Nigeria have participated in 19 AFCON tournaments and have reached the semi-finals 16 times.

To be very, very honest. That is underperformance from us. 16 Semis, 7 finals but just 3 AFCON titles to show for it.

I know it’s football and no be for mouth but for every 3 semi final appearances, there should be a title to show for it. Naija should be on at least 5 AFCON titles.

My prayer is this:

1. The boys win this title
2. We use the title win to build a dynasty akin to Egypt 06-10 and carry that energy to the WC

We shouldn’t do like in 2013 when we won the AFCON then didn’t qualify for the next two tournaments.

Many of our key players are still relatively young and have stable careers in top leagues. They aren’t like the journeymen of prior SE teams.

If you win this AFCON, you have all the ingredients to go on to challenge for the 2025 AFCON as well and you’ll have a squad with the experience of winning a major tournament.

The likes of Ndidi still dey, Boniface is there. Opportunity for Orban, Tella, Tosin to be integrated as well.

We just have to win this title and build on from there.

i saw that goal and i realized only lookman could have scored that goal with his weak foot. Neither osimhen nor simon is capable of that masterclass

I still feel some players or even the coach took bribe in this tournament.

I can’t explain Osaze’s failure to pass to Martins against Argentina when clear or Obasi’s disgraceful open net miss against Greece when the match was still 1-1.
Abi is it Yak's refusal to pass to Martins when clear against Korea? Or aiyegbeni’s open-net miss which remains impossible for any professional to achieve.

As for the werey lagerback,he sat there when Messi and no name Greek players where using Enyeama for target practice without making any adjustments. To add to matters he started the most useless defender ever to done a green shirt in a WC - Afolabi - at left back when Echiejile was available to play. That move cost us two goals against Korea in a game where we scored first only to draw 2-2... knowing fully well that a win likely puts into the next round.

I nor wan talk about Kaita.

Rabiu Afolabi 😭😭😭

Even Enyeama after his brilliance against Argentina was suddenly erratic in the next 2 games. 😅😅😅

there is nothing impossible about yak's miss. Have you seen misses from sterling, Werner, nunez etc? Choupo moting literally removed the ball from the goal line while trying to score in psg.

Nwabali just came out of nowhere and start 'balling' for us. That's kinda strange. He has become everybody's darling in that team.

But then putting two and two together, Enyeama said something about going to AFCON before the tourney starts. Could it be that Enyeama did alchemy of souls and swap body with Nwabali.

Just think...both even have the same head shape and usually shout at interval. Alchemy of souls?

A brace for Nathan Tella. If Musa get sense, he should retire after this AFcon especially if we win the trophy.

It is Nathan Tella time.

Lol for matching their AfCON trophy and not surpassing it. An AFCON trophy that they have last won in 1982. And we are just about equalling. Give the little country the flowers it deserve, I mean how could the likes of segun Odegbami, Christian Chukuwu, Steven Keshi, and JJ Okocha play so many years and still deliver only 3 AFCON for us. I feel we should easily be on 9 AFCON trophies by now.
Remember Abacha stopped us from going to defend our title in SA in 1996 due to his quarrel with Mandela and we were then banned subsequently in 1998 by CAF and this was supposed to be the golden generation. So you can't blame us too much. Blame Abacha, blame fvcking CAF.

Yes, let us wipe out Issa Hayatou and his thievery in the 2000's. We'll all pretend like we weren't robbed of 2 AFCONs.

And winning the AFCON when it was an 8-team tournament is a different vibe from winning when it was 16 and then 32-teams

The thing that man did is still paining me, That whenever we beat Cameroun, either in a friendly or competitive game, it gave me so much Joy,

that team was the worst super eagles team to ever play at world cup. Prior to that, they ve been wobbling and fumbling. First at the nations cup where they struggled to win a single match losing to eventual winner egypt and ghana. Lagerback came and NFF draw up a list containing out of form utaka and kanu, toothless aiyegbeni for him to perform miracle. Only player that came to the party were danny shittu, enyeama, osaze and kalu uche

The manner in which the matches were played and lost indeed are questionable.

I even had sleepless nights for this team..

I still cannitbbelieve it that Nigeria did not get out of such a weak group. Mhennn.

Some of us can genuinely say we told you so, now that we are in the Semis, however, this won't be possible without the opinion of those who criticize the team intellectually and really have genuine fear about our chances at this year's AFCON. Without those critics I do not think Paserio would have looked for Nwabali!

Intellectual criticism is good for the team! We must not lose that!

Blind following and unnecessary criticism is where we should draw the line!

Super Eagles all the way!!

Winning an 8-team AFCON means there’s more weight on the qualifying campaign. 8 team AFCON is essentially a starting the tournament at the QFs

Drop Zaidu and we will lose the speed and swift positional recovery of that LWB role. No one faster on the team than Zaidu on that left wing.

Offensively, he is suspect but his forays forward (overlaps), his defending, his underlaps, power and speedy recovery makes him key to this 343.

Icon4s:
Peseiro should not start Zaidu in the next game. That guy na wash

Those 2 Afcon MIA we did during abacha time dey pain. It was all ours for the taking and this is without an iota of respect to those that participated. Yes, it's that bad. I guess $20k compensation was okay then. But missing those two

We should be on 5 by now and 3 as at then which would have meant we would be in Egypt's haul by now.

Curtis, did you just tag Osimhen the most easily replaceable player in this Super Eagles 343 first XI?? Are you being serious?

Curtisaxel17:

I kept screaming "Osimhen don tire" at my viewing center sotey people come dey look me somehow. Lol.

Osimhen himself knew he gassed out around the 70-75th minutes and could barely carry himself around the pitch and yet he insisted on staying on and jeopardizing the team's attacking chances.

Even after he was stretchered off and the coach wanted to substitute him, Osimhen used his "big star power" to force the coach to let him back on.

This is very terrible behavior from Osimhen. He probably thinks of himself as the Messiah and main character of the team while in actual fact, he is the most easily replaceable player there. It's not like he has been banging in the goals anyways.

I feel very bad for Moffi and Iheanacho.

the team has improved tremendously compared to pre tournament. I still remember wishing the team shouldn't win the afcon so that jpes would go quickly just because of how bad we were. We had no wins in our last 3 matches, lost our final warm up match but now we have the best defense in the tournament, created the most big chances while playing good football on the way. This has been a wonderful tournament so far for Jpes and I hope he reconsiders staying.

We hope this doesn’t affect us in the semis
Imagine being 1 goal up and the opponent score in 85th minute because coach doesn’t bring in fresh legs early
Momentum is a powerful force and it could adversely affect us
The game against Cameroon was better than what we saw against Angola
Our players seemed tired in the second half
Not covering enough distance
They need to up their game in the semis
I think the semis would be very tough and draining

To be honest with u
Pasiero is very annoying. Why remove Oshimen put in Onauchu? Can Onauchu get you goals had it been Angola later scored and dragged that game to extra time?

The coach need to understand Musa, Moffi and Iheancho abilities most especially Musa with Afcon experience

Imagine the experience Ekong brings. This would've been missed had it been he didn't include Ekong in the team
