I'm watching star wars. My favorite movie is Star Wars The Force Awakens. It was the greatest part of star wars for me because of Harrison Ford. I liked his acting and character very much. Moreover, I was amazed by the Proffie lightsabers used by the characters. This is what makes this movie more exciting and phenomenal.

Saltburn 2023

Trigger warning : don’t watch while eating or after a meal.
I didn’t think much could surprise me after watching the peach scene in call me be your name, 2017 but this was a discovery. It tested the limits of my imagination.

I can’t even rate because I am unsure what to rate it.
People who are "screaming" that "Saltburn" is weird or "Make sure you are not eating when seeing it" probably need to see more movies because it isn't even a Top 20 weird movie material if that kind of list is ever made.

I went in waiting to see all the hype on how disturbing it was only to find out, it is a pretty straightforward "normal" movie to an average cinephile and that left me a bit disappointed.

This kind of spam post amazes me, like what's your affinity with lightsabers?? It's 2024, better go and learn a new format and retire this dead one.

All the people that have been screaming , don’t eat while watching , proceeds to quote the only post saying such (which was made days ago, dedicated the time to find it)
But it’s not a dig.

Gaslighting much?

My last mention of this btw , generally I have a rule of ignoring quotes from here because it’s always an ego wielding contest with you lot

i can't figured out why you are this pained cuz you posted on a public forum and i simply commented on yours because it was the first one i saw and it was a personal feeling and you took it personal.

And i dedicated the time to find it? Really? Because i live and breathe for your post? I personally looked for your moniker and this specific post just so i can spite you? Like you are owning me money or what?.

Zero logic and in all honesty, a dunce move, in posting here and ignoring quotes because it means the idea of a public forum is totally lost on you, and if you can't take a contrary opinion or at least bring points to counter, you are better off not posting here at all.

If my comments seemed like an "ego welding contest to you" then i must say your ego is as fragile as an egg shell and that's why comments on a faceless forum can get to you this easily.

And lastly and most importantly, it's too early in the year to be this sassy...fix up.

A24 moving to the mainstream...
Picking up Alex Garland is a major boost. Director of 28 Days Later, Annihilation and Ex Machina sure slaps.

MAESTRO....7.9/10

An adaptation about the life of Jewish-American conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein and the relationship with his wife Felicia Monteleagre.
It felt kinda boring at some point but the acting performances of the main cast was more than enough to still keep you watching and elevated the movie. Great opera and orchestra music. Nice score and overall good writing.

Surely Bradley Cooper is in the running for a Best Actor nomination on all the major awards. My favourite actor and character would have to be Carey Mulligan. Premium class act age delivered in this film and she should be in the running for Best Actress.

Was it a resounding Best Picture contender? I think not, but it's more than enough to land a nomination. And it's a successful sophomore at the directorial chair for Bradley Cooper.
I very much enjoy the superiority of "TAR" and Cate Blanchett's performance in recent adaptations about conductors.

I prefer Cooper's acting and directorial debut in "A Star is Born" more. It's a masterpiece for me till this day and my favourite work of his.

The Killer (2023) - 45%

The movie felt like I was reading an assassin's journal, yet it still managed to be absolutely dull. This shambles of a film has no true plot, and much of the runtime is wasted on scenes that add nothing to the overall storyline. I usually watch these kind of movies for the action sequences because I don't anticipate much from the plot, but this crap doesn't deliver on either front. An irredeemable mess.

Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One (2023) - 75%

Generic but still nicely done, I will definitely come back to see how it ends.

If you are a book reader checkout The Hunter by Tom Wood, it is book one of a series and achieves everything you would want from an assassin thriller.

Omo, na premium suffer be dis sha... Been in the theatre for 2 hours now and I still dey wait for movie Showtime. My screening for Aquaman 2 is at 8:25pm at VIVA Cinema.

With the way I take rush comot for house to beat traffic and get there in time to get tickets before 5:40pm no be here. E pain me sha. Only to see the Google showtimes are grossly inaccurate.

Had no choice than to lurk around the mall and go get food. Still e no reach to kill off 3hours of waiting.
Had the option of moving down to Silverbird Cinemas but I no get strength for waka waka.
This is just a painful stress for many ppl.

