Although the Minister later deleted the tweet where she claimed no such agreement exists, it is noteworthy to question why she said it in the first place.

On what basis, on whose authority did she enter into such an agreement on behalf of Nigeria without consulting with the Attorney General and the Nigerian Bar Association? By signing that agreement, this inexperienced minister just undermined the entire Nigerian judiciary and undermined Nigeria. The painful part is that there is no reciprocal agreement to allow Nigerian lawyers practice in the UK.

Doris Anite, what are you doing? You have not done anything to foster trade among Nigerian states, enhance exports to African market and global markets. I am sorry, it seems Stella Okotete has more brains than you in understanding trade and exports.

Because of your inexperience and immaturity, you have committed Nigeria to something that embarrasses the entire country. To even think you are way older than Kemi Badenoch who played you like a badly beaten chicken drenched with ice water during harmattan.

In the US, you must pass the state bar exams before you can practice in that state if you hold the license in another state. Who the hell are you to waive licensing for UK lawyers to practice in Nigeria?

Please start looking for countries who need our yams, sesame seeds, cocoa beans, groundnut and fruits. Stop all these your brainless traveling that has not yielded anything positive and has certainly not exposed you as someone who knows what the hell she is doing.
Cry me a river, with all their rubbish judgment for decades this agreement is long over due...

Lubbish judiciary

Actually, there is a code/act for legal practitioners in Nigeria. To practice law in Nigeria, you must pass the Nigerian Bar exams and be called to bar. Doris Anite just waived that for UK lawyers.

The federal government need not consult the NBA before taking such a decision. They ought to amend the laws and NBA must have an input there.

No country will do what Doris Anite did yesterday.
She has done it, cry me a river, the judiciary has been useless to Nigerians after all so its time for them to be fed with the same spoon they have been feeding the citizens.

Good development that the NBA has taken up the fight to squarely oppose the proposed intrusion into our legal system by our erstwhile colonial master.

For me, they see us as a people who are gullible and can be fleeced at every given opportunity.

The quest to partake in the "gold rush" during election seasons is the enticement that is attracting these leeches. Why are they not signing such trades agreements with south Africa or Kenya?

As long as the deal doesn't automatically permits Nigeria trained lawyers the same unrestrained rights to practice law in the UK , then that agreement is equivalent to self immolation.

I'm not sure any charlatan garbed in a political cloak will advocate same in the health profession as foreign trained doctors may not understand the nuances of tropical diseases.
Which fight lol, they are day dreaming period.

Why is it that Nigerians are working in all sectors abroad but we always limits people from other nations working in some areas in Nigeria
So federal government must consult NDA before taking any decision that will benefit the masses.

How will this benefit the masses?

Just look at the criminal justice system in Nigeria 🇳🇬. Very very slow for the Common man to get justice.

The criminal justice system was meant to give fair hearing to both parties especially for the respondent,, and also to speed up trails in law courts and come to conclusions in 6months time.

But today the justice system move at a snail 🐌 speed even favouring the respondent to buy time against the plaintiff.

I think allowing the foreigners to practice is a welcome idea.

Everything to this government is always about making more money. Meanwhile, the masses are not seeing the impact of the money.

"I emphasised that we are not yet at a place for such an agreement and that even if are to enjoy reciprocity with the UK (which is not an acceptable position), the knowledge and skills gap is so wide that we cannot favourably compete with the lawyers from the UK."

How then do you intend to close the knowledge and skills gap if you are totally rejecting an avenue that would possibly allow our lawyers to work together with, and learn from, those who possess the requisite knowledge and skills?

sovereignty is tied around our strict control of our money, our laws our borders. Nothing that supports these functions must be addressed with kids gloves.

Who should be learning from whom as per Nigerian law?

If uk needs to traverse the intricacies of our court or legal system they should hire a Nigerian firm or lawyer, simple. You are suggesting a system that will make our lawyers employees of top UK firms in the future in their own country.

With our craze for everything forieign and names who will hire a competent local firm above a foreign firm with liscence to practice in country

This one was stupid and if in truth the AG was not consulted the initiator should be sacked and tried in court

As for saying the judiciary is useless to Nigerians; the judiciary is not useless to me. You can criticize some judges, but to run down the entire judiciary indicates you are myopic and have no love for country.

Will Nigeria lawyers be allowed to also practice in the UK?if no why should they be allowed to practice here and our own lawyers are not good enough to practice in their own country? which kain double standard be this one

you are a big fool, idiot and pde. Listen to what you are saying? Have you ever seen a Nigerian Lawyer practice anywhere in the uk, you mean Falana or keyamo can just go to UK to defend a case?
What is the impact of Uk relationship with Africa if not to steal our people and resources, You must be crazy for supporting this stupid move . What is the impact of uk in our oil sector, do you know they dominated our oil sector directly and indirectly? Why haven't we gained from it?yet you are lamenting that our refinery aren't working ? You think it will favour them?
Uk practicing law will mean one day, their lawyer will become CJN. The law will be proclaimed pro UK .
You better use your head ,ode.

Think wetin well ? If you know the millions doctors pay to get certified before practicing in the UK.

After learning about the yeye agreement earlier, this was my reaction:

From media reports, the deal won't benefit Nigeria in any way. British people just want to take, take and just keep taking.

British people are a bunch of bloody users and thieves! A country that isn't a major crude oil exporter but has one of the world's richest oil and gas company, Shell.
Are you talking about oil only? What about gold and other minerals, they have highest reserve for gold and minerals without and single gold mine, thanks to gold mines in Nigeria and Ghana.
They sent a Nigeria agent working for them to come and deceive the inexperienced minister and this one stupidly sold Nigerians out. Rubbish

They can't reject our health professionals, you know why? Because they really need them, the NHS is large and does not have enough man power to maintain it.
Statistics show that over 85 percent of health professionals in the UK are foreign trained.
