Our Local Rice Offers Better Quality Than Imported Rice Since Time Immemorial.

Nigerians Like You Are Just Ignorant of This Fact.

All Local Rice Produced By Our Local Farmers Are Generally Patronized And Consumed Within 1 To 9 Months.

Hence; They Still Provide All The Necessary Nutrients To Us.

However; Many of The Imported Rice Conveyed To Nigeria Are Bags of Rice That Have Overstayed Their Storage Time of 10 Years in International Countries Where They Bring Them From.

So, Please - Be Guided.

Meanwhile; LIMITED Amount of Paddy Rice Is Available in 300 KG BAGS.

The problem with Africans we want customers to buy from us based on sentiments

If Nigerian rice are cheaper and better why won't Nigerians buy them

Do you even know what Nigerians look for in a rice? Do you even know what appeals to the Nigerian customers?

Did you take your local rice to market and you couldn't sell it?
If yes, state your location and you will be swamped with buyers.

Our Nigerian Rice is Quality Enough Already.

What is Needed is For The Nigerian Government To Support The Local Rice Farmers With Machineries Like:

Rice Destoners, and
Rice Sievers.

These will help Our Local Rice Farmers Have Easy Access To Clean Their Rice To Be Void of Stones.

Our Local Farmers Are Doing Well in Their Own Capacity.

The Right Question You Should Ask is:

When Will The Nigerian Government Make It A Priority To Equip Rice Farmers with Necessary Equipments so they can be able to Meet Up With The Required Standard Needed By Most People.

Nigerians prefer long grains, well polished rice with a slight golden appearance

If a local rice can appear like that, sale at a price cheaper than foreign rice, no body would buy foreign rice except maybe Basmati

There are not enough local rice in the market....demand outstrips local cultivation and processing.

Go to local processing mills in rice growing communities, rice traders have bought them off, while still paddy.

Even though not based in Nigeria, every year I see to it that I have grown and processed on my behalf at least 700kg of rice as rice is grown where I come from

That's Expensive.

And This Presents A Business Opportunity For Those Who Can Take Advantage of It in Lagos Then:

1 Bushel of Local Rice = 25 KG

2 Bushel of Local Rice = 50 KG

We Currently Sell Local Rice @ 53,000 Naira For 2 Bushels of Rice.

You Can Waybill To Lagos For 5,000 Naira Per Bag; And Sell @ 62,000 Naira.

This will give 8,000 Naira Difference.

Wise Rice Merchants Can Take Advantage of This Financial Information.

Your question doesn't even exist in the first place, because more than 99% of rice in the Nigerian market right now is Nigerian rice. Your question should be: Why are our rice farmers trying to kill Nigerians through acute hunger occasioned by their exorbitant pricing??

For Sure, We Have Surplus of Rice That Are Long Grains.

The Government Recently Supplied The Local Farmers with Long Grain Paddy Rice Called "Canada".

The Issue is That it would take Willing And Wise Investors To Get Destoners And Polishing Machines To Clean Up And Polish The Rice.

Some Wise Nigerian Investors are Already Stepping in Particularly in Abakaliki in Ebonyi State. However, We Need Investors To Also Spread Across To The Rural Regions of Cross River State To Invest in These Machineries.

You Are Quite Right With Your Analysis From Your Living in The UK.

You See; The Way Forward To This Issue is That We Need More Nigerians In Diaspora Like You To Invest in Farm Machineries Like Destoners And Polishers Particularly in Your Local Government Areas Where You Hail From.

This Will Go A Long Way In Empowering More People From Your Family And Friends.

That's How Life Should Play.

But You See The Problem:

We All Want To Put All The Loads on The CORRUPT GOVERNMENT of NIGERIA Which is Lame.

We Need To Step Up Our Agricultural Processing Game in This Country And Quit With The Mentality That We Cannot Trust or Empower Our Indigenous People.

I Stand For The Betterment of Every Nigerian Farmer!

I Am The Voice of The Nigerian Farmers That Cannot Come Online To Write Up Their Needs.

I Do Not Request For Your Investments.

I Only Implore You To Agriculturally Invest in Your Villages And (Local Government Areas).

This Way; We Will Surely Grow!

Kindly, Proof This.

As some who lost 5 million in rice farming in 2016

The issue with our rice is that we don't understand the rice farming

We farm for farming sake and just want to emotionally manipulate people to buy because it's Nigerian rice

1) Nigeria have rice farms instead of rice fields

Rice fields take time and more money to construct but yeild higher rice and came be farmed 3 times a year

2) the seeds we use are primitive seedlings, I searched for improved seeds from calabar to Ibadan to nassarawa it was difficult to see needed connection to get it

So this results in generally low yeild there by increasing your cost of production

Develop seeds, create farm fields specifically for rice

I can go on and on

I have written an article here how we can improve local rice production by allowing import ( yes but read it to understand it) we can raise 700 bn yearly that would improve the rice industry in 10 years Max and importation would naturally die

Are we not patronising local rice farmers or they are the one killing us?
A bag of local rice was less than 10k/bag then FGN closed the border, placed embargo on importation of foreign rice, gave billions to local rice farmers in the name of grants, inputs/seedlings, anchor-borrowers, CBN interventions, BoA interventions etc. Today, the same local rice they were selling @ 7k/50kg some few years back is being sold for above 60K/50kg bag.

I'll love to read your article on local rice farming so I can be informed with your strategic plan. Moreso, We can push this initiative in Our Forthcoming POVERTY ALLEVIATION REALITY TELEVISION SHOW SERIES (PARTSS) Where We Would Actively Be Giving Priorities To Farmers, Solar System Operators, Doctors, Teachers And Security Personalities.

As An Agricultural Journalist Who Relocated From Lagos To Yakurr LGA in Cross River State For over 3 Years Now; I can categorically tell you that you can only get the improved seeds that you need in the Grassroot Regions of Cross River State.

Calabar is A City with Minute Farming Activities.

Should You Need Improved Canada Long Grain seeds, I can get them for you.
