This is quite simple. Once you have rashes/swellings/itching on your body and you've eliminated infection via blood tests or the prescribed antibiotic does not work, then it is most probably an allergy. For allergies, there is only one solution. You must avoid the food (egg, milk, soya etc)/substance (e.g dust, grass, pollen) that you react to by careful consideration of your diet or exposure over the 3 days prior to an episode of the rash. Then start eliminating gradually by exposing yourself to one while avoiding the others, if no issue move to next until..... A faster way would be to do an allergen test. Note that this is not a common test in most Nigerian medical laboratories and the knowledge of Allergens among a lot of general practitioners (doctors) is not strong enough as some would be tempted to diagnose as infection due to the presentation. It took us 2 years despite visits to the hospital to realize my son was reacting to Soya (even if not consumed directly as the drink we all know-soya milk) but once it is present in some processed food as soya lecithin e.g milk or in soya flour in some bread, he will start having swellings on his body and itching.
To control the itching, cetirizine hydrochloride and loratadine works. I discovered one works better for my son than the other but it could be reversed for another person. There are different brands of the 2 drugs just like paracetamol has different brands - I don't want to mention any but ensure you buy the best. I'll most importantly recommend anyone that has allergy consults a good doctor/pharmacist (not shop pharmacist ooo, certified pharmacist) who will recommend dosage and duration. The itching should stop within 2 days while swellings may clear in one week. But note that both itching and swelling may persist if the person is continually exposed to the allergen. So first, you need to ensure you avoid the allergen by taking care what you eat and/or where you go as well as hygiene in your house-dust etc. We read the ingredient list of any processed food we want to buy for my son to consume. Our health is in our hands. Hope this info helps.

Merry Xmas to all nairalanders and wish u a prosperous new year. As regards the causes of Narun, it is mostly caused by too much of groundnut and okro in take. So it has been issues with many people especially people in their mid 20s but never the less, it has a cure only if you don't mind taking locally prepared herbs( Agbo & Agunmu). There's works effectively well but that you can't just stop using it after the itching and scratching stops, because it's in the blood. Regular use of the herbs makes it kills the virus to the very lowest level where you hardly feel it. I have nothing to hide about it, but it's what i do to earn a living and you don't expect me to make it for free as i also will buy materials in making the herbs. Contact me on my email: ogunfrayo@yahoo.com. Regards.

Its called 'inarun' the itching is like someone who has taken chloroquine injection and is reacting to it.Its in the blood system. It itches from within and not outside but u still have to scratch it.
That's d description I can give about it.

All the infornation above are very correct, go and buy ''agunmu narun'' take with palp and thank me later.
Anything you feel the scratch go and buy the agunmu inarun (powder )and use it with pap
Or you don't have to wait till you see the symptoms (scratching) before you use it, you can be taking it every four months.
There's also agbon inarun.

Good day my dear friends @Nairaland. This Narun of a thing or whatever it is called happened to me too. I want us to know that it is a satanic disease from the pit of hell. It is a blood disease. I have taken various kinds of herbs but it didn't go completely until I entered a Chastiy vow or covenant with the Almighty God.
If you are interested in taking the vow, kindly reach out to me on Whatsapp @ 0810-315-3004

Very good and great contributions. God's blessings upon you.

mandi:
If Narun is Nettle rash (hives), this is the info I found on the net. I hope it helps you.

What is nettle rash?

Nettle rash (also known as urticaria) is composed of reddish itchy weals or swellings in the skin similar to those resulting from contact with stinging nettle. Urtica is the Latin word for nettle.

The rash may vary in shape and size, can be very itchy and usually goes away within 24 hours. Nettle rash may occur repeatedly or as a single episode.

What causes nettle rash?

In about 90 per cent of cases there is no apparent cause. Sometimes, however, it is possible to identify the cause of the nettle rash and it appears to be most commonly due to an allergic reaction. Any of the following may trigger symptoms:

* a particular kind of food that causes an allergy. Eggs, nuts, strawberries and seafood are some of the common culprits.

