongNprospa:You are raising a vastly different aspect of debate that I agree with. If we are speaking of economic viability, without any doubt, the South, especially when you consider our main resource is in the South. I am not buying the oil discovery cap the North is selling. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by A40(m): 7:55pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
liveLongNprospa:All I've been saying. There's not a single metric that supports it. That's why I asked why Nigeria is such the outlier. There's literally no other country in the world this exists |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 7:55pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
A40:I was intentional when I mentioned high perinatal mortality because the consequence is actually inverse. Also, while those factors are not unique to the North, they are not comparable. I have attached a screen shot of a study that was conducted in 2003 by the DHS, review it, particularly the mean size of household.

This was financial times in 2016. Women in Northern Nigeria are averaging more than 7 babies per woman, is that comparable to the South in the same 2016? In 2023, tell me how many households in the South are having more than 7 babies per woman when compared to the North, also consider that the North are more polygamous than the rest of the country. Also, in comparison to the South, what is the prevalence of mid teenage, not talking about just teenage bare in mind teenage age is 13-18.

Roland17:So what actual data then supports the notion that the north has more people? Like an actual robust and current data from the northern region. Please this doesn't include the Middle-belt |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 8:56pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
liveLongNprospa:As far as national data, the data available through the NPC supports my argument, even though I openly admitted the numbers may be exaggerated. It is open knowledge that there is a dearth in record and data in Nigeria but we can only rely on what is available and experience. I have also presented data available from independent/ foreign peer reviewed research studies and reports and they absolutely support my argument that mid teenage marriage, polygamy, near absence of family planning, poverty, illiteracy in the North are consequential factors that affect the disparity in birth rate and population distribution when compared to the South. You guys have not shown anything to prove otherwise. |

| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by liveLongNprospa(m): 9:13pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
Roland17:The data from the NPC is also doubted by you. The reason I asked for robust data is because if the NPC of a country has inaccurate data, how is the little data with small sample size supposed to tell a different story? Our own data is simple. Oil is down south. Energy consumption is higher down south. Jobs are more down south. South is closer to the sea. I don't want to talk about migration that has occurred to the south over the years. The economy is basically in the south. So again.. How is it possible that the north has the population when all these things are easily verifiable points. How is it that our own case is so peculiar? |

Amoto94:You never bombard here with posts about the killings in the middle-belt like you do for gaza.. Why is that? |

liveLongNprospa:What's stopping you from doing so? |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 9:17pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
Amoto94:I said it before, I will entertain an argument that the numbers are inflated but to argue it is flat out untrue will be lying, especially when predisposing factors that affect birth rate favor the North in comparison to the South. |

liveLongNprospa:You are missing the point and arguing a totally different aspect. How many northerners in comparison to southerners leave their region to permanently reside in other regions? How many northers are in preaching the Japa gospel? I live in the US and I can tell you for free that I have only met 1 northerner in my entire time here.. worsestill, he returned home to Jigawa after his studies where he is practicing medicine. But I can’t count the number of southerners I have met in the US and my travels. You have not shown me any peer reviewed research, studies or report that disagrees with my position. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by liveLongNprospa(m): 9:26pm On Dec 26, 2023 |
Roland17:I'm not. My point from the very beginning has been consistent. How do these things be in one region and then the opposite region has the most population. Again let's not add the middle-belt region to the north. |

Roland17: Again show me any other country on earth that has this division and yet the region with none of these has the most population. Don't forget I am asking you to remove the middle-belt oo |

liveLongNprospa:You are clutching on a string not even straws. Why should I show any other country, are the entire dynamics the same? Am I debating another country with you? I am talking about my country of birth that we are both familiar with here. Remove middle belt and add it to the south right? Infact, for the sake of argument, isolate the middle belt.. Show me any peer reviewed research, study, report that shows any or a combination of the following. I have told you I will be open to PM News, Gistlover and Linda Ikeji at this point. Let them show me conclusive evidence That women in the south average MORE THAN 7 babies/ woman in their lifetime when compared to the North. That the south has more mid teenage (age 15) birth rates than the north. That shows the south has higher rates of polygamy than the north. That shows the south has higher household members than the North That shows the north trumps the south in permanent migration or movement of its people in comparison to the south. |

Roland17:Well, you have a point sha. |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by raumdeuter: 2:06am On Dec 27, 2023 |
Roland17:Which was the point i made too. by age 18 an average NW and NE woman is on her 3rd child while her counterpart in the South is still sneaking to see BF which her parents dare not know anything about. An 18yr old girl having BF in South is called wayward, an 18yr old not on at least 2 kids in the North is called "barren" In Bauchi I saw an 18yr old who has been divorced twice and dropped kids at both husband houses. I am sure she remarried and dropped further kids There is obviously a direct correlation between poverty and number of children(Even in the South). So if the North is poorer it makes sense they will give birth to more number of children |
| Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by Roland17(m): 2:29am On Dec 27, 2023*. Modified: 3:13am On Dec 27, 2023 |
raumdeuter:Absolutely! Illiteracy, poverty and high prenatal mortality rates are some I have highlighted. Infact, higher prenatal mortality rates in poorer regions trigger higher desires to birth more, it is an inverse situation. Fertility rates and use of contraceptives are other factor that push this disparity. Take a look at the attached pic from another publication (2018) I reviewed. Compare the number of women who are actively using a form of contraceptive in the Northern states to the South, it is not even close. We all understand the consequence of going raw abi? I saw another study that reviewed fertility rates across the country and while there is a National drop, the drop in Southern states is very steep in comparison to Northern states.
