A real-time footage of plants talking to each other has been captured on camera for the first time by a team of Japanese scientists from the Saitama University in Japan, ushering a groundbreaking milestone in plant communication.

This significant achievement, led by molecular biologist Masatsugu Toyota, published in the journal Nature Communications, is a leading breakthrough in Plant Communication.

It features a video showing a real-time footage of plants transmitting defense responses to their neighbours captured when the researchers observed plant communications as part of their studies to explore the subject in a more detailed manner.

Working with Masatsugu Toyota on his team were Yuri Aratani, a Ph.D. student, and Takuya Uemura, a postdoctoral researcher, amongst others.

The study shows an observation of undamaged plants responding to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by other plants experiencing mechanical damage or insect attacks.

The study shows an observation of undamaged plants responding to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted by other plants experiencing mechanical damage or insect attacks.

The Arabidopsis plants were genetically engineered to fluoresce green upon detecting calcium ions, which act as stress messengers.

Using a fluorescence microscope, the team could monitor the signals released by the undamaged plants after they received VOCs from the damaged leaves.

Plants do communicate with each other as soon as they sense danger in their neighbourhood. Scientists have knowledge of this phenomenon since the 1980s, and have identified at least 80 species who act in their defence in crisis situations.

Despite the knowledge of plant communication, it was still shrouded in mystery as to how exactly plants receive such danger signals from their neighbours until this recent study by Masatsugu Toyota and his team shedding lights on the exact communication pattern, as captured in the research video.

Lol. But it's true sha
If Bacteria use quorum sensing, a type of complex communication, to sense and respond to both members of their own species and members of other species it's obvious higher organisms like plants also communicate with one another

Imagine a plant crying out to the next one that he is being eaten by a caterpillar, the one receiving the message is gripped by fear and he tries some defence mechanism which doesn't work out, the caterpillar comes over and still deals with him. Both plants then cry together.

Nigerian scientists only know how to follow small university girls and fight FG in the name of ASUU

Every living thing dies communicate.

As long as it has all characteristics that makes up a living thing, they do communicate.

Micro organism do communicate with each other, i believe same goes to plant.

The fact that we still don't have the deep technology of plant sound waves and communication telepath doesn't mean they don't.

I believe science will be deep in years to come and knowledge will increase.

There was an era where they never believed iron will fly neither will iron float on water but after years of study and research we have aeroplanes, helicopter, jets ships and boats.

Men touched the sky even reached out for the heavens with the invent of space rockets.

Knowledge will ever be increasing.... Who knows the mystery that lies in d deep . Only in search of knowledge will it be revealed

Oh no! You don't need to doubt which country is progressing and which is not.

For the past 60 years Nigeria haas never made a major impact that would fabou the global world. You see Japan, Germany, China, US of A are developing and making global impact.

But unfortunately here we only shout emí lol kàn, how $1 is about to turn NGN2000. If we continue like this we may never produce anything tangible that would favor the global race.

Smh!

shocked

This proves that SuperOnyi is not really insane like people would stupidly assume — I have always maintained that every living thing on Earth has life and interacts with each other in ways we cannot understand.

This is why we see how natural plants like Igbó can transport you deep into the realm of a thousand thoughts.

It is also sad that if these scientists were in Nigeria, they would be taken to the SCOAN just like they almost did to me when I ate a food decorated with igbó leaves.
