The Hoarding Propaganda Of The Government by jmoore(m): 10:03am On Feb 12
It is no longer hidden that the government is spreading hoarding propaganda to absolve themselves from the current economic hardship in Nigeria.

They blame hoarders for the high cost of dollars. They are now blaming hoarders for the high price of food.

Food is not scarce. It is now a crime to store foodstuff in a warehouse?
The last time I passed a food market in my area, no one was on the line waiting to be attended. Food is available but high price is the problem. Bread we bought 1,300 naira last week is now being sold for 1,500 naira.

Propaganda will not solve any problem.

There is food issues....all this is the result of not improving food production over the years...especially doing more things like expanding dry season farming, incentivising large scale farming and also improving transport links.

Subsitence farming cannot feed Nigeria as a whole. BY now, we should have large scale commercial farms across the nation..

Exactly.

The malams that used to push yams in wheelbarrows through my street are still doing the same, there are still stacks of bags of rice in the market, the supermarket where I buy groceries have their store filled with goods but the problem is the galloping inflation and price of goods.
So I was wondering too what they mean by hoarding.

Like Buhari like Tinubu, all they know about is give excuses and push blames to others, back then in the north,I use to buy bags of unpeeled Mellon (equsi) during the harvest season and store till the next planting season when I sold them at a higher price. Without those in that line of business, food availability would be low during the later part of the year.
Re: The Hoarding Propaganda Of The Government by kcprince: 10:44am On Feb 12
The most painful part is that they are sealing warehouses in Kano that stored processed food(pasta, sugar etc) . Something you can order from the factory and it will be delivered . It is not as if they hoarded egusi or palm oil or other farm produce. Maybe soon they will start attacking Coca-Cola depots for hoarding.

The problem is, once the revolution is over, the same issue remains.

Note that I am not here to discourage you.

But the problem with food in NIgeria is simple. Subsitence farming cannot feed a nation. Only having most of the farming done on large scale farms can do that.

Add fixing the roads, fixing railways, then we would see something.

agbado shut up. If you have the money to pay you will be supplied a trailer load of rice. Tinubu economic policy is the cause of all these things. What do we gain by floating the naira?

And who do you think my comment is about and directed at? Certainly not the PDP, or Obi.

You are too blind to see an APC critique.

The food problem is coming from the general insecurity in the country. You can't go to your farm if you're afraid for your life.

Stop beating around the bush

Yes, you are right, but even when security was OK back in the day, there was still food issues...

The problem is, government doesn't know how to incentivise increased food production. BY now most of our food production should be coming from large scale farms, with the surplus being exported.

Then there is the issue of transport of food to market...and storage of food. And the fact that cattle farming has to be modernised in NIgeria. Roaming around with cows is not the way forward.

Food issues cannot be zero! The question is to what degree? You can't equate food issues of lets say 50% with 35% coming behind subsistence farming and food issues of 80% with insecurity causing 60% of it.

In the former, you can industrilized as a govt policy quickly but in the case of insecurity arising from terrorism and kidnapping, how do you deal with that esp as its been going for over 10yrs! The viable solution is state police which the fg is running away from because the president wants to control all the armed forces

Well, I am not denying security isn't an issue, but even when we deal with that, we are

1. Not producing enough

2.Transporting food is a issue. A big issue. Have not seen a government deal with that since IBB's DFFRI back in the day. (DIsmantling DFFRI was a big mistake)

I know people don't agree with me, but subsistence farming cannot feed NIgeria, even when we have dealt with all the security issues.
Re: The Hoarding Propaganda Of The Government by ValarDoharis: 3:04pm On Feb 12
We have to deal with insecurity first else neither subsistence farming or commercial farming cannot adequately take place.

Thats the sine qua non

Thank God some sense has entered the land.

"Hoarding" is a symptom of a problem and not the problem itself.

The real problem is the fast depreciating Naira and attendant high inflation,
