A good friend of mine told me that he wanted to sell his properties and japa to the UK, so I tried to actually advised him that selling your properties isn't worth it because you don't know the situation you're going to meet over there but he saw me as an enemy of progress. Fortunately for him, he got a buyer for his properties and left for the UK that same week we spoke. Guys, he called me this morning and told me how terrible things has been for him over there. This is somebody that is very comfortable in Nigeria, he owns a car, business, house. This person is now a cleaner over there in the UK. I really pity him so much. My advise to you guys is that no matter how hard things get in this country, japaing the wrong way isn't the solution, plan your waka well so that you'll not hear story that touches the heart. If you have similar stories, please comment below let's all learn!

I can't never discourage people from japa, what i'm saying is don't sell your things to japa because you don't know what the future holds over there. Make sure you do your due diligence, invest in properties especially landed properties. Thanks for your feedback and God bless you

This thread is apt.

The same way I have been encouraging my co-workers emigrating to the UK especially.

Don't sell off your houses because you want to Japa.
When shit hits the Fan, you can always have a house to come back to.

Now most of them are into care giving and not health care they were offering in Nigeria.
The honest truth is that they work more to earn enough to just get by as rent, transportation and utilities is gulping over 80% of their earnings.

Does this apply even after been in UK for over 5 years or more ?

Your friend just relocated and he is in the process of settling down. The cleaning job he is doing is temporarily and I can bet you he will not do that for so long.

And Please don't forget to update us on his progress by December this year grin

Op, for your mind, u expected that once ur friend got to the Uk, him go just become assistant king Charles or deputy Elon Musk cos I don't understand how u expect someone who just relocated probably via students visa to have made it or get a 'reputable' job in such a short time frame. Make una dey try get open mind na, abroad is just like someone moving from the village to lagos(urban area)to hustle, it takes time na, haba.

They would eventually find their footing, working less to earn more.....it is a process.

During my student days here in the UK, I did briefly work in a factory and had been paired with a Sri Lankan lady to work from the same table on some shifts and we did chat. From our chats, she is a medical doctor who came with her family through the student route, she being the student. Planned after finishing her Masters to sit for the PLAB tests etc but there we were doing minimum wage jobs, 20hrs a week and years later, we are both working in our qualified clinical roles and earning way higher.......it is a process.

Even if you lived in UK for 25 years, it doesn't change your innate nationality. You still have kith and kin in Nigeria to protect and care for your properties. Aren't you coming for holiday or something again?

Personally for me i think the United kingdom as a country is overrated.People with msc from universities in the UK are still doing care Jobs after more than 5 years of residing in the country. If u are not well grounded in the medicals and maybe engineering profession,
Na care Jobs and cleaner u go do for the rest of ur life in the UK.

Somebody that has more than one house and decided to sell one to fund traveling is not a bad choice to make. However,i can never use #40m to pay school fees in the UK,it's not worth it.

I am not sure your stats is correct.I have very close friends and relatives in the UK nobody ever uses 80% of their monthly income for utilities and transportation. The only scenario were 80% or more is used for expenses is if maybe the wife is not working and they have toddlers to care for.

It's a lie. If you leave your stuff, your family will sell it off behind your back. Literally sell everything if leaving. If not the vultures (your family) will do it. Trust me, it has happened to me.

Exactly! It's better to invest in Nigeria with that kind of money, most of this countries makes Africa look unliveable, trust me if you have money you will live like a king in Africa especially in Nigeria. Most people always argue because they have not traveled out of Nigeria and i understand, i was like that before. Thanks for your contribution

I will use that M40m and more, to pay school fees here in the UK for my field of study..... return on investment is massive.