* contact with pollen or fungal spores.

* medicines, most commonly, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics, and ACE-inhibitors.

* insect bites.

* infections, which may be caused by viruses, parasites or bacteria.

* contact with plants such as stinging nettles.

* contact with animals or creatures, such as stinging jellyfish.

* physical stimuli, such as feeling cold or warm, sunlight, water, sweating or pressure.

* substances, such as perfumes, preservatives, colourings, nickel or tar.

During an allergic reaction, a chemical called histamine is released by cells in the skin. Histamine makes the blood vessels dilate and become more permeable (leaky) so that fluid seeps out into the skin.

The rash itself is due to a local build up of an excessive amount of fluid in the skin (oedema). In severe cases this may be followed by swelling in other parts of the body as well.

If swelling occurs around the eyes, lips, tongue, larynx or hands it is called angioneurotic oedema.

What are the symptoms of nettle rash?

* Nettle rash usually starts out as an itchy spot on the skin.

* After a few minutes the weals develop into areas of reddish blisters of varying sizes.

* The rash usually lasts for about two to three hours and can then disappear only to return in a different place.

How do you differentiate between the different types of nettle rash?

Nettle rash is differentiated according to the cause of the rash and whether it has appeared suddenly or represents a chronic condition, such as attacks that last for more than a month.

Acute nettle rash

In cases of acute nettle rash, the attack begins within an hour of exposure to the allergen so it is often possible to work out what has caused it. Symptoms will appear every time the individual is exposed to that particular allergen.

There is usually no need to call the doctor for acute cases of nettle rash. The patient is able to find the cause of the rash and follow it up with home treatment. In more severe cases, however, it may be necessary to consult a doctor.

Children and young adults are particularly prone to repeated attacks of nettle rash.

Acute nettle rash can be divided into allergic and non-allergic (physical) nettle rash. Both types present immunological reactions.

Chronic nettle rash

Chronic cases are, by definition, more difficult to treat and often need long-term treatment. With chronic nettle rash, the rash may last for several weeks and it is advisable to contact your GP and if appropriate, get a referral to a skin specialist (dermatologist).

In about 90 per cent of cases, no cause can be found for the symptoms. This kind of nettle rash is called idiopathic urticaria. In the other 10 per cent of cases the substance (such as nickel or perfume) causing the allergy can be identified.

In extremely rare cases, urticaria may be related to a more serious underlying medical condition.

If a thorough examination shows that there is no apparent trigger for the chronic nettle rash, do not be alarmed.

Chronic nettle rash can be treated and in about half of all cases the rash disappears by itself within six months. However, sometimes the condition may be resistant to treatment and persist for years.

Hereditary angioneurotic oedema

This is an inherited condition that can cause nettle rash and swelling around the eyes, mouth and hands. It requires treatment by a specialist.

How does the doctor make a diagnosis?

Often it is enough to tell the doctor when, where and how you got the symptoms. Skin tests, a thorough examination and blood samples can be used to confirm the diagnosis.

Possible complications

* Disturbed sleep due to itch and irritation.

* Angioneurotic oedema (swollen mucous membranes of the larynx or bronchi), which may sometimes require immediate treatment.

Future prospects

* In acute cases, the rash usually disappears when the cause is avoided.

* If treatment is necessary different medicines are available that are effective at relieving the symptoms.

* New medicines have been developed recently and the prospects of successful treatment of hereditary angioneurotic oedema are good.

What medication can be used?

Antihistamines are the most commonly used group of medicines for nettle rash. They relieve itching, reduce nettle rash from a severe to a mild outbreak and make the rash disappear. They may be administered as tablets or injections. Antihistamines that cause drowsiness are useful at night if one has trouble sleeping.

In rare cases, treatment by a skin specialist with anti-allergy medicine may be necessary.

The treatment of hereditary angioneurotic oedema must be carried out by a specialist. Steroids are commonly used to treat this condition.
