Yet the country will not feel the impact of just 1 out of 379!
Smh. It shows that you are never in the circle of these high performing excellent people. They are rare so I am not surprised that you don't know them.

One of them is Temi Popoola who got appointed as the GMD, NGX Plc with effect from Jan 1, 2024.

He joined NGX in 2021 and within 2 years became the Group Managing Director and CEO!

Temi Popoola finished with First Class ,Chemical Engineering, University of Lagos (UNILAG)

I am not surprised.

To get admission into unilag, you must do very well in Jamb and post-jamb. Most times, more than 20% of Jamb candidates choose unilag as there 1st choice only for the best among the lots to get the admission to high rated courses like Engr, CS, Law and others.

Check the caliber of students that usually make unilag list. Folks from Queens College, Kings College, high worth private schools like Corona and Federal Govt Colleges. Why won't they churn out real 1st class. Let's give it to the guys who deserve their worth jare.

FUTA does not exist in 1980. It was established more than 25 years after UNILAG.

True. I recall my friend who entered his university with JAMB score of 224 telling me that he would have topped his equivalent department in UNILAG because "UNILAG is easy". He conveniently forgot that UNILAG cut-off for that same department was 272, when reminded he said "E no matter". His school's cutoff for that department was 207. He would have been in the same class with his ogas at the top grin grin

“Most exciting is that 31 of the Master’s degree graduates are international students, all with MSc degrees, who were supported by World Bank grant through the African Centre of Excellence for Drug Research, Herbal Medicine Development and Regulatory Science (ACEDHERS).

Ogunsola said there were 39 distinctions from the Faculties of Pharmacy, Basic Medical Sciences and Clinical Sciences,

“Of the total number of distinctions posted, 24 of them were from the Faculty of Pharmacy.

UNILAG to the world! The University of First Choice and the Nation's Pride. This is the benefit of having a very high admission standard and rigorous merit-driven system in UNILAG.
That graduating Faculty of Pharmacy set must be a very hot set of Geniuses! 24 distinctions!Wow!! shocked

Congratulations to all the graduands and the 3 Distinguished Honorary doctorate awardees.

Why do I need to do engineering before I say something that is fact-based? It is easier to graduate with a first class in numerical courses than non-numerical courses. That is an undisputed fact anywhere in the world. There is a Nairaland thread of OAU's BGS from the faculty of engineering, all had high CGPAs which made them the highest.

Ayodele Dada (Psychology) of Unilag and the Law graduate from LASU are the only 5.0 graduates who did not do numerical courses in Nigeria. The girl from Covenant University did Computer Science, which is akin to mathematics.

LOL!

No first class grad, especially from numerical programs, who has access to information, acts on them and is diligent is unemployed. I am ready to die on this hill!

You don't earn anything. A physicist can work in a FAANG company. Why do I need to know your academic program and where you work? I don't care how much you earn. I honestly do not. Your salary has no basis in this conversation.
Thanks 👍 Thanks for that I told someone the same thing it's easier to bag First class in Physics, Mathematics Engineering than even in English because it's usually based on Precision and accuracy....But once it involves cognitive thinking you would be evaluated based on your Creatively and Cognitive skills

He was right. LASU is more rigorous than Unilag. Likewise FUTA, they're very much rigorous than Unilag
Re: UNILAG To Graduate 379 First Class Students At 54th Convocation by Shikena(m): 12:33am On Jan 11
Curious here too grin

Let's even ignore ranking for a moment.

Gerrard59:

So why is Unilag ranked higher than both schools? Rigorous according to what parameter? Who ranked this rigorousness?
Re: UNILAG To Graduate 379 First Class Students At 54th Convocation by Jeboy(m): 12:33am On Jan 11
While creative and cognitive skills courses are subject to the lecturer's discretion when scoring students, numerical courses require precision and accuracy which most brilliant/smart student could easily score 99.9% or even 100%. So, getting an A that starts from 70% won't be a thing for such geniuses and smart dudes.

