Benin City Due To Have Flyovers by Uglyjuly(op): 1:40pm On Dec 27, 2023
I am currently spending my Yuletide holiday in Benin City, capital of Edo state. Having grew up here in the late 90’s and early 2000’ it is more of a call to those in the helm of affairs to start the plan and bring to live FLYOVERS in the city metropolis.

The following are my reasons:
1. The population of Benin City have drastically increased within the past years. Flyovers will help to improve movement of populace.

2. The number of vehicles in the state capital have also increased to a large extent.

3. Roundabouts are now old fashioned in the look of things. The roundabout are no longer effective as before.

The areas where these flyovers should be situated (not limited to) are.
1. Adesuwa Road Junction off Sapele Road
2. Third East Circular Junction/bus stop
3. Akpakpava Road by Second junction
4. Ramat Part
5. Ring Road/King Square.

Please this should be an agenda or major project for the new elected government in 2024.

Please add and share your thoughts on this.
Thank you

I have been living in Benin for two years now..
I think the city needs more of roads than flyovers. Apart from the major roads, majority of which Oshiomole built, the city is marked by bad roads in greater parts of it.

I have been wondering if governments had been working here.

The city is living below it's name

101 % correct, Edo needs a lot of fixing of its internal road network and not fly overs for now.

Flyover is not a measure of success. It is usually a waste of public funds. One was built in Ilorin while i was schooling there. A monumental waste of funds. Can you provide google map traffic data of those places mentioned during rush hourshuh

But would you believe that there are Nairalanders who say Nigeria is better designed than European countries; Nigerians are wealthier than Westerners and Nigerians are very intelligent people. grin

Left to me, we should hand-over the management of Nigeria in its entirety to East Asians for a century. They run everything from A - Z. I would have suggested a metro system connecting Benin to Asaba and Onitsha, then feeder bus systems to various bus stops. But a metro system within Benin or Edo itself is not feasible because the state is too poor to undertake such. Even at that, are the connecting roads leading to inner communities well-tarred? Not the major roads, but those which connect to the major roads?

Hand over the country to East Asians abeg!

We don't need flyovers in Benin City, it's a waste of funds. Rather, we should champion the cause for more good roads.

Just like you predicted two years ago, the governor has flagged off the projects for a fly over @ Ramat Park and a new one @ Sapele Road by adesuwa junctions. I hope they compensate you for this your foresight.
Thank you