Kinda noticed many Nigerians opting for the local Nollywood movies like "Malaika" and "A Tribe Called Judah". Glad to see we are still patronising our industry enmasse. It's kinda evident with them getting the better showtimes. Heard one of the local movies had hit #1bn naira in box office.
E be like na only me go see Aquaman sha. 🙃🙃

I see.
Wondering if it's record setting gross is mostly due to inflation and the weakened currency.
Cos beating The Wedding Party 2 and the likes is no mean feat and by a huge mile and we still dey cinema season with more legs to go.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.....7/10

It's a very enjoyable movie with copious dose of comedy. I didn't find it too unoriginal as I laughed at many of them. Momoa rightly seemed to still be in his "Fast X" persona. Seems ripe for Lobo.
Not better than the first but promises almost as much visual splendor and more Atlantean lore. The film basically embraced it's comic book-y roots of ludicrous fun and I loved it for that. It's a movie that doesn't take itself too seriously.

My only gripe with it was that it was too easy at first for David Kane and there were not much bigger stakes at the end despite the tease of big retributions. Still, an enjoyable and fun ride for a superhero fare. Would have loved the darker turn in the comics tho.

Gorgeous cinematography and visuals. Nice sound editing. Perfect costumes and make-up.

The few ladies inside the cinema hall with me had a very good laugh throughout. They made me enjoy it more as the laughter was contagious.

Not an outright bad movie like the critics said. Those clowns needs to be checked as it's just hate towards the genre. The only major problem of Aquaman 2 was that it released in 2023 when there's not much patience or benevolence for average to just decent CBM stories and the familiarity we've come to predict from them. You have to be really great to elicit overwhelming positive reactions from audience and critics these days.

If it was released in 2019-22 this was easily a box office smash.
The legacy of the movie would have been better as the final curtain to the DCEU project but it would continue to be marred by it's box office perception.

My 2023 Top 10 Worst Flicks

2023 was supposed to be the year when Hollywood completely rebounded off the effects of the COVID pandemic slow down and we were supposed to be served some serious "heat" in terms of movies, but due to some unforseen circumstances, there were so many "gbà" movies, i had the displeasure of seeing, that i just had to make this list.

NB: This list is highly subjective as per my own personal view and the "worse" is highly contextualize. Some aren't "bad, bad", i just had high expectations and they were cruelly dashed.

10) Talk to Me (2023)

I was full of hope for this seeing that it was an A24 prod. With a not so fresh idea, the premise was actually good but the execution was terrible and they lost me, midway

9) The Flash (2023).
Worse time to be a superhero movie + clunky CGI + moot plot. The excessive fan service wasn't enough for it to warrant any kind of replay value. I saw it once and i never looked back.

8 Expend4bles (2023).
I saw the need for part 1, but how the hell the they stretch this to 2,3 and let alone 4??. They should retire the franchise and the actors too should hang it for good. A truly terrible motion picture.

7) Fast X (2023).
The allure of "Family" couldn't save this. Again another franchise that should be put out of service for good as this hasn't being a proper flick since Fast 5. I will be there for Fast 11 tho, can't let my man, Dom, go hungry 😏.

6) Heart of Stone (2023).
Nothing much to say about this classic dumpster fire. It was just bad from, script to delivery. You want to do Mission Impossible on a budget and Gal Gadot is who you call? Funny enough, her pretty tax was the only little light about the flick so i will be seated for her next flick 👀.

5) 65 (2023). Adam driver is too talented for the kind of bottom barrel flicks he is involved in, i mean, he has had more misses than hits. If your expectations are low, than this was just another regular sci fi flick but annoyingly, my expectations were high af!

4) Freelance (2023). 🤦🏾‍♂️🤦🏾‍♂️...If you don't see John Cena in a "Peacemaker" costume, just run. terrible terrible film 😭😭.

3) Ghosted (2023). Post MCU Chris Evans is a sore for a fine sight 😭. This movie was totally crap. him and his co-lead Ana de Amas seemed as if they weren't on the same set, absolutely zero chemistry and a total epic fail of a flick.

2) Knights of Zodiac (2023). If you jam this flick anywhere, just run 😭😭. A near perfect 0/10 flick. Truly "remarkable".

1) Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (2023). Superhero Fatigue aside. This movie was supposed to herald the next Avenger sequence and have like a "Thanos" like intro for the next MCU main villain but man it was a total misfire, the plot was haphazard, worse still the CGI was so cringe that i had to question if they were serious or i was seeing a parody. I was almost moved to tears, and people around me thought i was feeling the movie on another level not knowing it was my hard earned funds i had just wasted on this crap that had my eyes watery 😭. The absolute worst flick i saw in 2023.

I have a strong feeling if i have waited till next week at least to make this list, "The Marvel" would have made the cut. MCU serving burnt food with reckless abandon and they need to be stopped 😭😭.

Now whilst 2023 served up many stinkers, with some not even making this list, They were also some gems, and i do hope i am able to curate that list too.

But for now, on to 2024 and hoping there are more bangers than gbá bottom barrel flicks that exist only to waste our time, data and hard earned funds...🍻🥂