Bullcrap. You are analyzing universities like secondary schools. Clearly define your scope first, not what your brother and cousin told you about their respective individual courses in school. Besides, UNILAG lecturers have been teaching in LASU from time immemorial across most of their departments, maybe you need to sound out a few of them.

Scholace:
My brother finished from Unilag, while my cousin finished from LASU. I am not talking about ranking. They both confirmed how LASU is more academy rigid than Unilag. Unilag used OBJ for her year 1&2 undergrad exam, while LASU uses German and Theory from year 1 till final year. I understand Unilag has condusive learning environment unlike LASU, that may also be a favourable factor

And for the employment aspect, that was in the past. It's not applicable anymore. Government or private firm will not employ you simply because you have Unilag on your certificate.
Re: UNILAG To Graduate 379 First Class Students At 54th Convocation by Shikena(m): 1:03am On Jan 11
Same stories with UNILAG engineering teachers including the legendary Akoka Giant Prof Ayodele Awojobi, Prof Alfred Susu, Prof Alaba Akinsete, Professor Francis Ayodele Ogunye, Prof Francis Fajemirokun, Prof N. A. Abdul. Prof Sambo Balogun, Prof Salau, Prof Vincent Olunloyo, Prof Oye Ibidapo-Obe, Prof Francis Olatunji, Prof Akin Loto, Prof Chigozie Nwilo among several others across other faculties who are all products of top universities abroad at one level or the other. If not for Lagos location, Nigeria would have messed them up if they were stationed in other universities.

Raskimonojendor:

That's because most engineering grads leave the country for masters abroad. They mostly will not come back due to higher standard of living in those countries.

However, alot of my now retired professors at OAU finished from Urbana, Stanford, Yale e.t.c in the 1960s -1970s. They taught us in the early 2000s with outdated books and text as well. That means the Nigerian corruption also kills talent.

A particular course, Engineering physics was set up in the era of Obasanjo in the late 1970, so that the graduates from the program can help build Nigerian nuclear power stations. Some of the graduate from that program ended up being lecturers at OAU and fell to the Nigerian system as well. One of the Drs then use to do rentals as side hustle to add up to his salary. If the guy had japa-ed back in the 1980s after graduation, his case might have been different, and he could have been rubbing shoulders with the likes of Barth Nnaji or Kunle Olotokun.

I have come across only one first class in Mass Communication and English (I am not too sure). But I am sure of Mass Communication, and she finished from Unilag. Me wey bin dey read Punch First Class Champions is what someone is telling me otherwise. Only Ayo and the Muslimah girl in Law had 5.0 in non-numerical courses. Any bright student can attain 5.0 in numerical courses.

Bro. You are joking. Check out those who go for Engineering. They are usually the smartest ones. Yet, not all of them makes 1st class. So what are you saying? Most of them who didn't make that first-class in Engineering will likely find it easy making a first class in other science courses.
It is easier to get first-class in Engineering and Science courses unlike social sciences and humanities

To get first class now is very easy

ChatGPT has taken over the internet. Very smart and concise way to answer examination questions and cheat. In our time, all we know is from the number of books you have read or regurgitate.. These days even without been conversant with any topic in any discipline you can answer questions correctly using chatGPT.. I won't believe this rubbish

How someone will graduate with 5.0 CGPA in a Nigerian university baffles me. Somehow it feels fake.

I don't really believe it.

Before you come for me, I graduated with 1st class and was the top of my class in Engineering as well.

And it's always from this particular school. I feel they just inflate their students result.

How can you have 5.0 CGPA after Technical Drawing, Thermodynamics, Fluid mechanics, ODE, Engineering Maths, Statics, Dynamics etc, and none of them gave you a B? Haba

That 5.0CGPA in Engineering is fake.

In 2019, the best graduating law school student was a 2:1 student from Babcock. Now, where were the Inflated First-class students from Unilag that year?

Did Babcock have any first-class student that same year too?

I agree with you on the 5.0 from engineering department.... especially when s/her did engine drawings

At the quoted....there are many best WEAC students that couldn't pass their Jambs and Post UTME........
