According to Reuters, Pope Francis in an interview with an Italian Newspaper La Stampa published on Monday, said Africans consider LGBT as bad for them from a cultural point of view.

Pope Francis has said he is confident critics of his decision to allow blessings for same-sex couples will eventually understand it, except for Africans who are "a special case."

Blessings were allowed last month in a document called Fiducia Supplicans (Supplicating Trust), which has caused widespread debate in the Catholic Church, with particularly strong resistance coming from African bishops.

"Those who protest vehemently belong to small ideological groups," Francis told Italian newspaper La Stampa, adding: "A special case are Africans: for them homosexuality is something 'bad' from a cultural point of view, they don't tolerate it."

"But in general, I trust that gradually everyone will be reassured by the spirit of the 'Fiducia Supplicans' declaration by the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith: it aims to include, not divide," the pope continued.

Already last week, Pope Francis appeared to acknowledge the pushback the document unleashed, especially in Africa, where bishops have effectively rejected it and where in some countries same-sex activity can lead to prison or even the death penalty.

He said that when the blessings are given, priests should "naturally take into account the context, the sensitivities, the places where one lives and the most appropriate ways to do it."

Speaking about his health, which has taken some knocks in recent years with hospitalisations, mobility problems and cancelled trips or events, the 87-year-old said, "There are some aches and pains but it's better now, I'm fine."

Erm, no. The Ancient Greeks and the Romans tolerated some form of homosexual behaviour (emphasis on some form, it clearly wasn't like the way the West tolerates it by the way). Other European tribes like the Germanics didn't.

I have been to 103 countries of the world and hold multiple citizenship, so i cannot afford to be hateful like you because it would be considered unacceptable by standards of civilized societies that I have an affinity with.

Problem with the Pope's comments is simple.

You cannot be a good christian and tolerate gay activity. It is prohibited in the bible. Now it does not mean that christians should set up theocracies and oppress gay people...since our kingdom is not of this workd, but it does not mean we should approve or support such acts.

Unfortunately the numbers of christians in europe are plummeting, and the riches that the Catholics rely on to run missions and charitable efforts in the third world depend a lot on revenue from European churches. By sounding tolerant, the pope may hope to attract more people in the developed world back to the church..

Even then, the decline of the European church continues. BY 2050, the average christian would be a thirdworlder.

No one has imposed homosexuality on you! Now since you are obviously more Catholic than the pope, tell me what you gain from prosecuting (persecuting) a minority group in our society.

The world is a representation of ideas. The idea of the modern world is equality. You see modern institutions trying to balance the gap between genders and minorities. The modern world is about leaving no room for oppression and giving everyone equal opportunity to achieve their goals and live life to the fullest.

Unfortunately, Africans struggle to think in terms of equality because slavery and oppression is fundamental to the average African culture.
