A recent survey by the Africa Polling Institute indicated that 69 per cent of Nigerians planned to relocate if given the opportunity.

And our successive leaders are not ashamed of themselves? We're not at war, no natural disasters, abundant population and natural resources, yet the country looks nothing different from a country that has been in civil war for two decades

This is one of the best advice I must definitely agreed with that could stem the the tides of the increase in the exchange rate. You need to forward this to the clueless CBN governor page or BAT verified twitter page as they are both clueless and directionless on how to arrest the situation. Thumbs up for this great input.

Lie? How can it be lie when you have eyes or, are you blind?
To compound issues, the governments of the UK and Canada (two of Nigerians’ favourite destinations) had rolled out new relocation policies, increased visa, immigration health surcharge, and language exam fees.

This directly impacts the cost of immigration for Nigerians who need to pay those fees as part of their application process. For the second time in months, the British Council in Nigeria announced an increase in the fee for its English Language Testing System examinations by 29 per cent in January.

Both the UK and Canada are currently reviewing immigration policies. The UK, for instance, had banned foreign students from bringing in dependents via the study visa route. Canada also recently announced the cost-of-living financial requirement for study permit applicants for international students, to $20,000 from $10,000 starting from January 1.

Why do we even trade dollars in the streets like we trade beans?

Foreign exchange is a security document and the flow must be controlled to avoid it being used to launder money.

In Nigeria, the poor spends naira and rich men spend dollars. Politicians mostly spend dollars. By the dollars going high, it affects all of us because we are an import-based nation.

How do we stem the tide?

Every importer who wants to import should approach the banks who'd give them letters of credit, collect naira and pay the seller in forex through their correspondent bank. The practice of putting dollars in the hands of people who claim to want to import must stop.

If anyone is travelling, he must approach a bank to get BTA and he must be receipted. At the airport, he must present the receipt to customs and evidence of the cash. If he doesn't have the cash, he must be arrested, tried and jailed. Wicked people use travellers to buy BTA at government rates and resell to the black market. If this practice is not functional, give them pre-loaded debit cards by going into partnership with companies like Travelex and Transferwise or Revolut or Remitly and pay them directly so that beneficiaries can collect their cash when they get to the countries of destination.

Also the practice of CBN chiefs selling dollars directly to Nigerians to resell at exorbitant rates must stop. If you are within Nigeria, you have no business handling dollars.

Then all banks must stop the practice of opening domiciliary accounts for Nigerians in Nigeria. They can sell debit cards in naira and charge the prevailing exchange rate for international transactions like e-commerce. This used to be the practice. I wonder who stopped it.

Then the government must look into the mining sector from exploration to extraction, refining and export of minerals like lithium, gold, tin, steel, coal, phosphate and gas. The Chinese must be prevented from mining practices of our minerals and Rosewood trees. Minerals are security assets and must be protected the way we protect our private parts. Foreigners must not be allowed in for now, especially with the way oil exploration has failed our people when handled by foreign companies. You can employ foreigners to train your own people but do not allow them bring their expertise and funds to extract a security asset. They'd never use it to your advantage.

I support the hike in dollar rate. I also applaud the scarcity of dollars. It should be scarce. Only government should have it and those who absolutely need it for business outside the country. If you are within the country, USE NAIRA.

God bless you, the just yesteday that idea struck my mind in patches and i was trying to put it into perspective, the practice of putting Dollar into puts hands as being over abused already, @ solutions you've said it all

Most of those who have access to official rate connive with the bank to over-estimate there quota, were they need $20 they claim its $100, that $80 difference is diverted to black market for yeast profit

God bless you, to add to it, no business entity trading in Nigeria, selling to the public should quote price of commodity in any other currency, except Naira.
If you are hosting an event outside Nigeria as a Nigerian, you can use Nigeria as a target market, this is specifically to target the entertainment industry, I wonder why thousands of people will go outside Nigeria to go and watch a show hosted by a Nigerian living in Nigeria

The joy is that our policy makers are here to read and feel our pulse.

In China, once anyone brings luxury items, they are taxed at the airport. They remove the labels before entering their country. If anyone carries his party outside Nigeria, use tax to collect government share once they arrive at the airport. Find a name to call the tax.

As for entertainment, going outside the country on tour is not a bad idea. Nigerian artists can use the audience to bring such shows to Nigeria. Why can't we have month-long music festival in Nigeria like is done in Europe? You'd be shocked that people from Brazil, Cuba, Europe and Caribbean would pay to come. The way these people worship some of our music stars, many of us no send them like that. Many of them are in search of an identity and with the way Nigerians party, they'd have the experience of their lives and keep coming.

I really wish the minister of arts, culture and creative economy understands this.

Giving people dollars has never made sense to me. Since our people abuse it, make it scarce. You are travelling outside the country? I'd send the money to Travelex and give you a code. Use the code to collect your BTA at ay Travelex kiosk when you get to where you are going.

You are right.
On the entertainment industry, I don't have issues with going on tour, I know it's to project the Nigerian culture, but what I have issues with is making Nigerians back home here the target audience instead of those in the country they want to have the tour
