There are some important things about our health we are oblivious about in this Nigeria. I think it was in 2022 a doctor told me that once an adult male crosses the 40-age mark, his chances of having prostate cancer is high and as such every man is advised to regularly check their PSA level to detect prostate cancer early so that it can be well managed before it degenerates.

There are so many people both educated and uneducated who don't even know this.

The healthcare system in Naija is wretched.
Here when a woman turns 50 she gets a notification for breast cancer screening through the government. This is done every 2 years, unless your risk is higher in which case it might be more frequent.

At age 50yrs everybody gets a notification for bowel cancer screening through the government.

The Prostate thing is still a grey area here and is left to the doctor and patient to decide, but in a high risk area like Naija that 40yr cutoff seems reasonable. There might be some local guidelines in Nigeria about it.

Cervical cancer is one cancer that a clear link has been demonstrated between early detection and good outcome but I don’t think there is an effective screening programme in Nigeria. Anybody with female friends and family should ask them to go for the test. It used to be Pap smear but there is a newer and more effective one called HPV test now. It literally saves lives.

That guy must be capping. Semovita is made from wheat and wheat has numerous health benefits. Imagine telling diabetics patient to avoid semo when wheat is very good for them. Overweight people should even be eating wheat bread and not the normal bread.

Well, I'm not a food scientist or nutritionist, but I know Semo is not just wheat. I know Semo has been processed and may include all these preservatives that are not 100% healthy.

I don't think any doctor will recommend Semo for a diabetic; rather they will recommend plantain flour.

All processed foods has preservatives so it's not unique to only Semo. Semovita is at least 90% of wheat so that nigga is just capping nonsense.

The diet many diabetics are placed on in Nigeria is often times too restrictive.

Diabetics can have whole wheat and grains. What they should avoid are those refined sugars, white bread, soda drinks.
The aim should be more about having a balanced diet with foods in moderation, especially carbs and fats, not totally avoiding so many foods and making life unpalatable for the poor soul.

I'm guessing the reason they do that is because they are aware of our lifestyle choices in Nigeria. U know in Nigeria most people do not engage in activities that will help break down their body sugar and all. So maybe they just tell u to avoid those things knowing fully well u won't eat balanced diet and ur lifestyle choices are poor.

I don't know for sure sha

Yeah Nigerians don’t have a gym or exercise culture. We also don’t eat in moderation. One man will attack a mountain of amala so high he can’t see across the table.

Exercise is really important. Healthy diet and exercise in combination trump either one alone.

The doctor is absolutely right. Every man who hits 40 is able to go for prostrate screening, some doctors say 45 but I know over here you can get screened at 40.

If you are not up to 40, make sure you send your father and any first line male relative (your father’s blood brothers) for prostrate screening because it may save you. The probability of developing prostrate cancer if a parent or first blood line male relative is positive is quite high. The sad part is that it can stay hidden.

I did for my dad and his brothers few years ago and I thank God all came out negative.

Hmmm... Na wa o, las las we come this world to die ni.

I was going to ask if Leukamia wasn't treatable cos I remember Carl Ikeme had it and survived after Chemo and all.....But I guess u already answered my question with the talks about Genetics & some of these things being multifactorial.

I think it also helps if it's detected early. Ikeme being a footballer where they do medical checks frequently will likely catch it earlier than just a man waiting to be sick before he goes to see a doctor by that time the disease go don spread

Actually a very dumb take since you make money by selling cocaine not holding on to it. Unless the slow thinker is telling PBat to sell Nigerians to the highest bidder.

That's true. To buttress ur point, I remember at the early stage of Akeredolu's illness there was a viral voice note of the first lady warning a particular woman leader to stop bringing herbal concoction for her husband. She accused the woman of being demonic and all.

So I guess initially the illness was being treated as a spiritual one(being Africans that we are) rather than a major medical issue

I'd take it you missed the joke, drug peddlers don't joke with their cocaine (the bag).

Posterity will be kind to Akeredolu for his role in ensuring Amotekun came on board to checkmate the menace of Fulani herdsmen at a time Buhari and FG decided to play blind and dumb to their atrocities in Yoruba land.

Aketi redeemed himself in my estimation with how he championed the Amotekun. Yoruba history will be kind to him. He started a good thing and I hope other governors can follow through with it

Yeah, I think only him and Makinde championed the Amotekun course before other governors started keying into it. It was understandable that Lagos already had LNSC tho.

He may not be perfect, but he tried for that one.

I don witness person come down from his venza , bring out pistol, shoot one area boy for leg and whisked the guy way at Ikeja along bus stop . It all happened within twinkle of an eye.

I’m guessing the man is either a DSS official or a military guy on mufti .

It was that day I know that dead body go surplus if guns become legal in naija
