The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment & Water Affairs should calm down and take things easy. This is peoples solely source of income and I believe there should be time frame to this.

Hmmmm.
This is not Good news for those big butts women that use take-away plates to steal party rice in owambe parties.

But Lagos state govt are not even serious. Instead of seeing opportunity in the threat situation, and create mediums thru which they can create wealth and job opportunities by recycling these take-away plastics wastes, they want to kill the industries that manufacture the products.
Our leaders are bereft of innovative ideas that will spur development.
Mumu govt with mumu decision.

If there is an opportunity to recycle them, why not setup the factory. When will Nigerians realize it's not the job of government to set up factory for everything.

If it's so easy, go and set it up.

No be only time frame.

It is because of thinking like this that Nigeria is where it is today.

So because some people are making money off plastics, some other people should bear the brunt of it abi? Abi, the livelihood of a few people is more important than the health of an entire city.

Abeg....

Rather than ban the sale, why not regulate and monitor the disposal of these packs... The ban won't stop plastics from being littered around the streets.... Humans drop them off there

Regulte and monitor? In the Nigeria? Seems you don't know the country you live in. If you don't come down hard on Nigerians no policy works. We have zero self regulating mechanisms in our brains. W are the most difficult people to manage.
Re: Lagos Govt bans sale, Use & distribution of take-away Packs, Single-use Plastics by Obviouslyblunt: 6:04pm On Jan 21
This thing is actually better than plastic , plastic takes literally 100 of years before a single one decays , and even then it doesn’t decompose completely it just gets smaller and smaller. Using this should be encouraged.

All those talking down on the ban, I am sure you are part of the bush illiterates that will just dump plastics anyhow. The other day I saw a woman, dressed up like a bank worker, step out of an AC Corolla with a sack full of plastic bottles and take away packs and empty the bag over a bridge into the canal, and I was like.....WTF?

People where even challenging her and she had the mouth to even talk back.

Na una type be that

When you have leaders without thinking caps.....I guess the word recycling is strange to them. they should also banned bottle water and ban the usage of PVC Materials as wrap for every commodities.....

So our government thinks it is smarter than the U.S govt? Even UAE are gradually phasing it out by introducing alternatives but 9ja everything is done abruptly! Anyways anything that amplifies the suffering of the people is always the main aim of the Nigerian governemnt so we need not be SHOCKED!

UAE that's phasing it out gradually, when you go there, is this how their gutters and canals are filled with the stuff?

Hard drugs is also some people major source of income does that mean it mustn't be ban ?

As long as the harm it is causing to the general population and environment is more than the good, then it deserve to be ban without any warning or time frame or what's the timeframe for ? so the dealers can have more time to dispose it and cause more pollution ?

Many people survive on dealing with so many illegal things like drugs, fake goods etc does that mean the government should let them continue causing damage and continue to tolerate it because it is some people source of income and they may not survive otherwise ? even Okada that has been banned in Lagos recently is a major source of income for a lot of people too.

Get him right. He said there should be a time frame

Don't know why it took the government this long to decide. It remains the main ingredient blocking the drains in the metropolis and getting them out of the way would help clear a lots of deficiencies in our environments. Good one to the LASG team. A greater LAGOS is surely rising.

GOD BLESS LAGOS STATE

EKO O NI BAJE O

Understand the context before painting the government blacks. The items you listed ain't affected as they're not single-use packs but recyclables. what the government banned is the foam-like packs often called styrofoams which often has no second value. Infact, the lots you mentioned are the alternatives and would continue to be in the market because they end up getting recycled to another like products.

Styrofoam and other single-use plastics in the State with immediate effect.

Oga read again...

With this logic then the good it is doing is way more than the harm

Regardless of political leanings this is a great move. However it will become an opportunity for some "tast force" touts and police to harass and extort citizens. No be Nigeria again?

Instead of government to reintroduce the Last Saturday of the month sanitation exercise. This is when you also punish neighborhoods that don’t dispose their waste properly. We can also go the Rwanda way. Where government provide paper bags for food and nothing like plastic bags or take away packs.

If people choose to behave like animals, then they will be treated like animals. You just carry plastics and throw in the rivers and in the gutter. Tommorow there is flood and you blame the government.

Some of the stuff made of Styrofoam are Cancerous and the ban is justified in the right time.

Let's make use of Banana leaf and enjoy our natural immunity.

Answer my question. How is it linked in terms of sanitation and flooding of streets with take away packs? Is the River connected to Lagos in anyway? I only know of the Ogun River.
