Pls pardon all errors.

I will try and keep this short, I have an aunty who works with one of the FG parastatals but she is contemplating on resigning. Reasons being:
1) the transport fare takes more than 50% of her monthly earnings as the distance between her house and workplace is far (ikorodu to CMS)
2) due to the distance she does not have the time to take care of her children as she has to leave very early and return late at night.

Ever since she told me, I tried to convince her to just hold on as i strongly believe that the minimum payment will be reviewed soon which will address the issue of salary but she stated that my solution does not address the other challenge of negligence of children.

Please i need advice on what she can do to get to work faster amd return home faster

Also, the husband is a business man that owns a business in the CMS area, I will be in the comments.

She should use the ferry, this will immediately solve both problems. She can purchase a life jacket for personal use.

A bird in hand ✋ is far better than 10 in the wild evil forest

We are not in the western where a person can conveniently hold 3 jobs simultaneously & still happily return home to take care of their kids at the end of the day without knowing anybody.

Since this is a Federal job and not private, instead of outright resignation, ask her to take leave of absence without pay for 6months, or one year or even 2 years. This will give her an opportunity to test the waters. She can always go back to work if it's not favourable.

If you're living far away from your work place, now is the time to consider living in the city. Transportation cost is competing with house rent. She should move with her family

Thank you for the response.
Currently all the husband's and wife's siblings are working in different states and all efforts to convince either of the two grandmothers to help out has failed.

You already have the solution. Husband and wife work in CMS area. So, relocating the entire family to CMS area shouldn't be a problem.

One other solution is to buy an electric motorcycle, which hubby and wifey can ride to CMS every morning and at no cost, except charging issue, which can be resolved by charging the bike at their working places.

Your aunty seems to be someone not from the streets. She wants to leave one of the most secured and versatile jobs in the continent.

There are series of runs to engage in anything Government Jobs. Just tell her to socialize with the rest of the workers and they will carry her along.

Most Nigerian Government Workers don't touch or depend on their salaries. That's why you will see them keep working even if they are not paid one year salary arrears.

She should look for another work close to the house bcuz of the children and good health is very important wakening up early to travel all the way to CMS not good for health
Re: My Aunty Wants To Quit Her Job by Barteze: 5:19pm On Jan 10
She can try using boat (ferry) they have jetty somewhere around marina (ebutero) LAGS has done a lot in water transportation it will cut down travel time drastically for her. If she has never used boat before it will not be easy at first but with time she will enjoy it I can assure you it happened to me.
Alternatively she should relocate to somewhere close to her workplace.
Re: My Aunty Wants To Quit Her Job by olaodun: 5:19pm On Jan 10
Please advise her not to resign , let her and her husband get a single room at either yaba Ebute Meta and areas close to CMS and go home on weekend how ever their school children shoulbe be where they are living at lagos Island govement work is reliable and should can plan for biz and if the biz is thriving she can resign after 10 entitled to both grauity and pension i think 10 years in service
Re: My Aunty Wants To Quit Her Job by Emmizay12(m): 5:29pm On Jan 10
Nigerians are outrightly messed up and overly emotional about shit and piss jobs

Y'all hold onto dead end jobs with so much strength no wonder our country is worse than a pigs pen, any small post about job, everybody will be telling you to hold on and continue enduring rubbish

I advise her to quit her job if it takes away time from her family, see except you are already a useless person you won't be scared of quitting so that the lack of a job will expose the true nature of your uselessness

Jobs yakpa for this country!!!! Successful businesses raking in billions of naira yearly, but how would you know when you prefer to curse your leaders instead of take action

Majority of Nigerians are too lazy and pessimistic about their lives, from universities giving you rubbish and you accept to employers giving you rubbish you still accept, politicians will still give you rubbish and you will accept why then will life itself not throw rubbish at you?

I used to work in a bank and if you see the kind of loans that fed govt workers have sinked themselves in, people who have 15yrs in sevice with nothing to show....

Omo Una too the encourage nonsense for this country

Since both husband and wife have their means of livelihood centred around CMS area, they should consider getting an apartment around Obalende, Yaba/Oyingbo or even Iyana Oworo axis. They can rent out their house in Ikorodu or keep it locked and be visiting from time to time. This is the worst of times to be unemployed in this country.

Dominique you still dey around? I think say dem don sack you o grin

She should sit down with her husband and think of a way to relocate to Ijora,Ajegunle or Orile these places are very close to CMS and they can discuss to be going to Ikorodu on weekend with their children.

If she can afford to pay a room apartment around Bariga or shomolu

The go home on weekends, that will be fine
But depending on the ages of the children

If they are teenagers she can put them in boarding schools and then have time to face other things

If her husband can afford to run the home alone without her financial support, then she should go ahead and resign

If her income doesn't worth the stress of leaving home that early and distance

Then she will not be there for the children too

Then there is no need for her to keep the job

The button line now is, if she is not the bread winer and her husband can run the home without her support monetary term

Good luck to her life, after resignation
Re: My Aunty Wants To Quit Her Job by Shigobaba(m): 10:02am On Jan 11
Tell her to get an apartment around Surulere or Ebute metta.
Ikorodu to CMS is far, stressful,
Getting an apartment close to her place of work reduce stress, you will have time for your kids, you will get home on time, and she will look young and the transport fare will reduce drastically.

All these people telling them to move to CMS.I know you people have not being to CMS before to know that CMS is like city center mainly business district where I feel your aunt and her husband won't be able to pay for the accommodation which is hardly available.
Best bet is to find accommodation in any outskirts of CMS.
Is there no ferry from Ikorodu to CMS. If there is let your aunt go for switching class and she will over fear of water and let her but her personal life jacket she will be using daily when crossing from Ikorodu to CMS and back.
No hold up with ferry possible less that 30min
Re: My Aunty Wants To Quit Her Job by danzaki63: 1:36pm On Jan 11
except she is in an essential position or life saving work, like nurse or doctor, ask her to limit herself to work twice a week. tuesdays and thursdays. This will make her save money and be with her kids most of the time.

Don't be delusional.

If a man asking you to stay at home has the means to carry the family without you working, you don't have the leverage to be making such foolish demands.

He is the prize, you are easily replaceable, women are eagerly waiting to replace you and you will only decline in value to him over time. So be grateful he is giving you an opportunity!

Stop thinking you can win this battle of the genders against top men.

What nonsense are you reading?

This is how you people delude yourselves, destroy your lives and end up being bitter, old women looking to shame men, while the men are enjoying their lives with younger women.

Take this to the bank and NEVER spend it: The Top 20% of men are the prize!

There is nothing you can do about it. Your value starts declining early.

And if you are an African woman, rapidly! Because of our diet, suffering and lack of exercise.

Be grateful if a Top 20% of men give you a chance and select you.

Madam, it is called "Post Nut Clarity" process.

Trust me, for most women, after we nut, their appeal becomes vastly diminished.

Most women are not mentally sane, self-developed, considerate or add value to our lives for us to want to hang with them. We men prefer to hang with other men. We are just straight and need to bust a nut once in a while, hence the relevance of women in our lives.

Having senseless argument with a selfish and illogical being does not appeal to a sane, top man.

You are reading delusional rubbish to make you more delusional.

From now till eternity, WOMEN WILL DIE TO BE WANTED AND FOR COMPANIONSHIP!

They way you women try to create and believe delusional nonsense never ceases to amaze me.

Women cannot and are not mentally built to live life on their own. They are built to be insecure, irrational and relational beings, who consistently need validation and company!

Take that to the bank, save it and never spend it!
